Someone mentioned Miles Davis......Try also his version of Concierto De Aranjuez, all 16 1/2 minutes of it.......There is also a great jazz guitar version out there. In something of the same theme, add Christo Redentor (Harvey Mandel on guitar or a couple other versions), stir in Ravel's Bolero, add Peace Piece (Bill Evans). I could think of several others to weave in if given a little time.

For best results, mix them all into a seamless whole of an hour or more with the sounds of rain or waves washing over the transitions.

If the goal is a long extended leisurely session, rather than a fast and hot time with the big loud beat, there is not a lot better.

Fast and hot. Long and slow.....Room for both......The latter is great for an intimate session on the proverbial "dark and stormy night:"

That would be Concierto by Jim Hall on CTI. Great album; I have it on CD and vinyl, which is fabulous. When Paul Desmond comes in on alto sax it is just incredible.

Disagree with almost everything posted here that I know, or listened to, but hey, if it works for you and your lady, hit it! I've been hearing guys say "Avalon" is great since the '80's, but it always seemed like pablum to me. The Larry Carlton & Jim Hall suggestions are where I'm coming from. It's all about putting some great tracks together on a disc or as I did back when I was 19, on a reel to reel tape.

Back when I was a sophomore in college, I grabbed an old Ampex reel to reel tape deck that my Dad wasn't using, and put about 2 hours of music on tape that I'd always play if I thought I had a chance with the girl I was with. I wish I still had it (recorded it in '77), but I remember some of the songs on it were; Jeff Becks' "Cause we've ended as Lovers", and "Diamond Dust" from Blow by Blow, and "Love is Green" from Wired. Wes Montgomerys' version of "Misty", "Blackberry Winter" by Keith Jarrett (the version with Piano/Bass/Drums), and anything my roommate and I could find that was jazzy, like Al Caiola, and even some of his Moms' albums, like Julie London ("Cry Me A River" was cool), but most of it was instrumental.

That tape worked so well with what were 18-20 year old girls back then, that one chick I brought back to my room, even gave me a look as soon as I put it on, as if to say "Shit, I'm gonna get laid, aren't I?" Ahhh, magical times. Other songs that fit really well with this are Santanas' "Europa", SRV's "Riviera Paradise", and if you can find some John Klemmer songs that don't have one of his trademark "saxophone farts" in it (a mood killer, because you'll both laugh), you're on your way.

Latin jazz is a great way to get things started if you can dance at all, (you're really just rubbing up against each other with that stuff, and they say that dancing is just f**king, standing up, anyway). You can, and should, even use vocal music for this. ANYTHING that Astrud Gilberto sang is a winner, as are some of the songs by Sergio Mendes. If you play "Mas Que Nada", "Summer Samba" (play these first, 'cause they're the fastest), Girl from Ipanema", "Corcovado", "Wave", "Desafinado" all in a row, and your girl isn't humping your leg, ditch the bitch, 'cause she's got no soul.

+1 on Concierto - one of my all-time favorites (as is really anything with Paul Desmond).

I think perhaps we guys are too overt in this regard. I think of Barry White, Al Green, Sade, etc., but when (after going on 22 years of marriage) I finally get my wife out on an actual date and I put on Barry or Al in the car, it generally gets met with rolling of the eyes. Jim Hall, on the other hand, isn't something she hears too often, adds an air of sophistication to the evening and isn't overtly horn-dog [did I just type that?]. IMO: no woman (even your wife) wants to be considered a fore-gone conclusion. The game is the thing, isn't it?

Any of the early Bossa Nova guys (Jobim, Gilberto), especially with sparce instrumentation, hold up really well. There are certain land mines that I've found over the years: Chick Corea's "Light as a Feather," which I would consider excellent and in the same vein, is utterly reprehensible to my spouse (it's the vocals). If she's a lady of the south, I'd add Patsy Cline to the list (no idea how that would play outside the south).

Velorush - you're all over this!

Jobim & Gilberto are responsible for getting more guys laid than Heidi Fleiss!
