Disturber Posted May 24, 2006 Posted May 24, 2006 http://www.willcuttguitars.com/details.asp?stock_id=4769 That looks pretty classy with two zebra's!I wonder what the price would be...?
Lockbody Posted May 24, 2006 Posted May 24, 2006 I wonder if "extra beefy vintage neck carve" means its the three-piece mahogany neck instead of maple one like you'd expect on a guitar with a floyd.+1 for double zebra. I luvs me some double zebra.
Scooter Posted May 24, 2006 Posted May 24, 2006 Wow! That's the first Standard to float my boat in a LONG time!
Steve Haynie Posted May 24, 2006 Posted May 24, 2006 The picture of the back shows that the neck is likely mahogany. Add me to the list of people who would like to own that guitar.
serial Posted May 24, 2006 Posted May 24, 2006 Very cool, but the black pickup mounting rings look like ass. An easy fix though.
peedenmark7 Posted May 24, 2006 Posted May 24, 2006 too bad it has a recessed trem... it really takes away from the look of this guitar , somehow cheapens the vibe.mount it correctly...or dont install one.
MCChris Posted May 24, 2006 Posted May 24, 2006 too bad it has a recessed trem... it really takes away from the look of this guitar , somehow cheapens the vibe.mount it correctly...or dont install one. Or use a more streamlined trem like a Wonderbar.
Nuclear Wessel Posted May 24, 2006 Posted May 24, 2006 Wow! That's the first Standard to float my boat in a LONG time! Was that pun intended? That guitar takes me back to the early 80's, before graphic an sparkle finishes got popular, when guys were taking late 70's guitars with nice flame tops and putting Floyds on them. Very cool guitar.
bruce919 Posted May 24, 2006 Posted May 24, 2006 I would like that was customed ordered for/by someone & is already sold. I cold not see Willcutts ordering something like that for there stock.
MCChris Posted May 24, 2006 Posted May 24, 2006 I would like that was customed ordered for/by someone & is already sold. I cold not see Willcutts ordering something like that for there stock. I think it was originally supposed to be Kizanski's.

You're joking right? Being from the Satriani/Vai school, I'm of the opinion that a non-recessed Floyd is sacriligeous! I guess it all depends on where you're from. I wouldn't touch a guitar with a non-recessed Floyd with a 10-foot pole!! I thought something looked wrong with that guitar, but I didn't realize what it was until Serial's commend on the pup mounting rings. I think it would definitely look better if they matched the binding. And also, the headstock should be bound. Anyway, this gives me hope that someday, when I save up the thousands of dollars it will require, I'll be able to get my Watson with a Floyd -Austin
Gabe Posted May 24, 2006 Posted May 24, 2006 That looks pretty classy with two zebra's! Very cool, but the black pickup mounting rings look like ass. An easy fix though. So a Standard Custom with a tigerstripe maple top and with double zebra pickups and creme rings. Something like this one? Bought from Kilroy a couple of months ago. I added a washer ring around the pickup selector switch. Gabe

And why is that not the "Proper" way to mount a Floyd?
SteveB Posted May 24, 2006 Posted May 24, 2006 +1 wht's the point if it ain't recessed? And why is that not the "Proper" way to mount a Floyd? + moreI always hated the way non-recessed floyds look, hanging way off the top of the guitar. Recessing is the *classy* way to mount it.
Nuclear Wessel Posted May 24, 2006 Posted May 24, 2006 Actually, if the neck is joined to the body of a guitar at an angle, as it is on many set neck guitar including Hamers, why would it be necessary to recess the Floyd? The whole Floyd assembly would be like 1/2" off the front of the body as it is. That's how it is on my mid 80's short scale Chapps and SS2's. No need for a recess and I can pull back as far as I want!On the topic of guitars at Wilcutt, I went over to their site and found where you can look at all the Hamers they've sold. Some abso-freakin'-lutely amazing cool stuff there.
MCChris Posted May 24, 2006 Posted May 24, 2006 Also, the Floyd was inspired by Eddie Van Halen, whose trems were not recessed. Therefore, to recess them is a bastardization of the original concept by guys like Vai, Abbott, etc. who took a good thing too far.Actually, I don't care either way. I'm just trying to stir up some shit.
Jack C Posted May 24, 2006 Posted May 24, 2006 Recessing is the *classy* way to mount it.Classy guitars don't have Floyds.Just trying to stir some shit up with MCC.
BTMN Posted May 25, 2006 Posted May 25, 2006 Cool looking Standard. I wanna play Double Cream Standard Porn too!!!!
black magic Posted May 25, 2006 Posted May 25, 2006 I would love to own that one from Willcutt`s!! I would change some things though, single humbucker, black hardware, NON-Recessed Floyd and just a volume knob, but she is still pretty as all get out!! For what it`s worth, I like Non-Recessed Floyds way better than Recessed ones, original metal styling ala Charvel-Jackson and EVH!! Jack.

If I do it's just a slight notch. I twang with style
