No affiliation. Dunno if I ever saw a black DT. Case is beat but the axe looks pretty nice for the price. Lemme know how you like it!

John Myung, bass player for Dream Theater, played a black Duotone in “The Silent Man” video...

It’s not going to last long at that price. I offered him asking price, eBay listing fee cost, and shipping, and he passed on it.

Bummer. I guess what’s listed in Vegas stays in Vegas.

ETA: Hey Duotone experts — Are the three holers preferred over the f-holers for some reason?

3-holes are flat top spruce and f-holes have a maple arch top, if I remember correctly...

Duotone Custom (f-hole) spec is still a spruce top but it's thicker and carved.  Of course, we're talking about Hamer so there is a smattering of maple topped Customs out there.

If there's a real preference for 3-holers the prices don't reflect it, which could be the reason some get excited over them.

You right. Just did a quick google deep dive and came up with way more carved spruce tops on the Duotone customs and only a handful of maple tops.

damn this getting old thing and the whole memory whatnot...

The pickup on the three hole Duotone is the same piezo bridge that Ovation has put on their acoustics for years. The Duotone Custom has a Kynar (sp?) pickup under the saddle which is more sensitive and has a wider frequency response. I have owned three Three Holers and two Customs. There are both great, but the acoustic output on the custom is superior IMHO.

Everybody had f-holes. The three holes were unique and, in the right conditions, would feed back at different pitches depending on which hole you covered.

3 holes and a heartbeat. That’s all you really need for some guys to be interested...
