BadgerDave Posted March 25, 2025 Posted March 25, 2025 Oops I've done it again. 2000 Hamer Korina Artist I stripped all of the chrome/nickel hardware and replaced it with gold, added Lollar (stock and +5% wind) pickups with padauk wood covers and just to piss off @kizanski and @MCChris, a set of 1940s vintage radio knobs.
tbonesullivan Posted March 25, 2025 Posted March 25, 2025 Oh hell no! It can't be a real Hamer without three top hat knobs, one of which is cracked. Honestly though, looks pretty snazzy. I need to have numbered knobs though, not that I actually USE the knobs.
Feynman Posted March 25, 2025 Posted March 25, 2025 I am surprised to find that I don't dislike it as much as I would have expected. I do dislike it though.
hamerhead Posted March 25, 2025 Posted March 25, 2025 Dammit, Dave! When you say 'butchery' I expect a missing horn or gaping holes. That's not butchery. It's just ugly.

That’s what I call boutique.
BadgerDave Posted March 25, 2025 Author Posted March 25, 2025 To be honest, I kinda hate the wood pickup covers. I was hoping to use one of these sets instead. I bought them on Reverb in December, but they were never delivered. The seller is in California and went completely silent after the sale. The Reverb listing noted that they were the last ones he would ever make. It's eerie because he was in one of the big fire zones.

I like it except for the color of the wood P/U covers and the Toggle. I "wood" have stained them to match the knobs, and used a brown P/U selector knob.

It's your guitar, Dave! You did nothing to change the fact that it's a Hamer first and foremost. I say ROCK IT! Just don't throw away the original stuff! LOL.
beezerboy Posted March 31, 2025 Posted March 31, 2025 actually.. I like the knobs. its the wood covers... they just don't match on that one. too red. give ya meh+ but kudos for the idea and execution. make them covers out of ebony for the win or mebby them fungus blob petri dish lookin fuckers... that might work, dunno... have to see it
BTMN Posted March 31, 2025 Posted March 31, 2025 Suppose this thread is a representation of many opinions. I like the knobs and the pickup covers but not so much the gold. Gold and Cream covers with Amber knobs now that sounds cool.ultimately do you like it? I have seen on here through the years that you have good unique tastes in your guitars. 😎👍🏁

The entire concept was centered on finding tortoise shell (plastic not the endangered species) P-90 covers. I found the covers pictured in my earlier post on Reverb. They were described as tortoise and leopard. I think either would have worked really well with the gold hardware and antique knobs. BTW, I've had two of those knobs for a few years and have been casually watching for 1 or 2 more to pop up on eBay. A set of 3 appeared just as I was pondering buying the pickup covers. That sealed it and I ordered the covers and changed out the hardware in anticipation of delivery of the covers. Then . . . nothing. No confirmation from the seller of the pickup covers, no shipping notice, no response to my very polite inquiries. Proto Guitars - Petaluma CA So, I tried the wood covers. They look awful IMO. I'm still looking for a set of tortoise covers, or even brown plastic. Proto appears to have been the only source.
Hbom Posted April 1, 2025 Posted April 1, 2025 The gold is ok, if that's what you like. The knobs are pretty cool. I see what happened with the pickups and I agree that what they called tortoise, ain't! I think plain old cream would help until you find something suitable. THAT GUITAR IS BEAUTIFUL!! With or without the changes.
