HFC Korina Standard

Korina

Question

Posted

Hi folks, new member here. While I have acquired a nice batch of Hamer Korina over the years, I am by no means a Hamer expert. Hoping to get some info on my Standard which has " HFC OCT98" stamped on it. Wondering if it's from a limited run, if so, anyone know how many were made and maybe it's value? Any info will be greatly appreciated. Thanks much!!!

Welcome aboard!  That's indeed a cool one.  Early in this site's history (October, 1998, specifically!), the Hamer folks were nice enough to invite the members here up to New Hartford for a special guided tour, along with lunch and some other activities.  One of the cool features of that day was that there were a very limited number of Korina Standards offered to the HFC - it was either 5 or 7, I'll have to dig through the archives to be sure.  At the time, the model was not in production, so combined with the HFC imprint, that was extra cool.  I believe that our site's founder, Ted Martin ("hikarateboy" here) has the first one of the run.

That's a very cool score - can you flesh out any details about how you got yours?

Hey, thanks for the info! I used to be a Mgr / buyer for a good sized music store here and we were Hamer dealers. After my Rep got me two Vectors with wicked Korina  I told him I needed a Standard for my collection. It wasn't long after that he told me he found me a used one but it was one I had to have so I grabbed it. Sorry, but that's all I know about it's history. I knew it was special. However, after I got to know Jol Dantzig, I had him build me my real gem, a Futura built to my specs which Jol helped build.

Korina welcome to the HFC,

Your id name has a nice, yet familiar ring to it then, I saw your note from Jol, nice first name too.

I think there were five built.  Here's mine (thank you, Greg).  Welcome to the board, Korina - your Hamers look amazing!

Nice guitz! Welcome to the boards!

Very cool Futura!

Although Jol may have overseen some parts of the design or build of that one, he really didn't do any "hands on" building at New Hartford.

Maybe so, all my consults about the guitar were with him and he did do the final set up, giving his stamp of approval. Good enough for me. Again guys, thanks for all the info, I learned alot today.

Awesome!  That's definitely a keeper.

I get such a kick out of these discussions.  You lead off with such a nice story around the Standard but then score the winning run with that Futura.  Sweet guitars.  Welcome.

LOVE the Hamer korinas.  There were 5 HFC98s as I recall.

I've had a korina Standard and a Vector, but just down to this beauty now:

I'm an electric 12 fanatic - I've owned and/or played pretty much everything out there - and THAT is easily the nicest 12 string I've ever played.

I love the black guard on that.  And the figuring in the K.  Want.

Yep,  I was lucky enough to get first pick out of the 5 bodies but it was before I had a clue about korina and took the prettiest top.  That was completely subjective though as they were all pretty awesome.  Frank U actually handed me one that weighed like a pound trying to get me to pick it but I was too stupid to understand.  Eric Baird got that one, not sure he still has it so there is a one in 4 chance that's yours.  Is it exceedingly light?
