Jakeboy Posted December 12, 2014 Posted December 12, 2014 That neck on the rubber mat really looks more like Korina than hog......no reddish brown tint......
cmatthes Posted December 12, 2014 Posted December 12, 2014 Mahogany - even the same species - can vary greatly in color. I've got some blanks and bodies that look like totally different kinds of wood, but they're all Honduran. The camera lighting can impact it too. It usually does have a reddish-brown tint, but sometimes it can even resemble a darker Alder.
Thundersteel Posted December 12, 2014 Posted December 12, 2014 Just curious--why is the binding sanded down AFTER the fingerboard is glued to the neck? Another manufacturer, which starts with H, does it BEFORE.

serial Posted December 12, 2014 Posted December 12, 2014 That was a G issue in the 70s-fingerboards were prebound, radiused and fretted then glued to necks that weren't ready. When the necks moved, you couldn't do anything to correct them.Other than bandsawing them.

Maybe that's why the other "H" comes with only a 1-year warranty! But I've never seen one with a warped/twisted neck, though.
Jakeboy Posted December 13, 2014 Posted December 13, 2014 Good point on the lighting, Chris. I have seen some alder that resembles mahogany. Alder sounds good too.

Boomerang~Junkie Posted December 14, 2014 Posted December 14, 2014 1. Get your checkbook out and be prepared to scratch one out for a chunk more than the obligatory HFC 3fidE . 2. The line has already formed on the right . . . . 3. Sit back, wait and watch the magic happen.
