ajm1966 Posted March 21, 2015 Posted March 21, 2015 http://www.ebay.com/itm/1989-USA-Hamer-Californian-Custom-Guitar-previously-owned-by-Lita-Ford-/121600934854?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item1c4ffb03c6a bit pricey
atquinn Posted March 21, 2015 Posted March 21, 2015 Pricey, but gorgeous! Except for that blue in the trem cavity. No idea why they went with that color on these finishes.-Austin
cmatthes Posted March 21, 2015 Posted March 21, 2015 Well, it was the late '80s, early '90s, but that's a cool guitar. Probably double the value, but I've always wished I had the one I traded away back! Love that finish.
mc2 Posted March 21, 2015 Posted March 21, 2015 Looks like the blue marble is really faded or the photos are off ?Since there is the blue in the TREM cavity and present in a couple of spots, it was likely the normal blue marble, no?I've had a few Hamers in this finish and they do tend to color shift, depending on how much time they spent displayed out of the case and in sunlight. Could be this one hung on a wall in a sunny room for years?Could also be why there are no shots of the back of the guitar because it might be a lot bluer that the front?
Studio Custom Posted March 21, 2015 Posted March 21, 2015 The headstock has wood exposed so is it a Csli Custom or a custom Cali?
Bennyboy-UK Posted March 21, 2015 Posted March 21, 2015 Poss both. Boomered and maple bodies in the 80s were 'Custom' designation prior to the introduction of the Elite designation. Setneck models took over the Custom naming at the same time. At least that's my understanding. So, Custom Cali Custom maybe?
cynic Posted March 21, 2015 Posted March 21, 2015 My assumption re: no photos of the back was to hide the bolt-on.
mc2 Posted March 21, 2015 Posted March 21, 2015 I don't think Jim O masked the bodies on the marble finishes. I have had several and I believe it is all hand done over the blue base coat.I think it is done with rollers, sponges and brushes, not airbrush.
jamminpete Posted March 22, 2015 Posted March 22, 2015 Interesting. That's the 2nd Lita Ford owned Hamer Cali posted this month on ebay.http://www.ebay.com/itm/LITA-FORD-039-S-PERSONAL-80-039-S-USA-HAMER-ELECTRIC-GUITAR-SIGNED-BY-LITA-/231490609438?pt=Guitar&hash=item35e5ea611e&nma=true&si=pXDdZU%252BLAS0XA5qjz8CAS6p%252B3dg%253D&orig_cvip=true&rt=nc&_trksid=p2047675.l2557How many Hamer Calis did Lita Ford own?
coolfeel Posted March 22, 2015 Posted March 22, 2015 If someone wants to play, the one Diablo has for sale will smoke this one and can be had for half the price...
LordsoftheJungle Posted March 22, 2015 Posted March 22, 2015 I guess you can't fault people for trying to cash in, but this strikes me as overreaching,,, by a lot.
mc2 Posted March 22, 2015 Posted March 22, 2015 Pricing doesn't seem all that out of line, if there were photos or a video of Lita playing it live...like there is for her other Cali or her Impact. The guitar is a looker. There must be something with her using it live somewhere. Looks like the guy at least has a pic of her holding it. If she had used this Cali in that music video instead of the dark blue one, I would say the price would be right. Nancy Wilson's Hamer went for around this price a couple years back and Lita has a better history as a guitar player....although when she and Ronni Crooks were asked to do a clinic tour together in the mid-90s for Crate Amps. Crate wanted Ronni to do most of the playing, so Lita refused
LordsoftheJungle Posted March 22, 2015 Posted March 22, 2015 they could have a made-for-TV movie about her and this exact guitar and I still wouldn't see the point in spending that amount! But I guess if it was Jeff Beck's I'd feel differently, so,,,,
DBraz Posted March 22, 2015 Posted March 22, 2015 Lovely looking guitar but not a lovely price AT ALL. but I am one of the ones that doesn't appreciate the signature. A big fan may consider it?
mc2 Posted March 23, 2015 Posted March 23, 2015 Yeah, I'm not big on autographs on guitars. Fortunately this one seems recent and can get removed.I had one on a bass that had been on there for a decade. When I removed it, there was a slight ghost image in the clear from the fade.My one Les Paul Sig Bass has Les Paul's signature scratched into the pickguard. Pickguard sigs are OK IMO, since you can swap the part off. I think I prefer rear cavity cover sigs, so they are off the front.....or better yet, INSIDE a cavity.

Could have had it at the show for 18.
devrock Posted March 23, 2015 Posted March 23, 2015 It amazes me how many people think an autograph of any artist somehow justifies a higher price. I remember a guy trying to sell a cheap Jackson import on ebay for the longest time that had a Friday the 13th graphic and signed by the cast of one of the LATER FT13th movies (like #8). He wanted like 6 grand for it. Laughable. Unless it's someone on the level of, say, John Lennon, autographs are usually worthless, IMO. Otherwise, wipe it off.
mc2 Posted March 24, 2015 Posted March 24, 2015 There is a whole separate industry of guys who by cheap guitars and get them celebrity signed (various industries) to sell to schlubs who apparently like that sort of thing.I guess, if you can't play a guitar, the next closest thing to get a thrill is to own a shiny one with famous signatures to hang on a wall to show your friends? If it's a cheap Asian Lea Paul or Strat knockoff that looks real, most people cannot tell....and I guess it looks cooler than having the same signature on a napkin.Hey, if it makes somebody happy, who am I to rain on their parade?
JustKid Posted March 25, 2015 Posted March 25, 2015 Beautiful paint job. One thing when somebody signs it, another - when it belonged to somebody. I mean, 40 years down the road nobody will even know that we existed, except may be for our relatives, if any, but Lita Ford's name will stay in music business forever and when some kid, who's gonna get it today for his 16th birthday, opens it 40 years later he will have something to seriously brag about. John Lennon's guitar will obviously always cost more, but I could care less for something that doesn't say Hamer ...or may by Gibson.
diablo175 Posted March 25, 2015 Posted March 25, 2015 Having made arrangements to take possession of Nathan's Ted Nugent-signed Cali, I find myself conflcted over whether or not to remove the sig. I can appreciate Ted's contribution to music, but not to the extent that I need his sig on my Cali. If it proves to have the requisite mojo (I mean, it does have a regular-oriented head stock and a blade style switch, after all) then I'm thinking Ted's sig needs to go.
mc2 Posted March 25, 2015 Posted March 25, 2015 A friend of mine owns the famous Rolls in most of the early Beatles films and appearances. It was Brian Epstein's and later Ringo's. No Beatle signed it though. He still seems to enjoy having it. Signatures on items owned seems a LOT more prevalent in the music biz. I wonder who the very first guy was to sign his instrument for someone? I wonder if it was even a guitar?
tobereeno Posted March 25, 2015 Posted March 25, 2015 well, if hypothetically Lita's Impact guitar showed up on eBay, it would certainly go for a LOT.but would that be because it was used in a video and has "juicy lucy" inlaid on it, or because it's the only Impact guitar in existence?
Steve Haynie Posted March 25, 2015 Posted March 25, 2015 Having made arrangements to take possession of Nathan's Ted Nugent-signed Cali, I find myself conflcited over whether or not to remove the sig. I can appreciate Ted's contribution to music, but not to the extent that I need his sig on my Cali. If it proves to have the requisite mojo (I mean, it does have a regular-oriented head stock and a blade style switch, after all) then I'm thinking Ted's sig needs to go.The closest Ted has come to Hamer was an acknowledgement of Hamer as one of the brands of top quality instruments used in the studio at the time he was making his instructional video. Mike Lutz played a Hamer bass at that time. Charlie Huhn played Hamers on stage when he was in Ted's band. Get rid of the signature on the Californian. If it was a Byrdland, Les Paul, or a PRS it would be different, but even then it would not be the same as owning one of those guitars that has belonged to someone like Ted Nugent.
