Skynyrd Uncivil War: Has anyone seen this?

There are some families that fall apart. The same thing goes for rock and roll bands.

By the way, Artemus Pyle was a marine before he joined Lynyrd Skynyrd. It is hard to believe he would have "run away" from the crash to abandon everyone.

It's amazing what some money and the feeling of some sort of power will do to people. What a shame. Maybe Artimus, Ed King and Michael Anthony could start a band.

I'm sure Dave Grohl would have to be involved.

This is why I'm not a "fan" I may love the music but a full 80% of the people who made it are dumber than a box of rocks. That's not limited to LS

I always thought Ed King was the best player and songwriter of the 3 guitarists.

Never listened to them after he left...

I concur, but then Steve Gaines entered the picture in mid-'76. To me, he filled Ed's role with elegant sufficiency....and if I recall some useless trivia correctly, both Ed and Steve were born on the same day.

I've never seen them live other than on TV. Getting Medlocke back was a good move, he's a good player.

Rossington doesn't come off too well in the special. I mean, hey, I get it that you want to make money and you can do well with the Skynyrd name, but now he looks like the Eddie Van Halen of the group.

Not the playing.

In the TV concerts, I've seen, Gary's playing seems quite solid. Now, aesthetically, he always looks constipated and struggling to evacuate his bowels (mid-pinch), but the playing skills seems to be there.

I wonder how much of my favorite music has been made by douchebags, nut cases, or straight-up psychopaths?

And did they always have those tendencies, or does fame and fortune completely destroy one's soul unless extreme vigilance is maintained? Gratitude and humility must be almost impossible to maintain if you are living the life of "Rock Star" or similar to the fullest.

So many soap operas created and productive partnerships destroyed because people have such a hard time getting over themselves or admitting when they are dead wrong and allowing the right thing to be done for a greater good. The ego is surely a MF'er.

Elton John commented on how easy it is to get caught up in the trap of being surrounded by people whose only reason for being around a celebrity is to constantly praise them and tell them how right they are all the time.

Some rock stars use their spare time to endeavor in art. Bruce Dickinson (and Steve Morse, not so much of a "star") learned to fly planes. They did something useful with the leisure time that they can afford. There are going to be some rotten people out there who find out they have all day to do rotten stuff to one another.

Having to work every day in a job that has nothing to do with "fun" has kept a lot of douchebags, nut cases, or straight-up psychopaths from revealing themselves. They still do it, but not in such a big way.

Imagine playing the same songs, telling the same stories, and fielding the same questions day after day for 40 years. That kind of redundancy would drive anyone crazy. If only to provide myself some entertainment, I'd start adding different twists to the stories too.

You guys should hang with Dickie Betts for the full on treatment!

After reading the Allman Brothers Book and Greg's Book, i'll pass.

They seem to be quite common on internet message boards and in the comments of You Tube.

That was sad. And yes, Steve Gaines was a monster player. Ed King was good too, Rossington and Collins were average decent guitarists.

Yeah, very sad to see. The Widow Van Zandt and King seemed to be the sanest of all those characters. Anything to keep the franchise going, ah reckon.

Yup. Grew up in Polk County in their Hayday. Got chased by more rednecks with axe handles than I'd like to remember.
