Very cool looking guitar. Never played one myself, but upon reading up on them in this forum and elsewhere over the years I’m led to believe their looks aren’t matched by their playability, unless you happen to be 6’4” or above with long arms. 
That being said, this one looks so nice I’m tempted to roll the dice.

Atomic is my all-time favorite shop, and the gang there is the best, but I still think that’s a refin and a redone serial.

I noticed that as well, or perhaps it's just a new control cover from "Frets On The Net" That's where I got mine from for my Scarab, and I believe it still had the plastic on it

I have it in hand.  It plays like a dream.  I can’t tell if it’s a refin or not.  If it is, it’s a good one.  Question though,  the serial number is just printed on and a quick lookup says possibly 2014.

Not sure where you’re seeing anything near 2014!   That’s a 1986 serial.  I’m 95+% convinced that’s a refin with a redone serial, but it’s damned cool.

They knocked off $500 and I traded a few things even up.  

That was a quick google search of the serial number….not accurate

Totally agree with Chris, that is a refin  and at least the bridge pickup was changed.  You should definitely black light the guitar to make sure no neck issues.
