I'm changing a floyd trem bar on  a Cali over to the threaded collar that stays on the bar, from the screw in bar type, I have a few of those collar type bars already. I thought I ordered the part a few weeks ago, but I had forgotten to, so I ordered it over the weekend.  The Cali has been unstrung for a few weeks now

Just now I'm putting some other parts away in my compartmented parts bin/box, "hmm, I think I remember seeing one of those trem bar parts in here before", - sure enough I had the part all along.  Sheesh!

If that's the first time you've experienced that count yourself lucky.  I've got two (or even more in several cases) of LOTS of things for that very reason.

I thought that was a requirement for membership here. Lol

I've actually had preliminary talks to sell a guitar I'd sold years before and didn't realize (remember?) I no longer owned it until I went looking for it to take photos.

If it was that 25th Anniversary PRS Mira that I think I bought from you, I still have it.

That’s sort of like seeing a guitar case on the pile, not recognizing it, opening it and finding a guitar that you forgot that you had.
I wish I could say this only happened to me once.

Been there, done that. Forgot I had a PRS CE 24, opened a case I thought had a G&L Legacy in it, and there it was.

I probably heard it here, but I remember the story of someone seeing a B12M or L for sale, in black, and they bought it, thinking "yeah they are cool and I might need one some day." They get it, it's nice, they go to put it into their guitar stash, and notice another Hamer case of the same size. They open it up, and sure enough, it was another B12.

Not exactly in line with the subject, but kind sorta...

I remember years ago, someone here (don't remember who) told the story about ordering a guitar case from MF. When it arrived they opened it to find a Hamer inside! Being a good HFC'er, as is typical, they called MF to make return arrangements... They were told that it would probably be better for everyone involved, if they were to just keep it versus pursuing things. Details may be skewed, but that's how I recall it.

Done that. The worst is when I've done it with CD's or LP's. "I need that album", and I buy it. Come home and it's already on the shelf.

So far that's only happened to me with boring stuff from the supermarket. I'll grab something remembering that I was about to run out at home, but not remembering I thought the same thing a week earlier. I get home to discover I have enough dishwasher rinse aid to last a long, long time.

I was playing my Talladega during one of the HFC jams a few years back when one of our esteemed out-of-town members, who shall remain nameless for now, approached me, complimented me on the guitar, and asked me where I got it.  "I bought from you a few years ago!" I exclaimed.  "You showed up that one time with this one and a trans black one."  He totally didn't remember, even after being prompted.

This is an old chestnut worth repeating if someone here has the full story.

Yep! I remember that as well. Can't remember the lucky bastardo, but I remember the story the same way.

This happened to me in as well - in your basement, coincidentally.
@hikarateboy had brought a lovely wraptail Studio to the 4321 Jam I attended in 2018.  I said how sweet it looked and Ted thanked me for selling it to him.
I had no recollection of it, and it wasn't until I got back home and went through my photos and emails that I remembered owning the guitar.

L-R: Me, @hikarateboy ,after taking 45 minutes to restring a guitar, and @BadgerDave speaking on an invisible cell phone.

Same guitar at my house.
Without the photos, I would have sworn he was nuts.

The HFCer was Admiral Ballsy. He did successfully return the guitar and case only to receive another case with guitar. It was an Artist Korina if I remember correctly.

This is just absolutely beautiful.  And another reason to buy really most anything from another HFC'r, because you all take such great care of your guitars-n-gear!

My assortment of bicycle parts is hopeless.  The good news is I got the Cali pretty well sorted out last night, trying 9-42s on it, it is very easy on the hands to play, and with my 'chronic inflammation' that matters. I need to try some of that Zymol someone mentioned for a cloudly spot on the finish.  I did some fret crowning on this one, quite a few were sort of 'mushroomed' over on the edges, I have some crowning files I bought from Lynn Ellsworth years ago (I remembered I had those), and it seems I did a decent job. I applaud those of you that can get a good photo of this type of finish.

I was talking with a younger cousin at a family thing just a few weeks ago, and he thanked me for giving him a Boogie Bodies strat, I had no recollection of doing that, it took a while for any recollection to return. - 20 ish years ago when he was a teenager I gave him some gear, because he loved making music with his friends but had no money for gear. I remember giving him a mexi P bass (I used to find those for $99 at pawn shops), but the boogie bodies was not easy to recall.

That was David Eidelberg and it was a Korina Artist from MF, if I call correctly?

Lightning struck twice too, because there was another case ordered that came with yet another Korina Artist inside.  I don’t recall if that was David or somebody else, but they happened back-to-back.

I think anyone who's got even a small collection of guitars stashed away should at least label the case ends with masking tape and a sharpie.

I do that on my guitars, it saves me from excavating an entire closet to find something, especially if it's a hassle to put things back (and it nearly always is).

Getting back to the OP, it's like the old saying goes: "It's always in the last place you look."  ;)

I do that, with a strip of masking tape and a sharpie, except for the cases that are obvious/unique

Hey, that looks a lot like the handwriting on the tape on Talladega case!
