diablo175 Posted February 15, 2025 Posted February 15, 2025 Didn't catch it it IMAX but did see it on the big screen and I was very satisfied. To a rock and history fan like me (who also happens to have adored Zeppelin in the day) it was a damn good flick; very informative and MASSIVELY inspirational. So much so that I had a hard time sitting through the last hour as I wanted to go home and pick up my guitar. Kept thinking how fortunate musicians were back then in terms of the burgeoning music scene. Sure, the equipment was a bit more primitive but damn, what a time to be alive and making music. So much uncharted territory then- plenty of opportunity to be trail blazers and innovators. 7 Quote

I wanted so badly to tell the GF I was going to go back to my place for the night specifically for this reason. The last bit of the movie, all I could think of was getting back home to plug a Les Paul into one of these Plexi-style amps I have. 6 Quote

Better yet, the GF, who isn't a Zeppelin fan at all, really enjoyed it as well. I think that speaks well for it working even if you aren't a Zeppelin nut. Anyone who appreciates musicianship, a good story, and a good tune will dig it I think. She was still asking me questions about this and that this morning, which I thought was pretty cool. There wasn't anything about drugs or groupies really, and you could tell all three guys were genuinely emotional as they looked back on that period. The "Whole Lotta Love" sequence made it worth seeing in an IMAX. It was some very much needed escapism for a couple of hours and way better than a comic book movie. I love the time period they focused on because, by avoiding the later debauchery and tragedy, they could honestly focus on the story of four really talented kids who worked really hard on something they believed in and created something special. We also agreed that, as hot as Robert Plant was, Zeppelin I and II area Jimmy Page was an impressively dreamy guy. I also got a pretty passionate argument that I was completely underrating the chiseled jaw and full lips of a young John Paul Jones. The conversations you get into on the way home when the IMAX is 75 minutes away. You kind of have to laugh. All these years later, dudes want to be them, and chicks want to be with them, lol. At least 1969 them. Well put, sir. Can't wait to see this flick. PS - nice COC avatar! 2 Quote
mathman Posted February 17, 2025 Posted February 17, 2025 Saw it today with the better half. Can't really take IMax anymore. So waited for regular theatre. Really enjoyed it. Renewed and reinvigorated my appreciation of Page and John Paul Jones. Bonham was always a giant and Plant also. The day included a trip to the Lotte Korean market for lunch which we promptly went in through the out door. 😄 It was a whole Lotte of Market! 😁 AHEMMMmm... Great movie. Cool to hear the Bonham comments from his previously unheard interview. Didn't remember how much Page was the leader and the recording studio was very interesting. I was just 9 when their first album came out. I have vivid memories of the Moon landing but I really didn't get in to Zeppelin till 1976 or so as a high school teenager. As I am sure is true for many of you. Led Zeppelin is a major influence of my life. See the movie. 3 1 Quote
Jakeboy Posted February 18, 2025 Posted February 18, 2025 I cannot wait to see this flick. Heartbreaker is a major reason I picked up a guitar in the first place. Anytime I pick up a guitar, a riff from Zep 1 or 2 is bound to make an audio appearance. 1 Quote
atomicwash Posted February 18, 2025 Posted February 18, 2025 I went Sunday night. Thanks for the suggestion! Quote
G Man Posted February 18, 2025 Posted February 18, 2025 I ignored this thread for several days as I thought it was going to be about Greta Van Fleet. 😁 4 Quote
Brooks Posted May 3, 2025 Posted May 3, 2025 (edited) I forgot to tell this story! Bought tix for the movie back in March IIRC. Reserved seats, the whole theater was shown as empty online, so I buy 2 right smack in the middle, perfect seats. We get there, empty except for 2 people right in the middle. Walk to our seats, they are in the seats right next to ours. I sit down and glance at the dude; its DEE SNIDER! Dee was rumored to have moved to our area last year. I sit there mildly freaking out, trying to convince myself not to bother him. I can't help it, after a few minutes I ask him "did you just move to Oak Ridge?". He stands up immediately and says to the woman next to him "there's no need to sit on top of each other in this empty theater" and they move to the end of the isle. I say "sorry" as they shuffle by. Jeeze. Edited May 3, 2025 by Brooks 5 1 Quote
hamerhead Posted May 3, 2025 Posted May 3, 2025 Jeez, kind of a dick move. I get wanting your privacy and all but it's not like you fanboi'd him or something. Is he somehow still relevant? 1 2 Quote
Brooks Posted May 4, 2025 Posted May 4, 2025 (edited) Just heard this morning he is going to be on the local news Wednesday 6am to talk about why he moved here. Wish I could call in! Anyway, the Zep movie was very cool, maybe a little long. While I personally think Zep is maybe the greatest of all time, I am reminded that I find a lot of Plants live adlibs (oh baby, cmon cmon) tiresome. Im nitpicking, his studio work is sublime. I agree that the movie started to push into glance at watch-territory. But that may be because I had brought my wife and she's a lukewarm Zep fan at best. Also have to grudgingly agree that they may be my GOAT. Plant's ad libs are definitely a defining part of his musical identity/style and yes, they were a bit overused live. However, even though Zep holds the lofty position amongst the pantheon of rock's greatest, I don't listen to their live material very often so, his ad libbing isn't terribly irksome. 1 Quote
velorush Posted June 9, 2025 Posted June 9, 2025 Got around to starting this over the weekend (I lack around 20 minutes). Random thoughts: I have thoroughly enjoyed everything so far. The amazing thing for me is that, since Page was so established at the time there's video/photographic footage of the entire genesis. What other band has such? I mean, the first concerts in Scandanavia? The other point that struck me was how humble everyone seems about the whole thing and how complementary they are of each other - like mature adults. The audio from the unearthed Bonham interview was interesting and edited in well, allowing the other members to respond and expand. I think the most significant thing I've learned so far is how this was a Page thing from the beginning - his vision and his execution. I didn't understand that. 4 Quote

I also remember really not liking some of his studio adlibs when I was first getting into Led Zeppelin. That "yay-uh...naw...yay-uh...naw..." part at the end of Hey Hey What Can I Do still grates on me. 😆 On 6/7/2025 at 8:38 PM, hamerhead said: Now on Netflix. Yep, watched it yesterday and I'm sure I'll watch it again at some point. Really well done and I liked the vibe of it. It was pretty upbeat and you get the feeling they all know how lucky they were to find each other, and that they had real respect for each other's abilities. If you watch it, you'll catch what I mean. I hope they do follow-ups to it. 5 Quote
