Ting Ho Dung Posted August 19, 2014 Posted August 19, 2014 Anyone have experience with them? What would you compare them to? I like Melancon's but they don't relic well.
cmatthes Posted August 19, 2014 Posted August 19, 2014 Because they were the Gear Page "Flavor of the Month" a while back, I promptly ignored them.
Sugartune Posted August 19, 2014 Posted August 19, 2014 No clue. Thanks for introducing them. They look nice. If the price was right and they played well, it'd work for me. Which I guess applies to any guitar. Definitely no help here. Sorry!
The Shark Posted August 19, 2014 Posted August 19, 2014 I have a couple of Danocasters you can check out, if you are in town sometime soon. They are anything but the "flavor of the month" guitar. They hold their value and sell immediately, if sold used. Don't know about the LsL, but there sure are a ton of boutique Strat and Tele builders over at TGP. I think you have to look at whether they hold their value and how much they cost. D'Pergo, for instance, are completely hand-made (even the screws), but they are six grand! Danocasters are about a six month wait and under 2K. I'm having a '68 maple cap Strat made that'll show up in about four months. Dan Strain is a great guy to deal with. No BS and delivers on time. You don't save much buying used either. And that's a good thing!
Biz Prof Posted August 20, 2014 Posted August 20, 2014 Strongly recommend you research the brand on the boards at TDPRI.
serial Posted August 20, 2014 Posted August 20, 2014 Ask around here and you'll see why jackasses like 'Revelator' (what an asscrack that shyster is) should not ever be dealt with by a sensible person.Somehow, they manage to keep suckering morons on TGP.
kizanski Posted August 20, 2014 Posted August 20, 2014 Ask around here and you'll see why jackasses like 'Revelator' (what an asscrack that shyster is) should not ever be dealt with by a sensible person..Man oh man... What a fucking crackpot that guy is. Emphasis on the crack.
Sugartune Posted August 20, 2014 Posted August 20, 2014 The guitar brand, Revelator or some person? What's the relation to lsl?
cmatthes Posted August 20, 2014 Posted August 20, 2014 Dan Strain (Danocaster) is awesome. I like his stuff a lot.
serial Posted August 20, 2014 Posted August 20, 2014 The guitar brand, Revelator or some person? What's the relation to lsl?No-Kiz and I are talking about that fuckstick Eric who has 'Revelator Guitars'. Allparts bodies and necks that he used to claim he built himself. Horrible work and even worse businessperson. Avoid that clownfucktard at all costs.
burningyen Posted August 20, 2014 Posted August 20, 2014 Yeah, let's not lump reputable brands that get talked about on TGP (like LsL, Danocaster, D'Pergo, Melancon, Suhr, Grosh, Tyler, Anderson, K-Line, Lentz, Rick Kelly, Ron Kirn, DeTemple, Sadowsky, Pensa, Mario Martin, Thorn, etc. etc.) in with folks like Revelator (and Kelton Swade).
The Shark Posted August 20, 2014 Posted August 20, 2014 Here they are...Ron Ellis pickups in each. And the Gary Moore inspired slab-board...
velorush Posted August 20, 2014 Posted August 20, 2014 No idea about any of the above and almost never look at TGP unless a thread pops up in a Google search. What I do know is I played an LsL Tele at Martin Music and it was magnificent. Alive! Extremely resonant and fun to play. I would have made off with it that day but it looked like it'd been dragged behind a D9 Cat and I just can't bring myself to pay that kind of cash for something so beat up. If you dig the relic thing, give one a try. I think they do NOS, but I've not seen one of those in person.
The Shark Posted August 20, 2014 Posted August 20, 2014 Rausch, the cursive font...not working.Lack of creative vision on your part is now evident. Now, it's New Times Roman for the next year!Torturing your friends is very underrated.

gorch Posted August 20, 2014 Posted August 20, 2014 Carl Verheyen is running a signature strat with LsL for a while. Although I admire his playing very much, I thought it is quite pricey for a put together guitar the strat is.
Drendino Posted August 20, 2014 Posted August 20, 2014 LSL was on my shortlist for a Strat. I made a point to spend some time at his booth at Naam this year. My two cents, all IMHO:The guitars I played were remarkably resonant. I understand that Lance was previously a woodworker of sorts and somehow he found a recipe for resonance. Thats where it ends for me. The fit and finish was far short of a builder like Melancon. The general set-up and playability did not do it for me. They sounded pretty good, but the unplugged resonance that I heard did not translate too well while they were plugged it, which was a head scratcher for me. Not bad guitars, just not the kind of quality that Hamer players enjoy. My buddy bought a set of the Carl Verheyen Strat pups. I can honestly say that they are the worst sounding pickups I have ever heard. I like lower output vintage spec Strat pups, but these were thin, scratchy and unmusical.
Drendino Posted August 20, 2014 Posted August 20, 2014 I like Melancon's but they don't relic well. BTW, I saw something a couple of months ago where Melancon announced that he will now start offering reliced guitars. I'm not sure if he mastered the technique yet, but knowing his work (from afar) it won't be long.

I have a Mel that was owned by Greg Douglas and was on tour with him when he was with Steve Miller as well as his own gigs. Lots of really sharp chips in the finish. I had to file down the edges because they kept scratching my forearm. No long sleeves in Florida after all.

MCChris Posted August 20, 2014 Posted August 20, 2014 So, they're knockoffs of Nash knockoffs of Fenders.

I'll be glad to send it to you. Wait, aren't you in IT?
cynic Posted August 20, 2014 Posted August 20, 2014 It only showed as script for me on iOS devices, but it was crazy hard to read. All we need now is for django to reduce the size of his profile pic.

I think it was in Thorn's FS (to fund a Melancon) thread a few days ago that I commented every employee in Martin Music agreed the Melancon was easily the best Tele in the building. That happened the day I was playing the LsL (I didn't have time to play the Melancon).
