kizanski Posted June 21, 2013 Posted June 21, 2013 Even the first prototype Improvs wouldn't have been under construction until around 2002, correct?
Steve Haynie Posted June 21, 2013 Posted June 21, 2013 An Improv or prototype was on display in 1998 or 1999 at one of the HFC events.
kizanski Posted June 21, 2013 Posted June 21, 2013 Jol displaying a prototype Improv at HFC6 (10/03/03). How many years were they working on these things before they were released?
Steve Haynie Posted June 21, 2013 Posted June 21, 2013 Look at the HFC 2 page and you will see this photo: That was 1999.
anotherfreak Posted June 21, 2013 Posted June 21, 2013 that pic got me interested in my Newport, and IIR it was built by somebody in their "spare" time. before they decided to make the Improv model
kizanski Posted June 21, 2013 Posted June 21, 2013 Look at the HFC 2 page and you will see this photo: That was 1999. Well, sonofabitch...
Northfield Posted June 21, 2013 Posted June 21, 2013 It was started in 1998. This is the first test one on the bench The first prototype
cynic Posted June 21, 2013 Posted June 21, 2013 Look at the HFC 2 page and you will see this photo: That was 1999. Well, sonofabitch... and I'm pretty sure it's 12:50
Northfield Posted June 21, 2013 Posted June 21, 2013 The first prototype was finished in June 1999. There was a second prototype in 2002 and the first production one came out in September 2003. There was almost no tooling to make them, so they had to be handmade.
kizanski Posted June 21, 2013 Posted June 21, 2013 Should have used the Strat neck. and I'm pretty sure it's 12:50 Hard to tell. I never understood why they made clocks with hands that were close to the same size.
Northfield Posted June 22, 2013 Posted June 22, 2013 This artist blew our minds away with her airbrushing.
murkat Posted June 22, 2013 Posted June 22, 2013 eh, I spy a knob hole orfice in a certain "spot"....edit to add, nice hoofs
Steve Haynie Posted June 23, 2013 Posted June 23, 2013 That would be a perfect body for someone doing the volume knob swells all the time in a solo. Think about the intro to Pat Travers' I La La La Love You.http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=D0e9vLi1ACQ
cmatthes Posted June 23, 2013 Posted June 23, 2013 Somebody liked our HFC award plaque (from the October, 1999 HFC event) enough to have this pic taken...
elduave Posted June 23, 2013 Posted June 23, 2013 Nice clip, Haynie. Saw PT many times in that era. Voice was hurtin' though!

Very cool, thanks as well. I have always admired the craftsmenship of the Hamers. And like Jol said I assumed it was a much bigger operation. I have a question for some of the guy's who worked there about the ivoroid binding. Do you remember who the supplier was, and did you have to let it cure before working with it? On other guitars with ivoroid binding they can run into problems with shrinking, I don't think I've seen that on Hamers.....? Just wondering, thanks!
