81 Standard - Any Idea Of Value? (Now with eBay link)

I have a customer who's looking to trade in the guitar pictured below and I figured there's no place more knowledgeable about vintage Hamer's than you guys!

The bridge has been changed but I believe everything else is stock. Any idea of value?

Thanks!

Matt

If there is no 'fret buzz' and the guitar is tonally 'sound' - you have a buyer.

ME

Will be in Worcester on Sept. 22nd.

Oh, and 'dibs'!

I'm open to entertaining offers but that wasn't really the reason for my post. lol...

One of the coolest looking 4 digit Standards I've seen and surely THE best looking one I've ever seen with a Kahler. Just love the look of a bound neck w/ dots.

Is the binding on the headstock and body as white in person as it looks in the pics? The second to the last pic above shows the typical yellowing of the neck binding by the nut, but the headstock binding looks bright white with no yellowing. If all that binding is original it should all surely be yellowing a bit by now, unless all of it was buffed out.

Did you pull the pickups out and look at the backs? It would be good to post a close-up pic of the backs of both pickups as well as a close-up pic of the electronics and post the pot codes here as well to date them.

Please clarify what the serial # is also.

well,

multi black/white binding on body, headstock +

cream / ivroid binding on neck, fretboard...

Kahler...

graphtec nut...

Highly modified just by the pics.

Hey welcome, Matt!

How's my favorite Charvel, Jackson dealer doing?

Very cool guitar - a custom order, and the multi-ply binding is not very commonly seen. Damned shame about the Kahler installation, but that could be repaired, especially on a black finish. Looks like the nut and knobs (and Kahler) are the only non-original bits.

If it was straight with no mods and OHSC, it would easily be a $3.5k+ guitar, but the Kahler mod is a huge value killer. Still should be $2-$2.5k (or more, if the bidders line up) if I were guessing, but I'll wait for a couple other guys here (Peter, Serial, Andrew) to chime in.

Hard to tell, is the binding matching on headstock and body? The multi-ply is sure unusual for that date isn't it (asking the experts here) if not unique. Is it obviously original finish? That would be a beast of a job to refin and add multiply binding, so original would seem more likely. Chris' $2.5k seems pretty likely. Damn Kahlers.

Love the Kahler, and I'm sure the owner who added it loved it as well.

Weird that the body and HS binding are so white versus the neck binding, isn't it? Finish looks fantastic, is it possible a refin was done and the binding changed and added to the HS?

I've seen multi-ply body/headstock binding with single ply neck binding before. It could have been a way for the person ordering to save a couple hundred bucks! :D

Nice.

Price wise, it's a rare beast due to the binding but the Kahler mod knocks a big chunk off its possible value.

One of the chaps here (Darnell dgstandard) scored a 4 Digit which had a similar mod (but without the binding) maybe he'll let you know what he paid for his.

Can I have second dibs please.

The multi-ply binding was factory on this guitar according to the log books. On #0509 too.

I would remove that Kahler and those hideous white knobs so fast it would make your head spin!

Hope so, to have ruined that beauty so grievously, Just busting stones, SVL. Coulda been worse; coulda routed out for a Floyd and really f-ed that baby up.

Thanks for the welcome! I was hoping I'd run into a few guys I knew on here. :)
