I was thinking on ordering a Duotone custom with a redwood top and Phatcats.... :):P:D:o:o:D:D:D:D:D:(:(

What were your "NO"'s on realistic custom orders ?

I would wait a while for the newness of the new Studio to wear off ... then I'll bet they'd do it..... give it 6 months.... just a thought...

Perfect answer to temper my GAS for 6 months.

Don't worry, they will build it and show it at NAMM.

I asked repeatedly for them to bind a Korina Vector for me. They repeatedly told me "NO". Then I go to NAMM and they have a multi-ply bound Vector. You can ask Cmatthes, I shot them a great big finger, and it wasn't my pinky.

I could list the "No"s that I have heard that later become guitars elsewhere, but I don't have the time.

Let's see which ones we can figure out.

There was no way Hamer would make a single cut. Now they make Monacos and those pseudo Juniors for Wilcutt.

A one piece neck has never been approved until the Triple Threat series.

I once asked for a bound mahogany Standard: "No binding on non-maple tops."

I once asked for a Korina Vector in gold: "No gold on korina or mahogany."

I once asked for a single humbucker Special: "No neck pickup delete without a pickguard."

I once asked for a reverse headstock on a Standard: "No."

There were others, but these are just a few of the things that I asked for that got shot down, only to appear down the road on other guitars.

Between that, the rediculous upcharges for the simplest requests, and the lack of attention to TWO of my custom orders (which resulted in replacement guitars) got me turned off to ever ordering a new Hamer again.

At least they haven't built a Firebird.....yet.

Eventually, you stop just asking.

I guess "series" is the keyword now.

But you should keep asking. That's how good companies get innovative ideas...from their customers.

...........and it wasn't my pinky.

It was only thought to be your pinky due to your unusually small hands.

Yea right. Screw them. You ask once or twice. After that, you're just a glotton for punishment.

I'm not going to beg them to take my money to make me a guitar.

There are plenty of builders out there thrilled to do just that.

LMAO. Hamer's the most inconsistent company building guitars out there. I was told no for a solid white Standard. I was told no black binding. I was told no chambers in Standards. And the list goes on.

Needless to say, I never placed a custom order. As Kiz says, there are other companies who welcome the challenge. Spend your money with them.

The one thing I've TRIED to get from Hamer and been flat turned down on, is a Studio and Special with the 'Standard' headstock....in effect, an Electraglide. I don't understand what their problem with that is.

It's too "obvious". :)

AFA the Hockey headstock, I think it more has to do with the guitar CASE, than the actual build. They don't stock cases that would fit such a thing. Or at least, that's what they say.

Face it, Jol and company have gone conservative/respectable on us. It appears they are in a niche, happy to be there, and marketing as such. Nothing too over the top, mind you. Or at least without a struggle.

Although this is definitely NHC, what other companies that do Hamer-standard quality will do nearly whatever you want (at or near the same price)?

Jaye, I was wondering when you were going to switch your sig photo. It's a hoot! Or rather a toot!

You know, throughout my business career, I have always kept a folder in one of my desk drawers. Every time I asked for something and got a ‘NO’, had an idea that was shot down and rejected, I’d document it and stick it in this folder. The tab on the folder read: NOT NOW!

I try not to take ‘NO’ for an answer. Look at it more as they’re just not ready for it, the times just not right, or again, Just NOT NOW!

IMHO, anyway

We dropped the original Electraglide in a B12m case and it fit perfectly.

They still wont make them, not even the 10 that I offered to buy.

They WILL at some point, but none of us that have been asking will get them. It will be someone else that happens to ask at the "right" time for Hamer.

:D

The day they tell me NO on a custom order is the day i burn every single Hamer i own ... video it and send it to them... tell me no?!?!?!.... no one tells me no(except the wife shhhhh) hahahahahaha...... :)

no really to be honest.... if you want my money( and i know you read this shit) then you dont say no.... not like anyone asks something impossible.... not like we arent willing to WAIT for it to be completed... the more you piss off your LOYAL customer base... the more you loose ground... its simple really... but then again this is Kaman we're talking about... its all about $$$ .... oh wait.. WE PAY THIER BILLS!!!!!..... go figure... good business sense.... loose money by saying no..(uses hands as a scale) gain money by doing this... hmmmmmmm...

oh well /end rant...

That's why I place my order for one ever 2-3 months...

Since 2001. :)

RS Guitarworks will build whatever you want at the highest level of quality, for one.

Yes, Hamer does what it wants (or as it seems more likely: refuse to do what it doesn't want) and I don't think it has anything to do with Kaman. But obviously Hamer believes they're on the right track but I absolutely agree that saying no to a loyal customer base is a bad idea. They lost me as a customer a long time ago over all the no's I got. And then they declared "no dealer exclusives" but turned around and did the Triple Threats and the hideous Special Ks and XTCs with Willcutt...gawd.

What, they think we don't remember this stuff??? There's no doubt they make great guitars. But not for me.

Does Jackson do really odd requests? Even if they do, I recently saw a USA Jackson hanging in a store with inconsistent rounding of the fret ends.

I held HardheartedBill's McInturff. It was an extremely comfortable guitar. Will McInturff venture out into custom orders?

The Huber I tried at BCR was incredible, too. Though they are pricey, can you get a Huber with a lot of custom options?

I really love my Hamers, but there are a few dream guitars I would love to have one day. A Chaparral Max would make my day and it would not be hard to make. I just haven't had the money to order one. Seeing Standard basses in 8 and 12 strings is encouraging.
