kizanski Posted July 19, 2014 Posted July 19, 2014 ...guitar hangers.I'll need about 25 of them for my "Man Loft."
The Shark Posted July 22, 2014 Posted July 22, 2014 You could do this Or even this Cool floating guitars! Now, we're talkin'! I'll display them all as if they're hanging from a strap. Simple innovation usually solves my biggest problems.
gorch Posted July 23, 2014 Posted July 23, 2014 You don't forget to clean your guitars frequently from dust, will ya? Guitars don't look as nice with settled dust, you know?

chromium Posted July 23, 2014 Posted July 23, 2014 I hope my post wasn't misleadingly scary. I only called the smaller design "older" as a distinction from the other - it's still a current offering. The Universal model came out later and accommodates wider necks (classical guitars, banjos, etc). I don't think there's anything to worry about with either design. I've had and used them both constantly for years without issue. Roger that- I've been using the earlier design hangers for about 10+ years, and haven't had any trouble with marring, discoloration, etc. That newer design would probably work better with something like the scroll bass in my pic below... that one always slid forward right against the retaining hooks. I used a tiny bunji cord to hold it back (barely visible here): A lot of nice options in this thread. I like the cabinet with case storage in the bottom. That would sure free up some closet space That ceiling-mount PRS kills me lol.
hamerhead Posted July 23, 2014 Posted July 23, 2014 I like the resting-on-the-body idea of this one. A less bulky design would help, but the shelves are a nice touch.
cynic Posted July 23, 2014 Posted July 23, 2014 Invite Brent and twenty four of his cronies over and line em up like this
kizanski Posted July 23, 2014 Author Posted July 23, 2014 Invite Brent and twenty four of his cronies over and line em up like this That would be answering the question, "What is the Heritage of guitar hangers," which is a question I would never ask.
RichRS6 Posted July 23, 2014 Posted July 23, 2014 You could do this Or even this Cool floating guitars! Hanging them from the ceiling like this is a fantastic idea. Much less dust gathering up there, less chance of the heat from the sun hitting them and it still leaves the walls free for all the other crap I already have hanging on there. Plus if I get one of these Mrs Rich may never notice it's there..............
Feynman Posted July 23, 2014 Posted July 23, 2014 That would be answering the question, "What is the Heritage of guitar hangers," which is a question I would never ask....because this response shouldn't be missed by anyone.
Bennyboy-UK Posted July 23, 2014 Posted July 23, 2014 That's how I spotted my knackered pink SS1 ... tucked away on the ceiling in a corner in World Guitars. It was hung up in there for about 6 months apparently without attracting any interest from the regular punters. Jeff the owner likes old shreddy Hamers - used to run Machinehead music in Hitchen and picked it up on a whim as it was something he wanted for himself to relive old times. Mine now though
kizanski Posted August 23, 2015 Author Posted August 23, 2015 Resurrecting this topic from last year because in a couple of weeks, I'll actually be hanging these bad boys on the walls. Ever since I saw The Kids Are Alright with John Entwistle strolling about his mansion (you all know the scene) playfully plucking the strings of all of his guitars hanging on the walls and railings, I thought "THAT's what I want!" https://youtu.be/nRCk7M3O2Es Well, the mansion has eluded me so far, but I have garnered a (dis)respectful guitar collection for a basement hack, and I vowed that they would be displayed in a similar fashion as The Ox's. So, this is my canvas. I had the contractor put plywood behind the sheetrock, so i don't have to worry about finding studs for the hangers. I figure I should be able to fit 4 guitars on that little area next to the door. Some finishing work has to be done before I start to hang the guitars (and I have about $400 in hangers to purchase), but hopefully I'll have something to show you all soon.
mrjamiam Posted August 23, 2015 Posted August 23, 2015 Nice space! I've never been comfortable with the idea of being able to see my gear from outside through the windows, though.
kizanski Posted August 23, 2015 Author Posted August 23, 2015 Nice space! I've never been comfortable with the idea of being able to see my gear from outside through the windows, though. It's the second floor. No one will see anything (except for the photos that I'm posting on the fucking Internet).
kizanski Posted September 26, 2015 Author Posted September 26, 2015 Call me a dweeb, but this is literally a dream come true! I'm physched and I don't care who knows it! Not 100% complete. The 3 Explorer-shaped guitars (and a 4th which is currently being heavily modified) will be going on the opposite wall (not pictured above. Here's a pretty cool Google Photos-generated panoramic created from two or three other photos I took with my cell phone.
mrjamiam Posted September 26, 2015 Posted September 26, 2015 Excellent! Now what is the amp room going to look like?
cynic Posted September 26, 2015 Posted September 26, 2015 The dweeb assumption is interesting. I'm planning to do this in my new house as well, but I do wonder what "outsiders" think when they see such a display. Personally, aside from boobs I've found little else I enjoy staring at as much as guitars.
Michael_B Posted September 27, 2015 Posted September 27, 2015 Damn, Kizanski, the place looks great. I'd love to have a room like that. The dweeb assumption is interesting. I'm planning to do this in my new house as well, but I do wonder what "outsiders" think when they see such a display.Personally, aside from boobs I've found little else I enjoy staring at as much as guitars. They won't understand, at all. I have three guitars and a bass hanging on the wall of my new place, and everyone that comes in comments, "that's a lot of guitars." If only they knew....But, now you've got me thinking about a wall of boobs.
mc2 Posted September 27, 2015 Posted September 27, 2015 Don't your strings go bad a lot faster hanging your guitars up in the open, as opposed to being in the cases?
kizanski Posted September 30, 2015 Author Posted September 30, 2015 Don't your strings go bad a lot faster hanging your guitars up in the open, as opposed to being in the cases? I never gave that much thought, but it's no matter. New strings are a good thing. Here's the "other wall." It'll make more sense when I get my Standard back from being HEL-ified at HEL Guitars. So, no more guitars on floor stands.
