Thundernotes Posted November 27, 2007 Posted November 27, 2007 And another thing: drummers and sound guys dictate volume, not guitar players. That's why a lot of guitar players end up being pulled out of the FOH mix. Whoever it is, the LOUDEST player on the stage dictates volume. Often the drummer yes, but an un-mic'd kit against your dimed Valvetech? Nah.
robbie Posted November 27, 2007 Posted November 27, 2007 And another thing: drummers and sound guys dictate volume, not guitar players. that's good humor Chris. I've known many a guitar player who has no clue how loud he/she is compared to the drummer and then the sound guy has to either tell he/she to turn down or try like hell to adjust the rest of the mix... unfortunately the second option seems more the norm... just my experience.
MCChris Posted November 27, 2007 Posted November 27, 2007 Often the drummer yes, but an un-mic'd kit against your dimed Valvetech? Nah. Ultimately it's in the ears of the player. Someone with little band experience is gonna sound more boorish thru a 12-watt amp than a more seasoned player will thru a 100-watter. that's good humor Chris. Like you've ever played knuckle-draggin', mouth-breathin', testosterone-driven music with a LOUD drummer. Young Republicans doesn't count, because you ARE the drummer.
cmatthes Posted November 27, 2007 Posted November 27, 2007 As long as it isn't PODs through PA... I think that if you preset levels (which can be done!), everybody can get along just fine no matter what amps you have there. One of the many things about the HFC Jams in New Hartford (well, Windsor Locks)that was always interesting was the huge variety in the backline. With the one exception of "Recto Guy" , I don't recall too many times that there wasn't a decent balance up there.

JohnnyThunders Posted November 27, 2007 Posted November 27, 2007 Wow this got serious fast. I was joking on melting shit!I think part of the fun at the Midwest Jams has been people bringing down their amps and having the Friday night or Saturday morning amp test we all get to try out each others cool stuff. As Chris so rightly says I need the clean headroom to play those Knopfler-esque lines. Yeah right, come guys I don't play loud I'm freaking 56 years old. I just need that headroom man to play "I wanna be your Dog" or "TV Eye". I loved it when Tom opened up that Ampeg V-4 for like 2 minutes at the last Midwest Jam on Friday night. You want to approve all sound levels for the jam that's great and the way it should be done. But seriously please I wanna open it up for just like two minutes and melt some shit.
Thundernotes Posted November 27, 2007 Posted November 27, 2007 Be considerate to others, we all there to have a good time, don't be the guy who spoils it for the rest of the group. Yeah, Chris!
cmatthes Posted November 27, 2007 Posted November 27, 2007 Bringing a Thunderbolt should be required.
elduave Posted November 27, 2007 Posted November 27, 2007 Bringing a Thunderbolt should be required. It should be a rule!

elduave Posted November 27, 2007 Posted November 27, 2007 IDK, I thought he made do alright! \m/ \m/ That was a fun time, bro. I only wish I had the steam to have kept partying at the hotel w/MCC, Thunders and Butcher!
DavidE Posted November 27, 2007 Posted November 27, 2007 There is only really one thing to remember to this whole deal. Be considerate to others, we all there to have a good time, don’t be the guy who spoils it for the rest of the group. Oh well, I was really thinking about making the trip until I saw this. Mapquest says 4 hrs, 2 min. for me. I just put it on my calendar. I have a gig the night before, so a Saturday morning drive will be tough. I emailed my singer to block off that date so he doesn't book a gig and I also told him to come with me. I could bring the Kim Keller McIntyre bassman head from the HFC jams along with anything from a Naylor to a Switchblade to a Vintage Fender or a vintage Marshall or a Bogner Shiva.
BTMN Posted November 27, 2007 Posted November 27, 2007 DavidE, I'll be coming to Columbus to visit family and make the trip over there. I'm gonna try to get to Columbus on Friday morning the 26th. Long way off but that is the temporary plan. Come back to Florida Tuesday afternoon or Monday evening.
