Mini Rig!

That Paul is all kinds of killer.

Thanks! It used to belong to J Isham! Just added the Vibramate and Bigsby, which I highly recommend.

"Stage" fer me is "church gig", so it has to be small and mean.

Small pedalboard (small hardshell Gator thingy) with:

  • Ernie Ball Vol Jr
  • TU-2 Tuner
  • FullTone Choral Flange (rarely used - keep in case i go out of tune mid song and need to mask it...)
  • Boss DD-20 Giga-Delay (After reading Mitch's Echo thread - now i wanna Strymon El Capistan... :/ )
  • Timmy

Egnater Rebel 20 head -> Lopo 1x12

I could probably get away with just a tuner and the Timmy for a good boost for the solos (can't trust the sound guy to bring me up on time - he usually makes his way to the slider about the time i'm packing my stuff for the car...). I'm stuck with the delay, though, 'cause seems every song ends up being a tribute to the musical stylings of the edge...

I'm attempting a serious downsizing - from 2 amps (Vibrolux and Motion Sound) and a pedalboard with 10 pedals (in a big Anvil case) to a Champ XD and a Boss GT-3 (in a small keyboard case). I'll still have 2 or 3 guitars (my LP and assorted Hamers), but it goes from 4 trips to 2, and half the set up and tear down time.

I love the sound of the Vibrolux/Motion Sound/pedal array, but our 'it's-too-loud' drummer says 35 watts on 2 is too much. Weener. The XD makes the compromise much easier. And lighter. B)

My tattoo artist plays guitar as well and he's got FOUR of those Kustom heads and cabs. But he doesn't have an LP Access -- what a cool axe! (Well, all of yours are but I'm partial to LPs).

1963 Strat...

What...no Hubers any more???

Beat me to it. Maybe the Hubers are too precious to gig with so he takes some old Strat instead?

The Vintage Bug is a bitch...

And, though it is undoubtedly informative and entertaining to try every fine guitar in the world, eventually you're just going to end up at the Stratocaster.

Nice rig, but I like the fact you carry your own stock of booze to the gig !

P.S. Are you missing a string ?

a decade ago, it was:

two Soldano Sp-77 preamps, Boss rackmount multieffect, Mesa 50/50 poweramp, 2 Mesa 4x12s

the rig was far too big for the basement-level clubs in Seoul Korea. I downsized first to a Laney Chrome-O-Zone, then finally to just a Valvulator and a Pod XT Live.

Now back in the States, I'm expanding again. Valvulator is still my first plug-in point. One output goes to a Marshall 2x10 bass combo. The other to a SSL Rock Block, then into a Marshall 40w Haze 1x12 combo. This biamp setup is killer with my B12L bass. It's hard to describe the thunder of a 12 string bass running through both a bass amp and a guitar amp. It's huge. HUGE.

At church, it's an SWR Workingman 12, with volume set to about 1.5 (not a very loud church band). Tomorrow, I'm going to bring my MicroCube and biamp. Won't be loud, but it'll sound broad and expansive.

For guitar, I need to get an ABY box to switch off the bass amp feed. I thought about using it for cleans, but it's just not getting the sound I want (not surprisingly). I'll get around to running the XT Live as a multieffect in the effects loops of both combos, or I might pull out my old Boss rack unit. I thought I could live with guitar-cable-amp, but I really love effects too much.

I know, it looks that way.

For some reason you only see one of the G octave strings.

Carry my own stock of booze:  , no that was a gig at the Macari Vineyards.

Like Veatch, my 'stage' means church = me + keyboard + singer. Lately I've two situations going:

1. I review the song list the week before and determine a guitar would help most

Red Snapper > either the getto board with Nova Delay + Nova Modulator or

Red Snapper > Flashback Delay (surprisingly versatile)

> Reeves Custom 12PS with Celestion Alnico Blue [bliss]

2. I review the song list the week before and determine a bass would help most

Deluxe P Bass (active) > cable > PA

As the Bass is so simple, I generally am inclined to grab it and go. This week I played guitar (PunkAvenger's Special FM) for the first time in about two months and had a huge time - but it was weird that playing guitar felt weird (if that makes any sense at all).

We should start a thread on stuff we have on our amps.

I like Chris's "BUY ME" logo on the head, and "A BEER" on the cab. :)

I folded and grabbed an Axe-FX II when it was my turn. I had been running it thru the FX return until yesterday when I tried it on a cheap pair of powered 5.25" monitors. Holy Cow! Who knew something so small could sound so big and full. Long story short, I'm keeping the Axe and after a few weeks of "making sure I'm sure", some nice amps will be making their way to the FS board.

Yea I really dig mine, especially since I've been off my feet from surgery......can't wait to get back on stage with it because I got my MFC 101 the day before I got cut on so I'm really looking forward to using it live now that I have total control over it!

My drummer gave that sticker to me a few years ago, I could ask him were he got it but most times he can't remember what he ate last night so I'm pretty sure he can't tell me were he got it...lol

One or two (depending on venue) Mesa Boogie .50Cal+ heads ( both have been modded significantly to be louder)

Scott, when running both heads, how do you hook them up? Slave out from the first to FX loop return of second? Do you need to ground-lift one of the heads? Also, do you have both channel-switch pedals on the floor? Or do you use one amp only for volume boost?

Reason I ask is that it took me some time to figure out the ground-loop thing w/my two-amp/cab rig. The ISP Decimator has ground-lift buttons on the back which are a godsend. Additionally, using ground-lift adaptors (3-prong to 2) into the Furman power supply on all but one piece of my rig (Soldano head) seemed to help, as well.

Next move is to use nylon, 10-32 rack screws/washers on all the rack units to totally isolate the metal housings from the rack rails. One crisis at a time... <_<

BTW, I think the .50cals are some of the best Mesa amps produced to date. These were Mesa's first attempt to compete with Marshalls; very UN-Boogie like in that they were not so HiFi-sounding as Mark-series amps had a rawer sound with EL84s. You can make these amps sound FILTHY, unlike most of their other amps.
