Also loved Pros and Cons, and Amused To Death. Great lyricist, even if I don’t always agree what with what he’s saying. Fair Warning fans think alike.
Dasein Posted February 17, 2023 Posted February 17, 2023 I'm curious - just as a comparative thing and as a reflection or backwards echo.... should be interesting.

LucSulla Posted March 3, 2023 Posted March 3, 2023 Ooof... that clip of "Us and Them"... And I'm not at all against crazy reworkings of DSOTM. Some other versions of "Us and Them": Exhibit A: Exhibit B: But that clip of Roger's... Not good.

Yeah, when "Breathe" kicks in, it's definitely a whole vibe,.This thread reminded me of it last night as an example, and I ended up listening through the whole thing in my hotel room after posting here.

Another irony is that the more he tries to demonstrate how Pink Floyd was all him, the more obvious it becomes that it would have been pretty shit with Dave, Nick, and Rick. Momentary Lapse and Division Bell weren't exactly classics, and the lyrics did suffer a bit. But they were hardly as cringe as this. A bad cover band couldn't do worse.

Willie G. Moseley Posted April 11, 2023 Posted April 11, 2023 Okay, so I went ahead and ordered the live at Empire Pool 1974 version of DSOTM, and could do a review of it in one word: "Whatever"...or maybe "Optional." It helps to remember this was recorded a year and a half after the studio album was released, so to what extent is it a historical document if the band had been playing it (or selections from it) for that long? Fidelity's okay, as is the production and mix---a bit bony but not necessarily "thin", since it's just the members + Dick Parry on sax + Venetta Field and Carlina Williams on backing vocals (note the credit for "vocal composition" on "The Great Gig In The Sky" to Clair Torry in the liner notes). Gotta admit that's an excellent tone from Waters' bass on "Money" although I prefer his raw riffing on the Live at Pompeii soundtrack (his work on "Echoes" on Pompeii is a definitive gut-bucket sound). There's a bit of stretching out on "Money" and "Us and Them" that's mildly interesting but uncomplicated. Some of the online comments complain that the entire concert should have been presented (reportedly, there was an excellent version of "Echoes" performed at the show). Comparisons will be made between the original DSOTM and this CD vs. The Wall and Is Anybody Out There. There are more distinct differences in the latter two albums, whereas the 1974 DSOTM performance comes off as somewhat perfunctory overall. Another anecdote RE Waters doing Pink Floyd material: Seems like a few decades ago he was on an all-star guitar concert (might've been the one with Les Paul, Robbie Robertson and Richard Thompson that I saw on VHS). Waters walked onstage without an instrument and crooned "Comfortably Numb", the tune on The Wall that is most closely associated with David Gilmour (!). I thought it was an awkward presentation. YMMV

django49 Posted January 31, 2024 Posted January 31, 2024 Apparently BMG has now dumped him over politics. As someone reacted...... "Living on the dark side of the Moon and watching pigs fly is making this guy just another prick in the wall".
