serial Posted December 30, 2016 Posted December 30, 2016 This red one that I used to own is on the back cover of 'The Book'. I also had a red two humbucker one. Great guitars, but I console myself with my Gibson Historics now which I prefer because they are Floydless. Having Floyds was what made me get rid of the two Hamers I had.

cmatthes Posted December 30, 2016 Posted December 30, 2016 I love the Hamer FBs, but the necks on the Gibsons are just incredible.

Yeah but Gibson's QC issues are all over the place... I recently looked at 3 FB's at GC and each one had some sort issue with it... don't get me wrong, I love Gibson's "mostly Lesters"... hell I even named my late great German Shepherd Gibson~ but I have found throughout my years, pound-for-pound, Hamers are the most consistent high quality guitars out there! Hamers rule all!
cmatthes Posted December 31, 2016 Posted December 31, 2016 I should clarify then...the Custom Shop/Historic Firebirds are killer guitars.
Jeff R Posted December 31, 2016 Posted December 31, 2016 If this isn't Serial's old 2HB, it's an uber-accurate stand-in. I owned Serial's for a stint, as did a couple other HFC'er - the one who I bought it from and another I sold it to. It was heavier than I thought it would be, with a sick thin neck. Akin to a fretted fingerboard with a truss rod taped to the back.

I ordered that in 2002. My wife got me the Kerry Green Firebird a few years later. Coincidence or happy accident?

Hamers rule all! I have never experienced a single issue with quality control on a Gibson Historic. Mine are easily the equal to most of my Hamers. My 2007 SG/LP Standard and the white FBIII have been my main gig guitars for years, replacing my Hamers if that means anything.
mc2 Posted December 31, 2016 Posted December 31, 2016 I did the same thing due to the Floyd on the FB and opted for a Gibby CS Firebird.

mc2 Posted January 1, 2017 Posted January 1, 2017 Yeah, 'Birds are definitely bigger than LPs......but they are a hell of a lot lighter!! Check out these cool looking prototype pickups I got from a former Gibson Montana guy that I'm gonna try in the LP. They are just sitting on top to see how they look. The tweed cutouts and creme rings look great with the maple fingerboard, no?

Been playing Thunderbirds for years (a worn but exceptional natural '76 is one of my cold-dead-hands basses), and the right Firebird is on the bucket list... one of these days.

I got a hell of a deal on my Cardinal Red '91 reissue and gigged it a few times after buying my first Hamer. But it was definitely "yooooge" and had some serious neck dive...even with a 4" strap.
serial Posted January 2, 2017 Posted January 2, 2017 Never any neckdive on my FBs:. Use the neck heel strap button.
Dave Scepter Posted January 3, 2017 Author Posted January 3, 2017 Hey, were there any "Hamer" Hardtail/TOP Firebirds made?.. & if so, any pics?

Vs, Explorers and Firebirds need the behind the heel button... anything else and tons of them are neck heavy. I have recently picked up a production model Firebird, and I love it. While it'd never be a primary instrument for me, it's a great alternate tone. I wonder how many people notice the change in the upper left shoulder between the old ones and the newer ones... I like the new shape much better.
