HamerCustomEr Posted December 16, 2020 Posted December 16, 2020 No affiliation. Seller says that this is a very rare 1995. I agree that it must be very rare, especially considering the 1996 serial number! https://reverb.com/ca/item/37760089-hamer-usa-standard-unbound-1995-black-custom-order-very-rare
RobB Posted December 16, 2020 Posted December 16, 2020 $5K??? No proof of provenance, no OHSC. I'd tell him to list it at $2300 and take an offer of $2K.
mirrorimij Posted December 18, 2020 Posted December 18, 2020 With all the brain cells I’ve killed I can’t believe I remember that guitar but I think I might. If it’s the one I’m thinking of the “pro artist” was a body sander at Hamer. I think that guitar body is alder or basswood which would make it pretty rare for a Standard. I’’m not 100% though.
cynic Posted December 18, 2020 Posted December 18, 2020 “Custom built by Hamer for Pro Artist...not toured or gigged with.” If “pro artist” didn’t want to play it, neither do I.

Clearly a seller who presents his wares so picturesquely has saved and categorized all ancillary parts and hardware in a painstaking manner. Once you pay the reasonable (given the discounted asking price for this amazing specimen) premium on for the covers, the necessary screws will be provided.

Yeah, at that price, I think the necessary screws will certainly be administered--errr--I mean, provided to the purchaser.
Crwth145 Posted December 26, 2020 Posted December 26, 2020 Too bad about the price. That guitar's an unfinished canvas -- would be quite incredible looking with a few mods like boomers, body & head binding.

Not that it matters, though. Even at $3350 he's at least a grand too high for that guitar. And I'm being very generous.

You are being generous I wouldn’t want this unless it was for a good deal. This doesn’t offer anything I’d want in standard except the ebony board. If I got a black standard I’d want body binding, dots, nickel/chrome hardware and creme and zebra pickups.

acb Posted February 4, 2021 Posted February 4, 2021 Local specialist on fbook marketplace listing a 96 Ebony Standard. Price adjusted to $2500. No known issues, repairs or refin. Previously owned by local musician. PSA for those who may be interested. I have no affiliation to seller. Seller not a HFC member. Please excuse the listing if this is a repeat of an earlier thread. https://reverb.com/item/37760089-hamer-usa-standard-1996-ebony

79Sunburst Posted February 4, 2021 Posted February 4, 2021 That's a standard that I would mod and not much care about devaluation. Anything you did to it would be an improvement. The first thing would be is to lose the gold hardware and add boomers.

The rout would be tedious for body and headstock binding without an overhead pin router and you would be pulling frets and possible fingerboard removal to install binding. I think it would be odd looking with binding on the body and headstock but not on the fingerboard. Non bound standards can look good if done right. I'd probably just go with boomers and a non evasive pickguard skin just for looks. It might be cool to have a Standard with a traditional Gibson Explorer vibe.

Some people seem to have to put a little extra spin on things as they feel that will add more to the sale of the guitar, true or not. A "BODY ARTIST" huh? Now that would make this a rare guitar now wouldn't it?

Nickle/chrome hardware or blacked out? A 'stealth-out' (no boomers) would look pretty cool... 😎 Here's an early blacked-out Standard in action.. the song? lol... https://youtu.be/b9eXNXN6MyY
79Sunburst Posted February 6, 2021 Posted February 6, 2021 Are you kidding? I love that version by Garland Jeffreys. A lot of new wave that I hated back then bring back the fond memories of the 80's for me. Thanks.

Practically anything from the 80s that I didn't like back then sounds better to me than what is coming out now.
wgarces Posted February 9, 2021 Posted February 9, 2021 I ordered a white Standard with a white headstock and an ebony board from Stuyvesant guitars in NYC in 1980. I believe the serial number was 0567 or 0597, not sure. I sold it in 1988. Wish I could find it.
