Got anything for sale?   :)

That depends. What are you looking for?

Badger Dave and I just finalized a blockbuster deal that rivals the Hershel Walker trade.

I'm indirectly in on that one, I ended up the best though....

Soooo....who was Herschel-ized? that deal still hurts, sniff...

I wonder how many of the responses portrayed as "NO .... click" were actually conveyed in the manner you describe.

Frank always holds my hand when he says no... :)

Excellent....looks like Friday is going to be a regular guitar-o-rama. Will you guys have these fine instruments with you on Friday?

Yes, though the pointy one will likely be removed from the fray before the serious drunken thrashing begins.

Here's the skinny:

I got this:

and this:

Dan got this by way of a right of first refusal:

And Kiz got the keys to the vault, from which he selected this:

No, a few years ago 9 guitars moved amongst 3 participants. I didn't sleep until all were safely at their new homes....

The one thing I've TRIED to get from Hamer and been flat turned down on, is a Studio and Special with the 'Standard' headstock....in effect, an Electraglide. I don't understand what their problem with that is.

I know the designer of the Electraglide very well. Hamer promised him they would never make those guitars again.

Who's the designer?

Sam. Great old Hamer dealer although as I understand it, he and Paul were close and he stopped carrying Hamer shortly after Paul and Hamer were not part of the same sentence.

The Electraglides were/are amazing. I hunted mine down for seventeen years!

I had had the 2nd Electraglide for about 10 years. I sold it back to Sam & he sold it to you. Correct?? Sam would always tell me some guy is really interested in your Electraglide. I finally sold it back to him because I was after a Standard Custom. If that guitar gets in that book, you better put my name in the description because I was nice enough to let you have it! Hahaha!

So, with Paul out of the picture for more than 15 years, and Sam not interested in carrying Hamer for that long, the problem would be...?

He did carry some more when the P-90 Specials & Eclipses were new. I bought some from him then.

You got it Dave! I remember when that one popped in the shop in '85. Sam's personal one (I know that DavidB and CMatthes know this, but for anyone else...) was similar, just w/o the P90 and although the top was nice, it wasn't as nice (IMHO!).

I talked to Sam back in the late 90s or so and he mentioned that he and Paul were close and that he stopped carrying Hamers when they started doing all of the bolt ons (I assumed that he was talking about 1988 or so), so I guess that would make sense for the early 90s. Hell-you were there-I'd moved out of Winston by mid-'89.

I think the knobs were not slanted on the original. I got that guitar for $1000. It was a good day.

Imagine 20 or those, all lined up.

Oh, well.

I bet they could sell 20 to the people on this board. We need a limited edition HFC model.

Dave, have you read this thread at all? :)

I get all misty thinking about that guitar. I watched Sam pull it out and put it on the stand behind his counter. He pulled down a Yellow PRS (tell me THAT one ain't worth a ton now!) and put the Hamer where that had been and slipped a red-lettered "DO NOT EVER TOUCH!!" card between the strings. I went in there often and lusted after that guitar.

I had the original one in my hands at a DC guitar show back in '90. A dealer from West Virginia had it in his booth and I won't even say how freakin' cheap it was back then. I played it for a long time, kept coming back to it, and even took a picture of it against the bleachers of the AU gymnasium. I told him as he was packing up for the day that I'd be back to pick it up first thing on Sunday after I pulled some $$ from the ATM.

Sunday @ noon, I walked straight to his booth while my (now) wife parked the car. He saw me coming and shook his head. Apparently, a Japanese buyer had come through with a pallet the night before and was just pointing at cases and loading them on, paying in $100s. It was probably already on an overseas carton getting ready to leave Baltimore by the time the show opened. Yep - you've heard this story from me before. It's probably good therapy to get it all out again and again :)

A little part of me died that day...(sniff)

When I had my Monaco Elite built I was lucky enough to be on a dealer factory tour and got to pick out all my wood with Jol (BCR Greg was there, too!). That was pretty cool I must say. However, at the time they were charging ridiculous upcharges for paint jobs and the Monaco was relatively new (maybe 2 or 3 months old max) and wasn't offered in many colors. I went ahead and ordered mine in a color that wasn't an upcharge even though I wasn't completely thrilled about it. I was already having an ebony board and chambered body done so the up charges were killing me. By the time I got my guitar they stopped upcharging for different paint jobs, something I felt they should never have done especially to someone who was selling their guitars in a shop. That pissed me off because I could have gotten the guitar in a color I really wanted and not had to pay the ridiculous upcharge. Also, they wanted to upcharge me for changing pickups as well. All I wanted were different Duncans and they said no. When I got my guitar I simply called Frank and said I have to have different pickups and got him to agree to sending new ones out no charge so that was cool. I love my Monaco Elite but even with my dealer discount I paid a pretty penny for it. I probably wouldn't do it again. I do have to say that the guitar is absolutley stunning and flawlessly crafted though so I got what I paid for.

Shortly after I ordered my Hamer I ordered a custom guitar from G&L. Those guys did not chrage me ANY upcharges for all the custom stuff I wanted and gave me a AAA maple top at no charge. That was cool. That was a great guitar, I hope the fuckhead who stole it from me is enjoying it. :)

One thing that I found interesting that a lot of you guys already know is how firm Jol is about his designs. We had a dealer "open forum" to discuss new ideas and he promptly shot them all down in flames. I wondered why we had the meeting in the first place. He is gonna build what he wants to period.

I don't know - I've ordered four custom instruments from Hamer, and each one had some design feature or very significant element that I asked for that they hadn't done before or were no longer doing. All exceeded my expectations and with the exception of one that I traded, they will all stay with me permanently.

I understand that no company can't be all things to all people and accept that. I also understand that it can be frustrating to be told you can't get something done, and then a year later you see the same thing right in front of your face. Perhaps it would be better if there was a uniform message - something like "we can't do that now because it would be too much of a deviation/would take too much time off the line and we're backlogged" - would that be more palatable? I can completely understand why they wouldn't build a one-off body, like a Moderne - that's not something they've ever done, and nobody but Gibson has done that. Dozens of companies make Vees and Explorers that are damned close to Gibson and don't violate any agreements or understandings between the companies. Besides, that would cost them far more to design, prototype and build than they'd be able to make by selling one.

I have also personally heard Jol and Frank tell a dealer or customer something directly and then seen a completely different interpretation of their answer appear in threads like this down the road. Hey, I'm not an apologist for Hamer - they know what they're doing and have reasons for doing it. That being said, there are two guitars I'd drop everything to have made that they have declined to me over and over, but their track record for what I have ordered is 100%. The day that they decide to say "yes" to a Studio Custom with a Standard headstock, I'll be the first in line to buy one - and I'll be GLAD to see it too.

Hell yes!!!!! How "bout in a bass form, too!" That is the best fiddle we can hope for, bar none. Can you imagine the guit., let alone a bass? That guitar would rock! A double cut with the standard h-stock. Actually, have them beef up the stress point a little. Let the courts decide, Hamer would sell a shit-boat of those models!
