zorrow Posted June 29, 2009 Posted June 29, 2009 Real gold used in paint job Talk about shielding then!
velorush Posted June 29, 2009 Posted June 29, 2009 Real gold used in paint job Talk about shielding then! Or a giant antenna! Ibanezfreak - these guys are Hamer fans, but not Hamer snobs. They even tolerate me posting a Gibson or Fender photo now and then! Love your photos, especially the desert yellow. I had friends in Dyersburg (Tennessee, just look at the news any time a tornado makes it across the Mississippi River from Arkansas - the place is a magnet) that opened an Ibanez dealership in 1987. They had to buy a truck load of those guys, desert yellow, orange, green, the Vai hibiscus and all those other wild paint jobs. Alas, I could never get comfortable with the necks and bought a Charvel instead. Always preferred the Ibanez' looks, however. I've got some old catalogs up in the attic, somewhere...
cmatthes Posted June 29, 2009 Posted June 29, 2009 I won an Ibanez RG550 autographed by Steve Vai back in the early '90s as the grand prize in a guitar competition. I actually liked it, because it was so different from anything else I was playing back then. Not better, not worse, just different. The satin finished neck was a big plus. Ended up trading it towards a custom ordered Standard soon after though.I'll have to find a copy of the article to scan - it was pretty funny...The guy who placed second had a Candy Apple Red Scarab for the obligatory Hamer content!
ibanezfreak Posted June 29, 2009 Author Posted June 29, 2009 Yeah the neons of the 80's were a big hit, so much so Ibanez reissued them and they all sold again.. Im just a big fan of guitars that have edge to it, stand out a bit, and preferrably no one else will have
chap Posted June 29, 2009 Posted June 29, 2009 I think someone should start an Ibanez love thread. Sure. Right here: http://forum.ibanez.com/ haha suppose Ibanez and Jackson fanclubs have a post your Hamer threads? Yeah the neons of the 80's were a big hit, so much so Ibanez reissued them and they all sold again.. Im just a big fan of guitars that have edge to it, stand out a bit, and preferrably no one else will have I think either THE coolest I've ever seen was front page of a guitar rag where Steve Vai was holding a swirl colored jem but the pickups and paint job looks like it's been melted. Uhm, do you have that one? BTW there was a thread on this before. Steve Vai owns a Hamer Chap, but I hear that the (Japanese) men in black will break his fingers if he's caught playing it! And while we're on the topic of Ibanez, I'm always surprised how many people play Jems on youtube. I don't know if anyone else notices this. Its likely because of the kind of videos I'm watching.
specialk Posted June 29, 2009 Posted June 29, 2009 Im just a big fan of guitars that have edge to it, stand out a bit, and preferrably no one else will have Yep, you'll fit right in here! PS... Love the blue one.

But no I dont own a Universe. Wish I did, but they are all ownd by collectors, some go for sale on 3bay, but are way over priced.... $5k and up
coolfeel Posted November 10, 2010 Posted November 10, 2010 Austin's right - absolutley no way from Hamer. Either pick up a basket case and strip it all back and start again or get someone to make you one from scratch. Hi Guys, well at looks as though Hamer will do these guitars now. I have placed an order for a Custom Chaparral Custom I don't want to give too many details, however, it took 3 months of working with Hamer to settle on the specs for this guitar. To quote Hamer "This is one nasty guitar". I will say this, if you do not think Hamer will build this guitar with the options you want - you are way off! I hope they post this guitar on the blog!

cmatthes Posted November 10, 2010 Posted November 10, 2010 Welcome, aboard Mike! Good to have you here, and I'm looking forward to seeing your guitar "hatch" over the next few months. I think a lot of the nay-sayers will be beyond surprised at what kinds of things Hamer is willing to consider these days.I mean, REALLY surprised.
Feynman Posted November 10, 2010 Posted November 10, 2010 Oh my. I can't wait to see this one. Congrats in advance.
mathman Posted November 10, 2010 Posted November 10, 2010 That's beyond awesome! too bad it's beyond my means.
coolfeel Posted November 10, 2010 Posted November 10, 2010 Thanks for the welcome guys! Because of how deep this is customized, I would be floored if it took less than 3-4 months to build. Although anyone wants it as soon as possible, this is where I sit back and let Hamer do what they do and take the right amount of time to do it. I can not tell you how excited I am about this guitar. I am not sure you will be able to call this a "shredder" when you see the finished product. It is being built for adaptability accross genre's
serial Posted November 10, 2010 Posted November 10, 2010 Awesome! Welcome aboard and I can't wait to see this one!
BlaXander Posted November 10, 2010 Posted November 10, 2010 Welcome! I'm quite curious as to what your custom will be like
svl Posted November 10, 2010 Posted November 10, 2010 Welcome! Looking forward to seeing your custom (and possibly even seeing it built via the blog).
elduave Posted November 10, 2010 Posted November 10, 2010 this is where I sit back and let Hamer do what they do and take the right amount of time to do it.I'm holdin' you to that.Glad you signed on. Don't let my post in the Jol thread get to you!LOL.Seriously, thanks to Mike and to D-Leo for the bump.
HAMERMAN Posted November 11, 2010 Posted November 11, 2010 Very cool Ibanez's. Is the neck on the RG550 from a JEM or were the pyramids and scallops added?
DarrenD Posted November 11, 2010 Posted November 11, 2010 I'm sure this one will be on the Hamer blog, and I can't wait to see it. Is this one going to be a 24.75 or 25.5?
coolfeel Posted November 11, 2010 Posted November 11, 2010 I'm sure this one will be on the Hamer blog, and I can't wait to see it. Is this one going to be a 24.75 or 25.5?Hi guys, as much as I want to share details, I think it would be more cool to see this one unfold together. Let's say that this will be unlike any other Chaparral ever built on several different levels - but in all cool ways! It will still be a Hamer through and through.Unless El Duave wants to give you guys any nuggets (btw thanks El Duave for staying on this for me!) mum is the word.I hope Hamer decides to post this build on the blog!
cmatthes Posted November 11, 2010 Posted November 11, 2010 I'll vote for the surprise unveiling.Telling too much now is like peeking at your Xmas presents!Let's not put Santa out of work in this economy...
specialk Posted November 11, 2010 Posted November 11, 2010 I'll vote for the surprise unveiling.+1The possibilities are endless! Congrats in advance on hitting Hamer at just the right time.
