How do I snug up the jack on my Studio. Cable plug is real loose when I plug it in. Switchcraft are easy ... you just bend the tab to put more tension on the plug ... how do you do the Hamer barrel type? Thanks in advance to the masters of Hamer knowledge on this board ...

Allparts or Stewmac probably has them, under various different names. Flush mount jack, long mono threaded jack, etc. I believe switchcraft makes them.

Ok, Stewmac has them cheaper than allparts, but they also only have them in chrome. Allparts has the stereo versions in gold and black.

Conversion to a standard jack mounted to a square jackplate, like on LPs.

The barrel jacks seem to last about 20 years. If you plan to keep the guitar another 30, consider whether you want to do this again or just change to a jack plate. I opted to change the barrel jacks. Not too expensive, and not particularly hard to do, and it kept the guitar unmodified.

I had one clunky one with a loose connection, took a jewelers screwdriver and kept probing around

the inside of it, hoping to pry up some little tab or contact... might have worked because

the problem went away...

I do love the simplicity of the look. like all guitar electronics, eventually you have to replace them.

I picked up one of the stereo TRS switchcraft jacks to put in one of mine, I suspect/hope that having two contacts on the barrel of the plug will keep things snug longer. Gonna ground both of them, haven't installed it yet but will do it soon and report back.

Stew-Mac doesn't give a brand name for their part, where Allparts says theirs is made by Switchcraft. I'd go with a Switchcraft part (which is what I believe Hamer originally used) if I had to go with anything, but I think the shipping from both these parts dealers may not be cheap, IIRC. You may be able to find it cheaper somewhere else, and they might actually tell you what country it was made in while they're at it, too!

The one I got from Stewmac is a switchcraft. You can see the writing on the contact. I don't know if any other company makes them that style. They are not exactly popular.
