Brooks Posted April 12, 2022 Posted April 12, 2022 Quote The patented Mag-Lok has been carefully engineered using Rare Earth magnets.

I haven't commented 'cuz the jury is still out. It's taming a Wilkinson VS-100 floater. BEWARE a too narrow spacing between the springs. On the Wilky the fit is tight and it complicated the install. The springs still fuck with the cylinder but the system seems to have stabilized with the block end of the spring half way out of the hole in the block. I have a wider gauge claw here on my bench... I had JeffRo, among other blessings, plug and redrill the holes for the claw screws on my 812. It was way too narrow to even fit the Mag-loc. Stewmac has wide spaced claws but the screw holes were wider than the OEM. The 812 has a Super-Vee bridge. Order in for a Mag-loc for this. The instructions are meh. The trick is to get a tiny bit of compression on the felt pad that mitigates the return impact of the block and leaving enough room in the mounting bracket hold down screw slot to adjusticate where you tighten the hold down screw. Hold the bracket tight in place when tightening the hold down screw cuz it'll move on ya. It seems to work, if the intent is to increase the break point force rotating the bridge towards you. Like adding inertia, but not really, like spiderman splooge but in only one direction. Pulling up on the bridge with my fingers it is hard to make it move vs. pushing down. Using the bar it is not noticeable.

Hamer_SS_guy Posted April 20, 2022 Posted April 20, 2022 Of the four Strats I have, there are two I really love. The other two need a better setup, they go out of tune fast. I really am a HSS Strat user. I like them with gold hardware too, and rosewood, pau ferro or ebony boards. Maple just isn't my thing. One of my is a 2001 Am Series neck on a 2001 Am Deluxe body, cherry red transparent. The electronics are from a 2003 HSS Strat, Tex-Mex and Diamondback humbucker with S-1 switch. Sounds great to me. The other is also a parts Strat from Fender parts. 2014 cherry sunburst Am Std ash body and 2014 Am Special (big headstock) neck with pau ferro board. Schaller locking tuners with short posts, Fender deluxe locking tremolo, Fender modern Twinhead humbucker and two Dimarzio Chopper, no coil split. I like the sound and playability of that guitar, looks great to me too. I also just got the Chap Deluxe out of the case and played it a bit. The EMG's give it a similar sound to a Strat. That is not the case with my Californian (same EMG's, but maple body). I have two old Kramer Focus 3000, I want to put new electronics into those, I am a fan of Dimarzio's, one might even get a Schaller vintage trem. I wish there would be a locking nut replacement that would transform it to a regular nut.

Using the bar it is not noticeable. So, it's in today. This is the guitar I had to spread the strings apart to make it fit the space. It went in easy enough. Keep checking the tuning after you get it the first time, second time, etc. With wider spacing now between the springs comes the problem of the string vibrating against the body of the 'Loc. So watch that. Found it best to gently hold the bracket back away from the device to get a good seat on the rebound pad, then check tuning and do it again.
JGale Posted April 21, 2022 Posted April 21, 2022 Hmmm. Turns out the tighter spring spacing on the 604 Wilky bridge is keeping the cylinder containing the magnet from vibrating. Here, with plenty of room (new claw with wider spacing, the OEM was way too tight), it's free to vibrate with heavy strumming, and it does. It's out pending a way to dampen the thing.
bubs_42 Posted April 24, 2022 Author Posted April 24, 2022 Well, even Fender gets all the parts right some times. This must have been a late Tuesday or Wednesday Build. No fret issues what so ever, I took it from the Store to my friend Josh’s and dropped it off. Two days later I got the call, it went across the bench with no issues. No low frets, no high frets , it Al only need to have the set up done and the trem set. The pickups are like hot’ish 50’s pickups, just not enough push for me. Take a look at this board! You have the bridge wired to its own tone pot, you have a push pot to bring in the neck pickup with the bridge.
tweed Posted April 24, 2022 Posted April 24, 2022 Nice fretboard ! I like when they have streaks like that. It gives the rosewood a bit more exotic look to it.
Jakeboy Posted April 25, 2022 Posted April 25, 2022 That is a gorgeous Strat and with the bridge-neck option, it is the perfect configuration.
Feynman Posted April 25, 2022 Posted April 25, 2022 Does the year of the Strat start now, or is part of the idea to get four free months' credit?

Feynman Posted April 26, 2022 Posted April 26, 2022 I already had my Year of the Strat, as I know you recall. I think it lasted well into February.

stonge Posted May 21, 2022 Posted May 21, 2022 when I hear this I hear Mark Knopfler into Neil Young, and it makes me wonder if anything more than a neck pickup on a strat is necessary.

We can support each other. I have the Tele and am ready to go on my end. We're not crazy...they're the ones that're crazy... Edited to add: You cleared two months and two days, which is impressive. I don't think my Year of the Strat lasted quite as long as your impressive display of self control and willpower.
diablo175 Posted June 27, 2022 Posted June 27, 2022 FWIW, I’ve found the secret for me is not to conform to the dictates and idiosyncrasies of the Strat but to have the Strat conform to your expectations and preferences. Yes, this could potentially negate its certificate of Strat pedigree but honestly, do you think anybody gives a fat rats ass?
JGale Posted June 27, 2022 Posted June 27, 2022 the way to hump a strat is not to get yourself a stool but draw a line around the spot and call it beautifool to multiply because and why dividing thens by nows and adding and(i understand) is hows to hump a strat the way to hump a strat is not to elevate your tool but drop a penny in the slot and bellow like a bool to lay a wreath from ancient greath on insulated brows (while tossing boms at uncle toms is hows to hump a strat the way to hump a strat is not to push and then to pull but practicing the art of swot to preach the golden rull to vote for me(all decent mem and wonens will allows which if they don't to hell with them) is hows to hump a strat - Dylan Thomas, "The Mabinogian"
