polara Posted April 8, 2008 Posted April 8, 2008 Two years ago things were a bit rough for polara. I'd lost my business the year before, finalized an expensive divorce, almost died in a bike crash, and had to start out from scratch. Fortunately I have some marketable skills and got a good job, met a fabulous woman, married and was doing well when my new wife and I BOTH got laid off.Convinced I was going to experience a repeat of my disastrous 2005, I overreacted and sold all my music stuff. A MINTY green FM Special, the ex-JohnnyThunders white Artist, and saddest of all, "Goldie", the bound and crowned GT with humbuckers that was my favorite ever... all at fire sale prices.iownit4 bought Goldie and told me that if times got better he'd sell it back for the silly-low price he paid for it. Naturally I got a job, my wife got a job, we had a daughter and a year passed, 18 months passed... and Goldie would pop up in my mind now and then.Well, I contacted Rob yesterday, saying if he didn't play it a lot, I'd trade a more valuable, pristine Gibson for the ol' goldtop. He said sure, but he'd also keep his word and sell it back to me same price if I preferred. My jaw dropped and I said yes. So thanks, sir. It's nice to see that some people have that kind of integrity, and cheers to Rob... a straight-up guy!And welcome home, Goldie! Pics to come...
pesocaster Posted April 8, 2008 Posted April 8, 2008 Rob is a good guy and a man of his word... I've had several dealing with him... all of them hitch free.
Imiss85 Posted April 8, 2008 Posted April 8, 2008 Awesome. I've said it once, I'll say it again, other gear boards are message boards, this place is community/ family.
acb Posted April 8, 2008 Posted April 8, 2008 awesome to read about good karma between HFC members and friendsthe HFC forums are great
cmatthes Posted April 9, 2008 Posted April 9, 2008 Very cool, guys! There are really a lot of great people here. I've had the pleasure to deal with a good deal of you over the last decade.
Thundernotes Posted April 9, 2008 Posted April 9, 2008 Great news! That's why I feel better about selling stuff here; there's always the chance you could get it back
ET_KenW Posted April 9, 2008 Posted April 9, 2008 Hmmmmm....... Hamer Rental Service...... I think you are on to something there. Maybe I can use that excuse on the wife for my next purchase."Oh honey, I'm just holding it for the guy for a few years."It's basically stories like this that keep me coming back to this place. Props to Iownit and to you for persevering through the rough times.
Jeff R Posted April 9, 2008 Posted April 9, 2008 Without elaborating and to preserve anonymity at a few folks' request, +1 Gazillion to the subject of this thread. My most cherished material possession is partly so because of more than its material qualities. It has a story behind it that is a testament to the meaning of true friendships, and the friendships began as like-minded dumbasses loitering on this message board. I can't begin to describe the gratitude I have for this silly clubhouse of ours and too many of its troublemakers. Thanks again, Ted.
blackfbiv Posted April 9, 2008 Posted April 9, 2008 "Love is in the air..." All joshing aside...this is a cool place...
Special J Posted April 9, 2008 Posted April 9, 2008 Absolutely! I've only had a couple of dealings with HFC members, but it's definitely the place I feel safest in buying/selling gear on the net. I love stories with happy endings!
