cmatthes Posted June 11, 2023 Posted June 11, 2023 UPDATE! I have zero details, because Tommy is currently on tour in Europe with The Hooters, but his guitars are back in his possession. Great outcome. Thanks to everybody for helping spread the word! Long time Hamer slinger/endorser, monster player, friend of the brand as well as well as many people here Tommy Williams recently had some guitars stolen in Long Island - Including his longtime #1 stage and studio guitar, hide early 2000s Studio Custom. Please keep your eyes and ears open for these guitars! ————————————————— MISSING GUITARS - I NEED HELP! Somewhere in the last five days, two of my guitars were stolen (my #1 - a 2002 custom-made HAMER USA Studio Custom, and my 2008 GUILD F-50 Jumbo Acoustic) and I desperately want to get them back. It’s a very personal “feel” thing to me as a player, and I’ve been very attached to them for many years. I‘m spreading the word everywhere I can, and I would greatly appreciate any help. They disappeared either in Huntington, NY, or Great Neck, NY - or somewhere in between. If they can be returned, there will be NO QUESTIONS ASKED, and I’ll do whatever I can to make it worth your while. The specs are as follows: 2002 HAMER USA STUDIO CUSTOM (AKA Sunburst Archtop) BODY: Honduras Mahogany double-cutaway, cherry finish. Bookmatched flame-maple top, finished in “faded ‘59 ‘Burst” (the outer red layer is almost gone and only asserts itself under certain lighting - see photos) with prominent grain pattern (see photos). Grained ivoroid binding around top edge. NECK: Honduras Mahogany, cherry finish Rosewood fingerboard bound with grained ivoroid, Crown inlays (it’s been refretted 4 times with jumbo fretwire, which extends over the fingerboard binding - nibs removed), large bone nut (non-original - the finish on the neck does not blend into the sides of the nut, clearly visible) PEGHEAD: Unbound, 3x3 layout, Schaller chrome tuners, “HAMER USA” logo with “Tommy Williams” underneath (it’s a paint-transfer logo, unlike later models with Pearl-inlaid logo - see photos), “Studio” on truss rod cover HARDWARE: Non-original TonePros “locking” stop tailpiece with Allen locking setscrews, Schaller Tune-O-Matic bridge, non-original Schaller “Security” strap lock buttons (case includes black cloth strap with corresponding strap locks) ELECTRONICS: 2 Seymour Duncan Seth Lover PAF Humbucking pickups with chrome covers. Three-knob straight-line control layout (volume-volume-tone) with non-original barrel-shaped “speed” knobs instead of standard “bonnet” shape. Essentially, it’s a Les Paul Sunburst with two cutaways and a Flying V/Explorer three-knob layout, but much, much better. I’ve used it as my main guitar for 21 years, with The Hooters, The Hit Men, Live And Let Die, Wonderous Stories and countless other gigs and recording sessions. Jol Dantzig, Frank Untermyer and Mike Shishkov of Hamer USA Guitars met all the specs I requested when ordering it, and although I later had a backup made which is fantastic, this one has a tone and feel that is really special to me, and it’s the benchmark sound for me to dial in an amp with. It has some buckle rash on the back, and a few small finish chips - one on the neck at the point where the cherry meets the fingerboard binding (around the 7th-10th fret area), and one in the maple top, on the upper cutaway. 2008 GUILD F-50 Jumbo Acoustic BODY: Jumbo, no cutaway (similar to a Gibson J-200), Maple sides and back, spruce top, white binding on top and back, Fishman pickup system (blend and volume controls inside sound hole on bass side) NECK: Maple with white binding, ebony fingerboard with pearl inlays, refretted over binding, 3x3 peghead, Waverly open-back tuners, medium-heavy strings, medium action (tough) Anyone with any information can contact me via FB Messenger or email (mail@tommywilliams.net). I just want to get them back, I don’t need to nail anybody. Again, no questions asked, and I’ll be forever grateful. Thanks everybody!

Biz Prof Posted June 11, 2023 Posted June 11, 2023 There's a special place in hell for cretins who steal working musicians' gear.
alantig Posted June 11, 2023 Posted June 11, 2023 Going to post this info on another board where I know at least one LI member.
hamerhead Posted June 11, 2023 Posted June 11, 2023 Thieves suck. I hope he finds both guitars and the shitbag who took them. Losing your #1 would be devastating.

Steve Haynie Posted June 11, 2023 Posted June 11, 2023 Thankfully the name on the headstock will make it easier to identify the Hamer.
Disturber Posted June 12, 2023 Posted June 12, 2023 I put it up on Instagram as well. Hope he gets them back. Fxckn thieves.
hamerhead Posted June 18, 2023 Posted June 18, 2023 It is truly amazing that he got them back. Wow. What a great ending.
DaveH Posted June 18, 2023 Posted June 18, 2023 Awesome! 20 years ago this most likely would not have been possible.
kizanski Posted June 18, 2023 Posted June 18, 2023 Great news about a great guy. Thanks for the update, Chris.
