LucSulla Posted May 5, 2025 Posted May 5, 2025 I'll say two nice things. I think that guitarist is doing the Eddie thing better than Satch. Don't get me wrong - I love Satch. I gave guitar another chance in 8th grade after quitting in 6th grade all because of "The Forgotten Part II." But Al Estrada is really nailing that whole thing better. Given what a terrible singer Roth is, I think he has picked pretty much the only approach to having a puncher's chance of not ruining the show with his voice. I think it's pretty creative. Probably not enough so to put money down to see it, but it's better than him going it alone.

hamerhead Posted May 6, 2025 Posted May 6, 2025 The very first time I heard Van Halen I said, "Great band. They really need a singer, though." I loved DLR's 20-something's swagger back then. It was fun to watch. He wrote perfect lyrics for the time and the band, and was more quotable than anyone out there. We listened constantly. Given his vocal limitations, it worked amazingly well. Back then. Now it's just weird and creepy.

DaveL Posted May 6, 2025 Posted May 6, 2025 They did a good job with the back up singers… It really frees him up to go “yowwww”!

kizanski Posted May 6, 2025 Posted May 6, 2025 I finally tried to watch this. I'm embarrassed for him. It's like he took a heavy blow to the head and now doesn't know what year it is.

If you read Ted Templeman's autobiography (highly recommended!) you'll see he said exactly the same thing. That, and thinking Sammy Hagar (he'd produced the first Montrose album five years prior) might be a great replacement.

Maybe I'm in the minority, but I really enjoyed "Eat 'Em and Smile." Not as big a fan of the later efforts.

Jakeboy Posted May 7, 2025 Posted May 7, 2025 Listened to some last night and was not impressed. Good guitarist, though. He has a bit of the EVH vibe, though maybe not the swing. I am also surprised there is nothing from Eat ‘Em and Smile. That was a rockin’ album.
