I don't like the sound of this!

I bought a used Rickenbacker 660 from the Manhattan Guitar Center and requested delivery to my local GC.  I just got the shipping notification.  It says, "Your order may arrive in multiple shipments."

Dave,    Copy the tracker and go to ups.com.    Then click on package details.      Check the weight.    It’s not a perfect method but if the weight is twenty something pounds. You’re probably ok but yes, you have to stay vigilant with gc.

Did you order a Peter Townshend reissue? It matches the Marshall cabs with the speakers caved in like the early days...

Yes. I've been looking at 660s for over a year and when I saw the custom color one I jumped on it.

Hey, is that the  all Red 660?  I was eyeing that one up for a while.

Would live to know what those necks are like.

My 660 had a .9 depth at the first fret and big shoulders. Very comfortable.

Ric 660 Specs

I had a late 90s 360 for year or so. The neck was a toothpick and my hands ain’t big. I’m sure they’re fine if you have scrawny, Tom Petty spider fingers. Sold it.

The 660/12 I own has a wonderful, 1-3/4” nut width, making chords and single notes ring out clearly, very comfy.

660s and 650s have bigger wider necks. 650s are freaking awesome. I’d love a 660/12.

The RIC arrived safe and sound in a single box.  Amazing condition - I couldn't find a scratch or mark on it.  Very surprising for an 11 year old guitar.

I immediately modified it by adding the R tailpiece and an abr-i bridge conversion.

Dang, should have jumped on that. Did you any asking or get some $$ off their asking.

Even their asking seemed fair for a custom color.

I tried.  The best they would do was free store to store delivery.

I need to take better photos.  The color is off on the ones I posted.  Rickenbacker's Ruby finish is a metallic dark red, pretty much identical to Fender's candy apple red.

That looks like a Winfield bridge, are you digging it?

Yes, it's a Winfield bridge base with a Faber Tone-Lock ABR-1 bridge.

In 1980 I was working at Ward-Brodt Music in Madison, WI.  The store was an authorized Rickenbacker (and Hamer) dealer. One of my responsibilities was to work with factory sales reps and order new stock.  I recall a discussion with the Rickenbacker rep about the four-post floating bridge.  He agreed that they were absolute garbage and he got complaints about them constantly.  At that time, he said that they had a huge inventory of the bridges and wouldn't make any changes until those were gone.  I suspect they've used them up by now, but the nostalgic aspect of the brand doesn't allow for deviations.

I highly recommend the Winfield baseplate, but not the bridge that they use.  I prefer the Faber or any other brand that locks the bridge to the posts.

I have a 1980 320 that I tried to put a Winfield bridge (ABR) on, but the spacing didn't work for that narrow neck- e string was falling off up the neck.  Had to go back to the old bridge.  But I'm using their accent trem on that guitar and it's sweet!  Congrats on the Ricky!
