Yeah, no $h!t...

I think they screwed up, that it would have been better to cover the repair with a close match and refinish it something similar to the original.

Would have been a piece of cake for bcrgreg!

They paid $700 for THAT finish?!!

Yikes.

Pretty close to my white Mahog 4-digit Std (#0703) though.

Cool Looking guitar. But be sure and ask your questions on this one before putting your bids in!!!! I believe it was previously owned by an HFC'er here. He may chime in.

I'm going to watch this one because I think it could be a cool guitar fixed up. Ya gotta ask why paint a four digit zebra.

What did they do? Paint over the binding? It's hard to tell, but it looks like the top edges are rounded off.

Also, I didn't think they were stamping serial #s back in the early '80s.

They stamped the 4 digit serial numbers.

I think it looks kick-ass. The zebra pattern looks better than the original factory ones, IMO. Not that

I'd be interested in buying it, but it's a nice looking piece.

ditto. I'd hit it

Has any one asked a question of the seller and got an answer? I've sent two and a friend sent one as well with not word back yet.

Well, a factory Kahler is still a Kahler.

Gotta at least give the guy props for pitching that POS into the trash.

not to start a flame war or anything, but I don't get why anyone would get upset at the guy for having the guitar modded by what sounds like a pro luthier. Not everyone is a guitar collector, some people actually play them and enjoy personalizing/improving them to their own tastes...resale value be damned. From the pictures anyway it looks like everything was well thought out and done well...not a hack job like some things you see on ebay. Mind you this is just my opinion, but I think it's kind of cool seeing a well thought out and executed Hamer modification like this guy had done. But then again I really dig the crown inlays Greg put in his red duotone, or the boomerang inlays that one of the HFC'ers had done to his Mirage maple top, or the wraptail conversion Tom T had done to his Special, or the P-90's Austin had put in his Mirage I....heck the list could go on. At one time I'm sure 4 digit Standards were just regular old guitars, not collectible instruments.

Hamer factory Kahlers are often VERY well done and aren't the typical "tone suckers" that they are on most aftermarket installs. Two of the three Phantoms with Kahlers I've owned were superior guitars play and tone wise, the other one was fine, just not as good, but I dont' think that that was from the Kahler.

I had an '83 Proto with a factory Kahler as well. It sounded surprisingly good, but it still would have sounded better with just about any other bridge.

This is a blanket statement about Kahlers that I feel pretty comfortable with and would apply to just about any Kahler-equipped guitar.

Look great modified or not. It has a nice looking top on it too. To bad it wasn't done "right" but looks like it was done right. Nice Zebra Graphic.

Like a Floyd? Oh, you're kidding, right?!

So this might not be a normal question, but how about a show of hand for who's going to be bidding on this? I'm in, so who else is going to give it a go?

Nope. Totally serious. Even a Floyd would sound better.

I agree with both of these statements. I'm most likely in as well-that's a cool one and I'm thinking I HAVE to have it, just so I can put a Kahler back on it to irritate Kiz!
