I like both.  The white goes great with the purple and the black goes perfectly with the pup's switch, and knobs.

I had a checkboard pickguard on a black Phantom (90's version) - i sold the guitar to someone up here (I think) with a white pearloid guard and I'm pretty sure I threw in he checkerboard  guard in the deal.

white pearloid on purple works for me.

Hey, what if the pickguard was made up of millions of color change LED's and one of the volume controls was a volume/momentary switch so you could tap through all the suggested color combinations everyone made.
