specialk Posted May 13, 2009 Posted May 13, 2009 Don't ask me how. Okay, ask me how. I was just playing and dropped my pick. Reaching down for it I remembered there was a chance of getting some HFC picks made up. Is that idea still floating around? sk, who also has a chance at a new Talladega Pro,
zorrow Posted May 13, 2009 Posted May 13, 2009 I do want HFC picks. 3 mm thick, please --like Dunlop Big Stubbies, but made of a stronger material (say, stainless steel? )
cmatthes Posted May 13, 2009 Posted May 13, 2009 Yes - that's still "active" - I was planning on doing that when things slowed down later this month or by early June.At this point, l'd like to try to gauge interest in what I have planned to offer. Usually, 50 people have 100 different things they want, so I'll be making the executive decision as to what we'll be offering.I'm trying to decide what a manageable minimum purchase would be as well, and want to be able to set a price that will cover our costs and shipping (shipping shouldn't be much, certainly not within the ConUS) and still be attractive. At this point, I plan to offer these to members in increments of 10 picks and at a flat rate per group of 10. These will be available for all of our international members at the same price, but obviously, the shipping charges will be higher.Right now, I'm looking at doing a run of Celluloid in Medium and Heavy, and maybe also Delrins (like the Dunlop matte-finished picks) in Medium (.73mm) and Heavy (.88mm) - maybe also in Xtra Heavy (1.0mm). This will depend entirely on interest level, but I'm going to keep this as simple as possible. For example, if only one person wants 12 thin picks, chances are we're not going to be able to accommodate that request. We'll certainly try our best to make sure that there's pretty much something for everyone.Although the Delrin colors are pretty limited (same schemes as the Dunlops - Yellow or Black/Med, Green/Heavy, Blue or Black/Xtra Heavy), the Celluloid picks can be ordered in different solid colors, pearloids, tortoise, clownpuke etc. I'll probably narrow that down to one or two color choices and offer those only.In my experience, the print on the Celluloid picks is pretty much there for the life of the pick, but the matte surface on the Delrins tends to cause the print on those to wear over time. It really depends on which style you prefer, but it's the same thing as the picks you'd buy in any store. For what it's worth, we'll be doing the standard 351 shape only, as "Sharkfin" picks aren't available at this time!
specialk Posted May 13, 2009 Author Posted May 13, 2009 Cool. Thanks for the update, cmatthes!I'm pretty easy. I can manage with some of whatever you decide on. But I do know I want some. Med/Hvy, either is fine. I'm drawn to tortoise, but any colors will work.
sixlicks Posted May 13, 2009 Posted May 13, 2009 I would like to have some . Fender med. are what I use . Be cool to have some .
cmatthes Posted May 13, 2009 Posted May 13, 2009 I would like to have some . Fender med. are what I use . Be cool to have some .The Celluloid 351s here are the identical shape and quality as the Fender version. Basically, same feel, "snap", attack, etc.The Delrins are also the same as the Dunlop versions.
Steve Haynie Posted May 13, 2009 Posted May 13, 2009 Medium celluloid 351 picks are my favorite for guitar. I plan on ordering those for sure! I like Dunlop Tortex in .73 for bass. I have not tried the Delrin picks yet, but if they have a matte finish I can try them.

unfun75 Posted May 13, 2009 Posted May 13, 2009 Cool. I use the Fender-style for acoustic and the Tortex for electric. I'm in.BTW, Dunlop makes an all-black line of the Tortex picks (Pitch Blacks) if anyone wants to see what they look like. Those would be cool with the Hamer logo.
JohnnyB Posted May 13, 2009 Posted May 13, 2009 For what it's worth, we'll be doing the standard 351 shape only, as "Sharkfin" picks aren't available at this time!Oh great. Now I have to go out and buy a 12-string.
DavidE Posted May 14, 2009 Posted May 14, 2009 What, no PRS picks? ;-)I'll check 'em out. A little checkerboard maybe?
atquinn Posted May 14, 2009 Posted May 14, 2009 Umm, what's the closest to a Jazz III? I'll take a couple dozen of 'em.-Austin
Siaip Ciuvas Posted May 14, 2009 Posted May 14, 2009 I can take two dozens of 1 mm (or even three-four, depending on price and shipping cost). Prefferably tortex.
zorrow Posted May 14, 2009 Posted May 14, 2009 I'd take one dozen of 1 mm then, but... can you push the gauge up to 1.5 mm at least? And yes, tortex is the $hit.
burningyen Posted May 14, 2009 Posted May 14, 2009 Aren't black picks (and clear ones) easier to lose?
Jorge Posted May 14, 2009 Posted May 14, 2009 Would a 346 pick size be possible? I would buy 3 dozen, in Medium, thanks.
blackfbiv Posted May 14, 2009 Posted May 14, 2009 Am I the only guy that uses a lighter pick for bass? And goes by color? (I know, real bass players don't use a pick...blah blah blah... ) I'm partial to Orange Tortex myself... that's a .60 I think? But I'll take a dozen or two in a heavier gauge (depending on final $$$)... whatever... it's all good.
specialk Posted May 14, 2009 Author Posted May 14, 2009 Would a 346 pick size be possible? I thought I was the only one goofy enough to like the 346 pick size. Not to make anything difficult but if they are offered in 346, I'd take several dozen. Hell, I'll take several dozen in whatever size they come in,
Steve Haynie Posted May 14, 2009 Posted May 14, 2009 Aren't black picks (and clear ones) easier to lose? That was the thought that launched an empire. Ernie Ball played guitar way back in the stone age. All the stages were dark-- black floorboards and low lights. Guitar picks were basically one color: tortoise shell. Mr. Ball had a music store and asked Fender if they could make picks in bright or light colors so when a guitar player dropped his pick on a dark stage with low light he could find it in a hurry. Fender laughed at the idea. Ernie Ball either found a pick manufacturer that would make what he wanted or he bought the equipment to make picks himself. He is the one to thank for cool looking guitar picks!
cmatthes Posted May 14, 2009 Posted May 14, 2009 Jorge/SpecialK:I could probably order some 346 shapes - you guys prefer the Tortex/Delrin stuff or Celluloid?
