Very true. I’d add a Schaller FR 12r/16r nut/bridge and full-sized pick guard to cover that other nonsense.

What’s up with the massive price drop on these?  That’s a screaming deal/very significant reduction in sale price. Makes me wonder what’s the catch…. 🤔

I imagine because Frankie is a pretty hideous guitar sans the stripes. Why would you want a clapped out super strat?

Perhaps they were just overpriced to begin with.

I know it's unpopular because it's EVH, but I always hated the cut up pickguard and the switch screwed in the middle pickup slot.

I know, you have to wonder what combination of alcohol and drugs made that seem like a cool idea..

I definitely don't like it out of context.

Supposedly, it is functional on these if you wire it up.

Being a broke kid who was more about performance than looks, which I respect in a way.

I had a 67 Malibu in high school, and one of my Dad's friends, a loadmaster at the local air guard, built the engine. The carburetor linkage was all paperclips, but the guy was like an idiot savant mechanical engineer. He was generally bad at life, but he understood how to build stuff and could do the math. In his mind, he worked out the tensile strength of those paperclips, and figured they were as good as any part he could have ordered. Looked cheap, but it never failed and saved some money.

I imagine EVH had the same approach, sans the math.

Yeah, but the red was later.  The guitar actually looked better as white with black stripes.  This was a downgrade, imo.

Honestly, regardless of color that seems like a great foundation for a Floyded Strat.
Throw a beat up full size Strat pickguard on there and you're all set.

Might be price drops because that guitar is so associated with a moment in time, and that moment is now a memory only for people with AARP cards. I'm the age group that remembers the impact of Eruption, but the number of people who want a very distinctive and objectively ugly guitar from 45 years ago is dwindling.

It's like if you were trying to sell Woody Herman signature model clarinets in 1990. The target demographic are more worried about the RMDs from their 401(k)s and Medicare than rockin' like Eddie.

While I totally agree with you (and take offense to the Eruption point), that has never stopped Fender, Gibson and the like from over-pricing objectively ugly "signature" models from artists we've never heard of.

It could just be a case of them having too fucking many of them clogging up their warehouses.
If I were still playing I would snatch one up, drop the EVH logo (and replace it with a FACKYO-based custom logo), throw on a relic'd pickguard and... well... leave it in the case like the rest of the guitars I've owned.
But I would be a good starting point for a project/time waster.

That is a cool story about the car, definitely love those natural engineers!

I guess it's kind of California steampunk, the non-wired up 5-way switch screwed in horizontally

Hm...Decided to place an order for a white one. Original concept is pretty ugly to my taste, but,  like Kiz said, I'm gonna slap one of the loaded pickguards on it ( and I have a few of them), see how it goes and if it pleases the eye...it'll go back to ( as was said before) where the other guitars rest. Just yesterday I was eyeballing beat up and molested white EJ Strat. I guess this one will do for now.

Yup, they simply built too many and they aren't selling as fast as they had hoped

I keep coming back to look at this and genuinely tempted.

The only thing that gives me pause is the basswood body. Well, that and the Floyd Rose. And the thin neck, and the relicing. Other than that, I'm really teetering on the brink.

🙃

But seriously, I do have three sets of unused Strat and Strat-adjacent (the TV Jones Classics out of the Stretschocaster experiment) pickups not in use. That Gilmour set could be fun in that.

Interestingly, there are 44 Used ones on Reverb right now, the cheapest of which is listed for $899.99

Yup - was thinking the same as Kiz (except for the Fackyo logo - that would be a nice touch - I was just thinking of sanding off the logo...)

But, the basswood body is a deal breaker.

I've only had 2, so I may just be uneducated on it. One was a shredder with active pickups. Under high gain it was a monster, but not as versatile sound wise, especially clean. (Likely more the pups in that case)  That guitar sounded better with scooped mids than it did with a more classic rock setup (and I'm much more CR these days...)

The other had SD PAF-ish pups in it. It seemed to lack attack and didn't have much bottom end. Maybe it was just a bad example?

I love the light weight, but it is a soft wood. Given this guitar is relic'd anyways, the softness is probably not a big deal.

Crap. You might be talking me into this one...  : )
