soli'd Posted February 20, 2015 Posted February 20, 2015 Seeing some assembly pics in the other thread got me thinking, the final versions of the Shlabotnik pickups must be be complete or close to it- any updates from Josh or Mike on the results? Would love to hear some details as to magnets, etc... and whether there are options for covers to be attached or not, whether they're shiny nickel or raw (I'm guessing polished given the peek at the bridge/tailpiece hardware). Thanks in advance!
cmatthes Posted February 20, 2015 Posted February 20, 2015 All will be revealed shortly. Patience, Grasshopper...
soli'd Posted February 20, 2015 Author Posted February 20, 2015 hmmm... I've heard that before. And I fancy myself more of a cicada or locust variant.
edgar_allan_poe Posted February 22, 2015 Posted February 22, 2015 Joe is in the process of sourcing his magnets from areas around Chernobyl. He'll be back soon and the pickups will be out of this world.

I'd prefer the family jewels not fall off because of the mojo-infused (but HIGHLY RADIOACTIVE) pickups....

It involves a mixture of pig manure and dirt...of all things.
django49 Posted February 22, 2015 Posted February 22, 2015 ^^^^Great for those dirty leads when you need a little extra grunt.
hikarateboy Posted February 27, 2015 Posted February 27, 2015 Here's what I'd guess was happening in regard to the pickups If I were a guitar maker devoted to building a guitar dubbed the "Ultimate". I would contract a small pickup builder who not only has years of experience but is also a musician with an amazing ear and over the top regard for attention to detail, from somewhere no one expect like St. Peter MN, to create custom pickups utilizing all the right materials. I'd send this builder a mule that he could use as a test bed knowing that any pickups designed would need final tweaks in order to perfectly mate with the their final destination in an Ultimate. After I completed the first set of Ultimates, I'd send off the first guitar in the run, which of course I am going to keep as my personal guitar, to said pickup builder for the final step in the process; tuning the pickups response to the exact guitar in which it will reside.I'd expect that said builder would send his friend, who also ordered an ultimate and is close to process, texts like:"Alnico 2 in the bridge @ 8.8k is sounding pretty damn excellent""AL2 neck at 7.3-7.4ish is also sounding classic""Unoriented 5 is also working tho..."As the guitar builder I would be dying inside waiting for my guitar to return but knowing that no one knows what to do now better than my pickup builder. I would feel comfort in knowing that we were on the home stretch and that this process would produce a template for the perfect set of pickups for every Ultimate made. When that first Ultimate came home in a week or so I'd expect to open the case, as long as my body didn't disintegrate from the energy like those nazi's in Raiders of the Lost Ark when they opened the Arch of the Covenant, to see my guitar and enough pickups to complete all the Ultimates ready for them.I'd plug it in, play it, solid now in my knowing that it was the right thing to do. I'd force myself to put it away for at least a few more hours and get to work on the rest in the queue just as I'd been doing for the last 7 months. The end result would be a true modern classicBut hey, that's just me guessing,

Hypothetically speaking, of course.
Jakeboy Posted February 27, 2015 Posted February 27, 2015 ...and to think I thought your first post months ago about Schlabotniks made of unobtanium was satirical..... So.Excited.
Northfield Posted February 27, 2015 Posted February 27, 2015 Hey Ted, if you decide to become a psychic, I want to be one of your first customers. I do hope I don't disinegrate when it gets back here though.
veatch Posted March 1, 2015 Posted March 1, 2015 Missing a few screws there, Mike. Just like tightening lug nuts on a car. Got to alternate the screwage.
