THEY ARE OUT!

Just got the call from Bro Chris' mother-in-law on my cell. The call died after a few seconds because of the hurricane-fucked-up communications system down here, but the three of them are apparently at the New Orleans Airport, after a bus evac from the Hyatt, which by the way is ATTACHED to the other natural disaster/riot zone in New Orleans called the Superdome.

Chris' family is over the hump. Out of the fucking war zone. Finally access to the water, food, whatever they need to sustain the basic needs of humans.

Don't know where next, but I suspect just outside of San Antonio at Lackland AFB by plane. With fingers crossed, they should be able to get to the commercial airport and home within 24 hours.

I cry in my keyboard as I type this. Chris, Siobhan, I'm so happy for both of you. I'm sorry it appears I won't be able to meet your stranded family after the experience we ALL shared. My wife will be home in about an hour and she's going to cry in delight too.

Jeff, that's great fucking news. Chris told me about all you've been doing and I'd like to thank you. The Matthes' have become close family friends of ours. Ariana and I have been thinking of them everyday. You're a hell of a guy.

Jeff! I look forward to hear the abridged version of what you've been up to down there. Way cool! Sounds like a really large dollop of good karma is coming your way.

These are good tidings. Thank you for your efforts. If we ever hook up, I'll buy you a beer.

AMEN!

We just got back in after a late night at the office/on the phone and running around trying to tie up loose ends here with family. It has been a long and trying last 4-5 days for all of us, and I can honestly say that Jeff's tireless efforts to help my family - people he has never met - has all of us touched beyond words.

The phone lines are a mess right now down there, have been all week, but Jeff has doggedly made calls on our behalf, been an advisor, comforting voice, advocate and friend. As stressful as the last few sleepless days & nights have been for my wife and I, it doesn't begin to compare to the hell her mother, stepfather and brother and the thousands of others in the stricken region have endured.

Jeff was one of the rare individuals this week who took the ball and ran with it when City, State and Federal Gov'ts (and a global hotel corporation) did nothing - NOTHING. Jeff and some other wonderful folks at the LA Office of Tourism helped make arrangements to have private buses (with armed security) go into deteriorating environment to help scores of desperate hotel guests/storm-stranded tourists get out of harm's way.

I cannot adequately express my thanks here, nor the thanks of my wife, Siobhan. Hopefully, we'll be doing that in person in the near future. There was actually one horrible point in the last 36 hours where both she and her mother actually felt that they would never see each other again. They've both been through a lot in their lives, and that had to be right there at the bottom. The fact that Siobhan's mom could talk to Jeff on a dying cell phone and get a little reassurrance that SOMEBODY on the ground down there was looking out for her, was a ray of hope for the entire family.

Jeff - you are the man, and really have been a friend. Although it looks like the trip we had planned to Nawlins this fall is now going to be postponed, you can bet we'll be getting together to kick back a few with the families.

** We'll call ya to let you know when they are on their way home - hopefully soon.

Jeff,

That is outstanding news! I know first hand how well he manages and works with people. His network is huge and he is just an amazing, unassuming individual. The Cajuns would give you the shirt off your back. I love those folks.

That is just outstanding. I am sure words cannot express all of the graditute that needs to come your way. It sounds like you help out a great deal of people.

Chris M.,

Great news for your family. Please keep us updated when they arrive safely home.

I wish the rest of the world worked this way but it does not.

Best wishes,

Hamerica

Another shining example of individuals stepping up to the plate when all else fails.

Jeff, ya done good - BIGTIME. Amidst the chaos, you've shown us a side of humanity we can all be proud of. All thumbs up.

Chris, I'm so glad your family is out of harms way!

JeffR is indeed a man of honour and commitment - I personally had no doubt about that and this episode is just confirms the bare fact.

We would need more of 'em in the the Power Rooms at all levels.

Chris - all I can say from my distant perspective is that I'm obviously happy for you and your family.

Many blessings to all of you.

Great news, Chris.

I believe I told you all a week ago, "...in the state of Louisiana, Jeff just happens to be The Man."

Good work, Jeff.

I knew if there was one guy that could get this done, that it would be you.
