Submariner85 Posted November 29, 2005 Posted November 29, 2005 I kinda like The Darkness. I don't care for Justin's vocals but I like the guitar and I like His Sparkle Silver, Flame Inlay Les Paul. One Way Ticket to Hell.........and back is a pretty catchy name for their latest. I like it.The band itself seem fruitier than a picnic basket.
wyldbil Posted November 29, 2005 Posted November 29, 2005 Well ya'll know I am the loudest proponent for The Darkness around here. I got OWTTHAB today and am... underwhelmed. Can you say OVERPRODUCED? Seems they forgot how to RAWK somewhere along the way, and the album is teeming with OTT Queen sounds they no doubt learned how to duplicate by working with Roy Thomas Baker. Let's see- the title track is pretty good, but has too much crap dubbed in. (KILL that effin' sitar ferchrissake!)Knockers is a pretty good tune as is Bald. Hazel Eyes was SUCH a great live tune, only to have a wet blanket of production and extraneous garbage thrown into the album version. Good thing a I have a pretty good boot of the show I saw them play in 6/04, including that song. There are a couple of ubiquitous Aerosmith-y radio ballads in there, and a couple more lukewarm fairly nondescript tunes. This album may grow on me, but my initial impression listening to it while stuck in traffic for an hour on the way home is one of overall disappointment. Again, my biggest complaint is that it doesn't RAWK enough- not nearly as much as the first album and all its B-sides. After a complete play and part of another one, I took it out and put in Motorhead's singles collection CD to cleanse my palate and improve my mood. (This worked, by the way!)Great band- what happened?
princeofdarkness56 Posted November 30, 2005 Posted November 30, 2005 I had there first cd because of all of the good buzz. I thought it was horrible, the worst vocals around. Guitars were pretty good but the vocals just killed it for me.
MrGuitarguy Posted November 30, 2005 Posted November 30, 2005 Of course everyone here kne I was going to chime in on this one! In fact I almost posted this topic last night! There's some killer guitar on the new one! Not as raw as the last disc, but it still sounds like them! You can preview the album for free here: The Darkness on MySpace.com Though you can't skip around on the tracks. You have to just listen to it straight through. You gotta love the album title!
Stike Posted November 30, 2005 Posted November 30, 2005 Saw 'em on Letterman last night. Fortunatelly Justin kept his falsettos to a minimum, I'd really like 'em if it weren't for the vocals. The harmony tapping solo was SLOPPY, if yer gonna shred........
Michael_ Posted November 30, 2005 Posted November 30, 2005 i like it more than their (imo overhyped and overrated) last disc so far...
LordOfTheThighs Posted November 30, 2005 Posted November 30, 2005 The Darkness RAWKS .... get over it. I've only heard a little bit of the new one on the Darkness website. I wasn't "seized by the short hairs" like I was with their last CD. IIRC, I thought Mutt Lange was gonna produce their new one. Guess it didn't work out. Mutt seemed to have the m.o. of making great albums, only to turn great rock bands into pussy rock, once they had an audience. If OWTTHAB doesn't grow on me, I can always listen to the last one.
wyldbil Posted November 30, 2005 Posted November 30, 2005 L.O.T.T.- Thanks for saying what I was trying to, but in a more succinct fashion.PTL will always be MY Darkness album. Well, unless Darkness V3 picks up the rawk a bit.
David B Posted November 30, 2005 Posted November 30, 2005 I love The Darkness. They are different & there's a sense of humor in the way they present themselves (visually & musically). Some people don't understand that & therefore think they are ridiculous. To me, the first album is better, but the new one will grow on me more I'm sure.
Jeff R Posted November 30, 2005 Posted November 30, 2005 Great guitar tones. Fuck the rest.I'll take Jet first, quite honestly.
BCR Greg Posted November 30, 2005 Posted November 30, 2005 I love the first record. I look forward to getting the new one.Fuck Snakes.
Jason01 Posted November 30, 2005 Posted November 30, 2005 I also saw em on letterman last night. I liked the song and the vibe but as stike said, that solo was awful.
martin-uk Posted November 30, 2005 Posted November 30, 2005 To be very honest i think The Darkness are just terrible (said in my best Simon Cowell voice). Justin can't seem to TRY and sing without sounding like the little school girl that he is!!! When their first album came out i thought that it could be a great rock record, but then the woman started to scream, the yellow out of line broken teeth stuck out of his gob and the way the lighting blinded me by shining off his bald spot.MEOW.lol.In a interview justin said "the album is only 35 minute's long, but it's quality not quantity that matter's",and all that from a balding, goofy cross-dresser.DOUBLE MEOW.lol.martin.
Disturber Posted November 30, 2005 Posted November 30, 2005 I got the new album. On VINYL too. It rocks. Not as good as the first one butit's still cool and I think it will be a partystarter this winter fer sure. Now I got to get me one of those Marshall 4104'sthat Justin used on solos on the last album.Killer guitar sound.
bruce919 Posted November 30, 2005 Posted November 30, 2005 The New one is very good but it does not rock as good as the first one. I hope this band is a around for a long time. The world needs more bands like this. THE DARKNESS ROCKS!!!!
marcnorth Posted November 30, 2005 Posted November 30, 2005 Flame on , but these guys just plain old SUCK.
BCR Greg Posted November 30, 2005 Posted November 30, 2005 That's it, Marc. I'M KICKING YOUR ASS NOW!!!!!!!!!
marcnorth Posted November 30, 2005 Posted November 30, 2005 OK, but watch out because I've been in hundreds of fist fights.
Brooks Posted November 30, 2005 Posted November 30, 2005 like so many bands, i like what they're *trying* to do, i just don't like the vocals (see the "current state of metal" thread).
Hackubus Posted November 30, 2005 Posted November 30, 2005 Got a copy of it yesterday, couldn't listen to it until last night thanks to my CD drive in the office PC taking a shit but that's neither here nor there....I like it, but like all y'all (plural form of y'all) have said, it doesn't rock as hard as the other. BUT! It's 'Growing on Me' hahhahahaHazel Eyes kicks arse IMHO. Really wish they'd gotten Up Shit Creek on this one instead of that dreadful English Garden piece of shit. The lyrics to Knockers cracks me up. Hope they churn out the B sides like they did with the last record.
wgarces Posted November 30, 2005 Posted November 30, 2005 Great guitar tones. Fuck the rest.I'll take Jet first, quite honestly. What he said.
Scooter Posted November 30, 2005 Posted November 30, 2005 Damn, I'm outta the loop. During my commute to work this morning, I was pondering when the new Darkness album would come out. Gonna have to order up a copy today!
princeofdarkness56 Posted November 30, 2005 Posted November 30, 2005 Aw krap. I got a bald spot too. Does it mean I am too old to rock ??
RRHamer Posted December 1, 2005 Posted December 1, 2005 I LOVE THE DARKNESS! I think that they are one of the coolest bands that have came out in a long time.I like the new albumn, but liked the 1st better. I think that the new albumn is a good 2nd albumn. Alot of bands will have a great 1st albumn but totally blow it on their 2nd albumn. Van Halen and Motley Crue, I liked their 1st albumns but did not like anything after that. One thing I love about the Darkness is that they do not take themselves too seriously. They put on a great show. I saw them here in Austin last year. It was a great show. I hope they come back here or someplace close.
