What's driving this price?

From the, rather piss poor, pictures it does look to be very very clean indeed but whether that justifies what it goes for is debatable. I'd be out just for the fact that's it an '88.

My guess is it's caused by idiotic noob bidders. Check out the bids, one of the bidders has a feedback rating of ONE. <_<

Edited to add: Yeah, I've considered the 'shill' bidder scenario, but nowadays people are so cheap and tight when bidding on Ebay, odds are that the shill bidder is gonna end up winning...which kinda defeats the purpose of the shill bidder.

Wow-I feel stupid for selling the blue flamebody Custom for $800!

I mean really there are 3 day's left why would you keep upping the bid? It would be interesting to see what the auto bid is set for the current high bidder is. It's your basic Cali no boomer, bolt on neck no real bling to it.

KAAAAAABOOOOOOOM!

don't understand the logic. I have over 200 guitars among them a much touted 2013 R9. Ask me as a Hamer fan if I think any of my Studio Customs hold a candle to todays R9 and I would tell you the truth. The Hamer BLOWS away the shabby 5K Gibson.

Ask any Hamer fan if they would play an ESP MII or Jackson sls or take your pick over a Cali Bolt or not... I am guessing here... but I say Hamer again.

Why do all of you guys always bemoan the pricing of what I consider to be the best most underrated guitar made in the past 30 year + (including PRS)? Why begrudge Hamer it's well deserved Renaissance? Don't we all Love these guitars and want them to take their rightful place as AMERICAN CLASSICS? I think prices will and should rise for that to happen.

p.s. feel free to let me "have it" but I for one totally disagree with the price bashing -if you agree these are the best guitar going or at least are with the best of the best, they should command similar prices. If you let me have it, tell me why in your mind it makes sense that some of the best guitars America ever produced should sell for less than some import crap.

I don't begrudge the high price, so much as I dislike the tendency for Hamers to NOT CONSISTENTLY get those high prices. And when they do, many of us tend to be suspicious, IMO. The fact that USA Hamers have been consistently/chronically/historically undervalued in the guitar market overall doesn't help.

I for one was a Gibson snob for a decade or so. It was not until I read about how incredible Hamers were from Bob Hartman (Guitar player for Petra since the early 80s). Soon after, I went hunting for a Hamer. The first Hamer I tried, I brought on the spot unlike the hunt we can all relate to for that perfect Gibson... It's been that way since. They are less known but in a sense Hamer started the boutique business and I think some folks are starting to see that and that is driving priced to the Tom Anderson Suhr territory. It's a cool thing to see

You can't help but be aware of market pricing when you spend as much time watching used Hamers sell as many here do. When one is selling for higher than normal, we wonder why. Nothing bemoaning or begrudging in that.

I say screw Hamer taking their rightful place as an American classic if they need to sell at Gibson prices in order for that to happen.

For the record, I'll sell you every Hamer I own right now at 20% less than comparable Gibson pricing. :)

Cynic, if that includes your newly acquired Celestial Cali, I'll take it!

Probably because a lot of us here remember when you really COULD find Hamers for $350. I remember when Standard Customs went for $1000 to $1200 on ebay on a regular basis; now people see them for $2000 and scream about what a great deal it is. Don't get me wrong - they're probably worth it compared to the competition, but us ordinary guys that can't afford 200 guitars will never have one now. We all sat around for 15 years bitching that our Hamers had no resale value, but now that the rich kids have discovered them, we can't afford them anymore. It's like going to your favorite bar and finding out the hipsters have discovered it, and now the price of beer has doubled.

You did notice I said ALL my Hamers, right? I'll send you an itemized bill :)

The Cali alone would street no less than a custom finish GCS LP around $4699, or $3760 at 20% off.

Come to think of it, Jake may be on to something!!

Bob Hartman liked Hamers?

As early as I can remember, he was a Zion guy, no?

I can't find the thread but it seems like it was just about a year ago that we were all speculating as to what was going to happen to Hamer prices after FMIC closed the door.

I guess we're starting to see.

Already bought mine so I'm :):):):)

If it is NOS, where are you going to find another one? It's like a time machine back to the shed era. Besides, I don't think 1200 would get you into the Japanese - made Ibanez shredders anymore.

I keep thinking about selling of a pile of mine, but there really isn't anything else out there that is comparable in terms of quality at the prices I'd get for them.

+1, in Spades! That last sentence says it all.

Really Jake8773????

Don't throw that crap out please!

I don't have a clue what you mean Carl B.

Last time I checked America still has free speech. hmmm.... maybe not for people who disagree. Again, If you think Hamers are all that and the Bag O' Chips then why on earth should these GREAT guitars command cheap Korean or chinese made used pricing?

YES!!!! Contact him at House of Bob. He is a well known Zion guy (also great guitars) but around the very beginning of House of Bob... He had and may still... have sound clips with all the guitars in his collection. A Hamer Studio among them. He also listed the songs he recorded using it and wrote about having toured the Hamer shop. That is actually what sold me on Hamer. He loves to dish on guitars and is a really awesome guy, feel free to email him he will definitely get back to you. I don't remember the songs he recorded with the Hamer but then again it was quite a while ago!

Bob has updated the site. There is a link to clips and included among them is a sweet Mirage II. There are three short clips through three different amps. I am guessing this is a newer addition to his collection as I do not recall Bob playing this one for a recording. I do not see his old Zion Radicaster or Hamer Studio. I think it was Amber but again it was quite a while ago.
