burningyen Posted September 24, 2005 Posted September 24, 2005 I recently got messages from phoenix and DavidE, which reminded me that it's been forever since I've checked into the HFC. Hope all's well with you all. I see a bunch of new names. I also see that Hamer canceled this year's factory tour, which is a real shame. That was definitely a highlight for me the past few years. Here's a summary of this year for me: I started a new job last November, which has been going great. The Jack Devine band disbanded in March when the drummer moved to Utah. We had already started to lose momentum by last fall, so it wasn't any big shock. That pretty much ended whatever aspirations I had to "make it" in music. Over the past few months I was keeping my hands in shape playing the role of David Gilmour in a Pink Floyd cover band, but that too broke up when the bassist moved to Boston. No big loss, I was planning on looking for another originals band, anyway. Meanwhile, I've pretty much completely lost interest in guitar gear as an obsession, thank God! I have exactly the same gear line-up I had last year, and to quote The Jerk, that's all I need. With the Pink Floyd project, my '57 RI Strat has been getting the lion's share of the playing time, and my Bruno UG30 is still the perfect amp for me. Now that that project is done with, I have been breaking out the Newport every now at then and will probably dig my Junior out from under my pile of cases soon. The only other news is my other hobby, poker, really took off this year. In April I won a tournament in Atlantic City (I got 2nd in the same tournament in February), which in turn got me a free $10,000 seat at the main event of this year's World Series of Poker. Here's a link to my trip report, which will probably read like gobbledygook to non-poker players:http://www.livejournal.com/users/burningyenOne nice perk to this other hobby is that it's paid for the old one, buying Hamers! Well, that's about it. Time to start going through the messages to see what new Hamers you maniacs have dreamed up!
burningyen Posted September 24, 2005 Author Posted September 24, 2005 Oh yeah, and a few days ago I saw Brad Hamilton and Joe Perry's son hanging out in the bar across the street from my apartment. Seems like a very cool, low-key guy.
Caddie Posted September 24, 2005 Posted September 24, 2005 Hey buddy, your "indigo Duotone custom order" receives daily luv. Good to hear you are doing well.Noonan
Buzzy Fretts Posted September 24, 2005 Posted September 24, 2005 Yo Ben! Glad to hear there's life after GAS. Congrats on the Ben's_Got_Game deal. I miss the Devine gigs as an excuse to see some nice Hamers in the spotlight. Better put your bank book away before you start poking around here. There's been some fine wood coming downstream this last year.
burningyen Posted September 24, 2005 Author Posted September 24, 2005 There's been some fine wood coming downstream this last year. Oh my god, I just clicked on the Designer's Gallery! Argh!

BTMN Posted September 24, 2005 Posted September 24, 2005 "Oh yeah, and a few days ago I saw Brad Hamilton and Joe Perry's son hanging out in the bar across the street from my apartment. Seems like a very cool, low-key guy" Brad Whitford or Tom Hamilton's kid and Joe's? Hey Ben great to see you've been on board. Sounds like Life IS Good! Wish I coulda checked out The Pink Floyd Deal. I love the guitar tones in a bunch of their songs. Suprised you dont have a nice Hamer Daytona. Here is my latest Hamer G.A.S, attack result. I also had the pleasure of playing it through the Bruno to my lower left. I have to ask my friend who owns the Green Standard to my right what model the Bruno is. I thought it was cool the limited time I played through it.
burningyen Posted September 25, 2005 Author Posted September 25, 2005 Brad Whitford or Tom Hamilton's kid and Joe's? Oops, yeah, Brad Whitford! Clearly I've been away from the board too long. Nice stuff, BTW.
Stike Posted September 25, 2005 Posted September 25, 2005 Brad Hamilton? Wasn't that Judge Rienhold's character in Fast Times At Ridgemont High?
ArnieZ Posted September 25, 2005 Posted September 25, 2005 Ben,Great to hear from you and that all is well!ArnieZ
md2020 Posted September 25, 2005 Posted September 25, 2005 Enjoyed your WSOP report! Sounds like fun!Are there no rules about the extent to which someone can conceal themselves, as with the Elmo dude? I'd prefer to see how people handle both good news and bad.
mrhappy Posted September 25, 2005 Posted September 25, 2005 Hey Ben... Nice to hear from you. The poker thing looks pretty exciting! You haven't seen Alpep anywhere have ya?
burningyen Posted September 25, 2005 Author Posted September 25, 2005 You have seen Alpep anywhere have ya? Let me guess, yet another board blowup?
mrhappy Posted September 25, 2005 Posted September 25, 2005 You haven't seen Alpep anywhere have ya? Let me guess, yet another board blowup? A bit of a recent meltdown but it's chilled and all's well. I was just kidding and not tryin' to stir anything... just thought you may have seen some stuff while you were catching up. peace
BLuesBuster Posted September 25, 2005 Posted September 25, 2005 Hey Ben, welcome back. A lot of the old timers have really laid low this past year. It's good to hear from you.
silentman Posted September 26, 2005 Posted September 26, 2005 Hey Ben. Nice to hear from ya. I could use some poker tips. Here's a couple I know:You gotta know when to hold 'em,Know when to fold 'em.Know when to walk away,Know when to run.You never count your money, when you're sittin' at the table. There'll be time enough for countin',when the dealin's done.
burningyen Posted September 27, 2005 Author Posted September 27, 2005 Are there no rules about the extent to which someone can conceal themselves, as with the Elmo dude? I'd prefer to see how people handle both good news and bad. Yeah, I forget what the rules say, but the Elmo head was definitely borderline and caused some controversy. In the end, the TD's allowed it and his decision is binding.
MCChris Posted September 27, 2005 Posted September 27, 2005 Welcome back, Ben. We missed ya. I noticed on your website that you were into the poker thing, so I figured that was taking up a bunch of your time.
