I dunno man, my radio station plays nothing but rock and it's extremely popular... you would think, that the rock generation is still alive and representing~ 🤘😝🤘

Probably due to Pop and Country having more '80s Rock in them. Strip away them godawful twangy vocals and Country IS '80s/'90s Rock.

I’ve been saying that for years. Since Mutt Lange put his production on Shania Twain’s records, that’s been prevalent in country.

considering the chart is from 2010, it's likely even worse now. I bet that 15 years later share of rock music went from 4% to 2%

Two things that I have given up in the last 15 years. Soda ( I went from a 5 to 6 a day kinda guy to quitting cold turkey Oct 2011), and listening to the radio. @hamerhead is right about his statement, and good songs never go out of style. 

Jason Isbell, Los Lobos, Miles Nielsen, Backyard Tire Fire, Edward David Anderson, Larkin Poe, Chicago Farmer, so many humans out there writhing songs with depth, and delivering them with compassion, empathy, and heart. 

I tell my kids, “here is the CD Player I have 300 plus CD’s just go find an album cover that looks cool and play it”.  My 12 year olds favorite band is Cheap Trick. She made that decision on her own, and it’s not even classic CT, we spend more time listening to the post Silver Albums more than anything.

When in school, our son's class was either metal or rap. He went for the latter. But he got over that and now prefers country. When I took him to a local 
"Country" concert several years ago, it was really more of a rock show.....Girls in front of us standing on their chairs and screaming. Def not Willie.......

I take a modicum of pride in saying I came of age in the 80's because of the music. Truth be told, I consider myself lucky, growing up in the 70's and 80's as there was some epic f-ing music from both decades. 

 

ETA- I don't give a fat rat's ass what is trending in music on the radio. Don't really listen to it and I derive far too much enjoyment from rehashing the same old, tired licks and runs on guitar to give it up.

Amen to that, and you are saving yourself a lot of misery by not listening to Modern music.. I've taken to wearing earplugs when I'm forced to go to Target or some equivalent

This thread is like watching a vehicular crash in slow motion. Can't look away. A metaphor for the transition into old age. Inexorable. Ungraceful. Terrifying. But we are unable to not partake of it. It's even oddly amusing.

 

It's the vehicle we all are driving/riding in.

I agree totally. Growing up in the 60's and 70' and 80's (I'm still not grown up), I feel blessed to have grown up at the best time for music ever! Well, I'm sure there were people that said, "what about that Bach guy, great isn't he?" But, hey they didn't have Hendrix, Zep, or The Beatles! 😁 Oh, and I'm not selling all my guitars. I'm keeping the Hamer's!
