Funky Chicken Posted April 5, 2018 Author Posted April 5, 2018 Turns out the number 73 carries some weight for me. '73 is the year I bought the first album I ever used my own money to buy (Goodbye Yellow Brick Road), and the year I really got turned on to music. That summer I went to a day camp that required a 45 minute ride each way-the camp used giant station wagons to pick up and drop off.The counselors drove, and looking back I realize that they were probably high a lot of the time. Every day I would hang out the back window of the Blue Dodge wagon and groove to the radio-the summer of '73 was a pretty amazing time for radio. So diverse, and so many unbelievable songs-take a look at this list of songs released as single that year. 1 Free Bird Lynyrd Skynyrd 2 Let's Get It On Marvin Gaye 3 Midnight Train To Georgia Gladys Knight and the Pips 4 Dream On Aerosmith 5 Living For The City Stevie Wonder 6 Money Pink Floyd 7 Piano Man Billy Joel 8 Killing Me Softly With His Song Roberta Flack 9 Goodbye Yellow Brick Road Elton John 10 That Lady Isley Brothers 11 Angie Rolling Stones 12 Bennie And The Jets Elton John 13 The Joker Steve Miller Band 14 Radar Love Golden Earring 15 Drift Away Dobie Gray 16 Higher Ground Stevie Wonder 17 Knockin' On Heaven's Door Bob Dylan 18 Get Up, Stand Up Wailers 19 Takin' Care Of Business Bachman-Turner Overdrive 20 Ramblin' Man Allman Brothers Band 21 Time Pink Floyd 22 Were An American Band Grand Funk 23 Band On The Run Paul McCartney and Wings 24 Natural High Bloodstone 25 When Will I See You Again Three Degrees 26 The Payback James Brown 27 Until You Come Back To Me Aretha Franklin 28 Long Train Runnin' Doobie Brothers 29 Over the Hills and Far Away Led Zeppelin 30 You Make Me Feel Brand New Stylistics 31 Jessica Allman Brothers Band 32 Candle In the Wind Elton John 33 Rosalita Bruce Springsteen 34 Live And Let Die Paul McCartney and Wings 35 Bad Bad Leroy Brown Jim Croce 36 Never Never Gonna Give Ya Up Barry White 37 Desperado Eagles 38 I Can't Stand The Rain Ann Peebles 39 Jet Paul McCartney and Wings 40 China Grove Doobie Brothers 41 La Grange ZZ Top 42 Behind Closed Doors Charlie Rich 43 Daniel Elton John 44 I Shot The Sheriff Wailers 45 Kodachrome Paul Simon 46 Love's Theme Love Unlimited Orchestra 47 Best Thing That Ever Happened To Me Gladys Knight and the Pips 48 Rock The Boat Hues Corporation 49 Show And Tell Al Wilson 50 Feelin' Stronger Every Day Chicago 51 Cum On Feel the Noize Slade 52 Diamond Girl Seals And Crofts 53 Ballroom Blitz The Sweet 54 Rock On David Essex 55 Rocky Mountain Way Joe Walsh 56 20th Century Boy T. I didn't pick up the guitar until a few years later (I was taking piano lessons at the time), but I became a full fledged music nut that summer. I'm not a big fan of The Big Bang Theory, but Sheldon's explanation of why 73 is his favorite number and the best number is relevant too. Sheldon often wears vintage T-shirts adorned with superhero logos. One of his shirts is emblazoned with the number 73, and in the episode "The Alien Parasite Hypothesis" he explains that 73 is the 21st prime number, its mirror, 37, is the 12th prime number and its mirror (21) is the product of multiplying 7 and 3, also in binary, 73 is a palindrome, 1001001 which backwards is 1001001. So we have a Rush reference too, in the form of 1001001 from "The Body Electric".
soli'd Posted April 5, 2018 Posted April 5, 2018 The year I was born. I have always liked various combinations of 3 & 7- esp. 33, 77, and 73. 33 has always been what I considered my lucky number.

ptm1diver Posted April 6, 2018 Posted April 6, 2018 Oh, and lest we forget Ry Cooder in 1973 1973 was a good year. So, if that’s any indication, #73 should be a fantastic guitar.

Hamerica Posted April 8, 2018 Posted April 8, 2018 Turns out the number 73 carries some weight for me." - Funky Chicken I immediately went to song #73 and laughed out loud. I thought FC was referring to song #73 at first, that's what I get for reading just the first line. Now if Kiz was into say number #99 For me #55 is about as good as it gets on that list. Hamerica

Funky Chicken Posted April 18, 2018 Author Posted April 18, 2018 I'll give this a bump Not sharing any pics per request. Final neck carve in progress-everything I have seen so far exceeds all my expectations and really reflects what I saw in my head when I placed the order. I was a little apprehensive at times about the little twist I requested but once again Mike knew exactly how to handle it. I think it came out killer. Finish choice is going to be difficult. My original vision is not off the table, but I have some other ideas that are getting in the way. I will also give Mike every chance to give me good guidance.

I struggled toward the end, but the finished result came out better than I could have imagined. The ticket for me was to see the mock up with the hardware sitting on the guitar.
a.bandini Posted April 18, 2018 Posted April 18, 2018 I'm sure your guitar will be great. But back to 1973: #48 and 68 are pretty wretched songs. I'm pretty sure other horrible songs are in that list, too.
