Yeah, I really did.  The Sustain Block itself has some hardon's initials on it, but the rest of the guitar is perfect.

14 years after I bought it (after @butcher ordered it - long story), and 10 years after I sold it, we've come full circle and it has returned.
The condition is pretty much just like I sold it, which was like new.

 

And a mistake has been erased.

Hard when someone posts a question, or sends a pm, about a guitar/amp/whatever gear, and instead of a reply the ad disapears. I will give Kiz credit for coming out straight about it. And agreeing it was a kinda dick move, but that he did it anyway. 

I was looking at this 4-digit on ebay Germany once. A guy emailed me questions about it. I replied, and also told him I had already seen it but was not going to bid, and told him "good luck". It was a nice 4-digit though and I expected it to go high. When it was an hour left on the auction I checked on it, the bids where like half of what it was worth. I was working by the computer and left that page open, checking it again in the last 10 minutes. I think there were no more bids, or one slightly over. I just thought to myself "I can not let a 4-digit go this cheap. I can afford it at this price and I want it", so I threw in a bid late, and I won. It was not planned.  A few days later I told the guy who emailed me that I bought it. He became furious and sent me a lot of hate mails, and he posted about how bad I was here on the HFC etc. I was kinda bummed. Had he really wanted it he should have put in a higher bid in the first place, or over bid me at the end. I placed my bet and I would not have competed in a bidding match. So he had every chance in the world to buy it.
I just felt that I should tell him I bought it, even if he would think I was a dick. It felt better to be honest right away. I think that guy still hates me though, lolz. 

I remember when someone posted a question here about a rare 4-digit bass in a music store, that he was on his way back to buy. He had in in layaway or just had the store put it away behind the counter for him until he returned. He just wanted to ask something about it. He was like litterally on his way there as he poped the question here on the HFC. When he got there the bass was gone. Someone camen in and asked about it, knowing it was there. I don't remember the full story, but most likely someone had read about the bass here and went straight to the store and bought it. That guy was bummed. Shit happens. But no one came out here about buing that bass. That is shitty 4 real.

Not as much of a dick move as throwing someone's Supertramp cassette out the window of a moving car on the New Jersey turnpike, but a dick move nonetheless.

  I have found many valuable life skills can be learned from mafia movies.    Rule #1,  keep your mouth shut and don't

tell nobody nuthin.   followed closely by rule #2 which is don't forget rule # 1       just sayin.       .

I had a deal worked out many years ago (very early HFC days) on a black 1990 Standard bass.  Talked to the seller, we agreed on his fair (not cheap) asking price, shipping cost/method, and how he wanted to be paid.  He spent a good portion of the call talking about a rough financial blow he had been dealt and how he desperately needed to sell and raise quick cash, but I wouldn't dream of lowballing him.  He also said that he preferred a USPS Money Order for security, as this was pre-PayPal.  Done.  Everything went out to him on the opposite coast by 9am the next morning, 2-day tracked envelope.  

Two days went by...

Four days went by...

A week went by...

I called him several times that week with no response.

Finally, almost 10 days later, I get an email saying that he's sorry, but he'd be returning my money because another (unidentified) HFC'er had apparently reached out the day my payment arrived and offered him more money and he said that he "just felt weird" about the whole thing and just decided not to sell it.   Hmmm...

Maybe another 10-12 days later, my refund finally arrived, more salt in the wound, but overall, a real dick move.  Not sure when he later sold it or to whom, but it did eventually end up with another (completely different) HFC'er some years later.

I agreed to hold a Music Man Sterling I had advertised for someone who needed a few days to get his money together.  The ad has been around for a while.  Some guy called me up from the Boston Bass Company and told me that he was ready to buy for more money, and I was a jerk for giving the first guy a little time.  Eventually I met the first guy halfway between where I live and Atlanta.  We did cash for the agreed price. 

I kept my word and slept well.  It was good that things worked out, too, because usually it is the people you try to help that end up cheating you.

Clearly the seller didn't know what he was selling and undervalued the guitar. This was also back when you could clearly see who was bidding on an item.

Your buddy, AnDy, not wanting @HamStd to snatch it up, bid the minimum amount, which removed the BIN option, and assured that the auction would go the distance and get bid up passed the original BIN price.

Talk about your dick moves.  That was the standard by which all others are measured.

That was 100 years ago. I was pretty new here and didn't know about Watsons or fully understand why it was such a big deal. But I remember the shitstorm that followed. That was priceless.

The part that resonated with me was that AnDy was so hell bent on screwing Peter that he screwed himself. He was so blinded by hate and pettiness that he missed a golden opportunity to actually profit from the situation.
He bid the minimum amount (knowing he'd get outbid), assuring Peter wouldn't get it cheap, but what he should have done was hit the Buy It Now price and then sell it to Peter at a profit.
There was no way Peter was going to let the guitar go anywhere else, so aNdy screwed himself.

My local daddy’s manager would check the inventory every morning for me. (Didn’t ask for that, he was just a cool guy who knew I loved hamers). I snagged the Elliot Easton firebird the morning that some idiot bought it and returned it   Got a little noise from Andy that it was somehow his.  Always got along with him but F that.   Shopping there twice a week for 20 years. Not yours.
