I'm very much looking forward to it running its course and then going away.
I'm already sick of hearing about it.  And "Wednesday" as well.

I bought my tickets for the September 10th pre-release showing. I've been a fan since seeing "This is..." in the theater when I was in high school.  I've even had the privilege of seeing them live twice, which was every bit as good as the movie itself, if not better.

Looking forward to this one...

I'm with you on everything except that.

Prepare yourself for a tremendous letdown.

This has "Axle F.", "Coming 2 America", "Happy Gilmore 2", etc. written all over it:
Nothing but cameos and callbacks to a movie's magic they're trying (and failing) to recreate decades after the fact.

Thank you for helping me try to manage my expectations! “If you don’t expect too much you might not be let down.” 🤷‍♂️

The movie can not possibly be looked at as anything other than a money-grab.

If you expect anything else, especially anything of any quality or originality, you're just begging to be disappointed.

Probably like a Cheech and Chong movie.  You just want more of the same from "Up in Smoke" and they give it to you.  Not necessarily ground breaking or even in the same league as the original, but mildly entertaining.

My son warned me.  He said he laughed about four times.  I need more than that.  I don't have that much time to waste (Kizanski is wondering if I'm dying and he'll get his Baker back)!!!!

I love all the Christopher Guest comedies but the thing is… Spinal Tap Ii. they’re just so disturbingly old.    I’m not sure I can deal…

As are the rockers they are making fun of, which is the beauty of the thing.

I'm not sure I've ever seen the original.

Far from the most iconic scene, but this one--specifically the look on band manager Ian Faith's face after Bobbi Flekman says "money talks and bullshit walks"--may be my favorite. Starts around 3:10.

The original was another of the hundreds of examples of the world getting much larger when I went to college. This was a regular in the fraternity house VCR.

Saw them live at the Starwood in Nashville on the Break Like the Wind tour in 1992 - Bela Flek jammed with them on "Break Like the Wind." Surreal.

The best part was after it was over Derek Smalls reaches into his spandex and pulls out the cucumber, unwraps it and motions to the crowd. Seeing what was about to happen, the crowd parted like the Red Sea as he tossed it into the seats. 🤣

Priceless facial expression.

I'll see it and judge it then.  It's kind of the thing nowadays though.  People clamor for a sequel and many love the callbacks/easter eggs etc., but for me if it doesn't work in the story, they shouldn't do it.    The Star Wars sequels were a great example of that.  Look, it's the Millennium Falcon, look, it's C-3PO, holy cow, this other character says she has Luke's lightsaber and shows it.

The Happy Gilmore thing I knew wouldn't be anything since there was no theatrical release.  Yeah, Netflix and all, but that just says to me no confidence in it.  And, maybe unpopular opinion, but I've never thought Sandler could carry a movie.   2-3 minutes on a sketch with one dimension/gimmick, sure, but a couple of hours is something else.
