Eli Posted March 27, 2025 Posted March 27, 2025 Definitely not affiliated. This one looks like it needs a clean up... and removal of the abominable pickguard! https://www.guitarcenter.com/Used/Hamer/Vintage-1982-STANDARD-Solid-Body-Electric-Guitar.gc
DarkHammer Posted March 27, 2025 Posted March 27, 2025 they've had it for months, it started at $5K. Condition is rough judging by headstock pics. I am sure there are other issues as well, you just can't really tell by their low res pics.
Steve Haynie Posted March 27, 2025 Posted March 27, 2025 Is anyone in Texas? A first hand account by a Hamer fan would be good.
Drew816 Posted March 27, 2025 Posted March 27, 2025 Pickguard looks recent; so what's hiding under there??
cynic Posted March 27, 2025 Posted March 27, 2025 Headstock looks like it was used to stir the coals.
kizanski Posted March 28, 2025 Posted March 28, 2025 Do we know the pickguard is not original? No pix of the back so I don't know if there's a rear control cavity or not.

bruce919 Posted March 28, 2025 Posted March 28, 2025 The wood around toggle switch is broken away. So there is a hole around the toggle switch.

There would be a "hole" around the toggle switch regardless. it does look as if there is a rear control panel, though. I wouldn't expect to see that on a guitar that was intended to have a pickguard.

The pickguard cover up the hole. The wood all around the toggle switch is broken away. It all jagged around the switch.

The whole guitar seems to have been shown absolutely no care, but I don't see any wood broken anywhere.
DarkHammer Posted March 28, 2025 Posted March 28, 2025 Do we have a member of this forum in Houston, TX area who can stop by and solve the mystery of the pickguard and backpanel? Or someone can call the store and ask an employee about what's on the back of the guitar.

The pic he posted in this thread gives a good idea of how much damage has occurred since he had it. But no mention of the pickguard.
Cboss Posted March 29, 2025 Posted March 29, 2025 If someone really wants to solve this GC internal transfers are about $20 I believe, so call the store, buy it, transfer it to your local GC, and then return it within the window if you don't like/want it

Far better to speculate and debate based on dodgy or outdated photos and second hand info. Seriously though, this IS much more entertaining than someone buying it and then reporting in.

Hey, it passes the time... A Standard with a pickguard would still have two control panels in the back for the pots and the switch, so additional photos probably wouldn't be of much help. The question is, would a Standard which originally had a pickguard have wiring channels in top for the pickup switch? Or did they drill from cavity to cavity like a Standard with no pickguard? I don't know if I've seen the guts of one with a factory pickguard.
mirrorimij Posted March 29, 2025 Posted March 29, 2025 They all were routed from the back and should have two cover plates on the back. One for the switch and one for the electronics cavity.

mirrorimij Posted March 30, 2025 Posted March 30, 2025 Actually there is…..if it came from the factory with a pickguard the depth of the routing in the wood is deeper in the switch rout to account for the thickness of the pickguard. You would have to open it up and take a measurement.
