polara Posted August 22, 2006 Posted August 22, 2006 Just for grins, a lot of people here boast (rightly) that Hamer's a brand that you trust enough to buy sight-unseen and know you're getting a quality product. Since I work in branding, who else inspires that loyalty or confidence? Or who is second-best in terms of "I trust this company to deliver the goods."I left off Gibson and Fender as I so commonly hear people go off on how dodgy their QC is. Instead, I filled it up (alphabetically) with a few names that seem to have some following. I left out a few super-high-end (basically custom) builders and know I have forgotten your favorite so please write in!Just outta curiousity...
silentman Posted August 22, 2006 Posted August 22, 2006 +1 for Ernie Ball Music Man.Super guitars. ALWAYS superbly finished. Even their SUB line is great.-1 for those ugly bongo basses, though.
Punkavenger Posted August 22, 2006 Posted August 22, 2006 love the Jackson surfcaster I just picked upHowever it is "custom shop" so I really dont know if the quality is as high on the regular stuffHave also been looking at Anderson and Suhr pseudo strats ... some beautiful stuff there!
Nuclear Wessel Posted August 22, 2006 Posted August 22, 2006 Tough question. There are a number of other top quality guitar makers out there. I have a custom ESP and a Robin Medley, both of which are superb guitars. I don't own an EB Music Man guitar but the ones I've played were top quality.I also don't own a Zion, but if I ever get my current financial priorities out of the way, I plan to. In fact, a couple of them would be great. No, a few of them. One with S-S-S pickups, a Wilky trem and flame or quilt top, one with H-S-S, and a dual humbucker model, maybe the Phil Keaggy signature guitar. And similar to Zion, those Fender custom shop Showmasters look so nice.
Submariner85 Posted August 22, 2006 Posted August 22, 2006 Schecter guitars are outstanding. Then leaving out the Gibson's and Fenders:JacksonCharvelESPin that order
pesocaster Posted August 22, 2006 Posted August 22, 2006 my "other guitars" are Fenders .... but they were meticulously hand selected... as in played MANY before finding the "ones".... But if I had to get one sight unseen..... G&L .... had a Legacy years ago that was fantastic... ONLY reason I sold it was at the time I had 5 or 6 "strats"...
Andrew Posted August 22, 2006 Posted August 22, 2006 From posts I've seen, many of us like the USA Deans from the late 70s/early 80s, too.Andrew.
kurtsstuff Posted August 22, 2006 Posted August 22, 2006 I still have a couple ESP MII's from back in the day....
StylesBitchley Posted August 22, 2006 Posted August 22, 2006 G&L or Fender......I like them both but you got to play them. Most of the G&L's are fantastic but it can be a real hit or miss with Fender.
serial Posted August 22, 2006 Posted August 22, 2006 I'm really liking this one ALOT right now. Lightweight and very resonant...
SteveC Posted August 22, 2006 Posted August 22, 2006 Huber. The guitars Nick builds are insanely good.
BCR Greg Posted August 22, 2006 Posted August 22, 2006 I cannot live without my Huber and Robins, in addition to my Hamers.
tafkathundernotes Posted August 22, 2006 Posted August 22, 2006 From what's on the list, Rickenbacker.Otherwise, (for the price) - Carvin from the mid 90's on has built some great stuff. Machine made? Yes - they are, mostly. My bolt neck Carvin bass is the best playing best sounding bass I've ever had.Moving up the economic chain closer to Hamer, I'd agree with those who say Music Man. I haven't owned any, but I've played them and they sound great (basses anyway)
Guest bondedbybrick Posted August 22, 2006 Posted August 22, 2006 My USA-made Peavey's from the early 1990's are my second choice! Great quality at a bargain price, especially for American made instruments. My Generation Series3 - chambered alder body with 3/8" flames maple cap. Bill Lawrence pickups. Sweet! My Forum Plus bass, simple yet effective with a gorgeous rosewood fingerboard and slim neck.
Guest bondedbybrick Posted August 22, 2006 Posted August 22, 2006 Here's my Peavey Forum Plus bass............................
Guest pirateflynn Posted August 22, 2006 Posted August 22, 2006 For me it would be Tom Anderson. He's great at Fender style guitars.
scepter-V-lemmy Posted August 22, 2006 Posted August 22, 2006 Moser Custom Shop is my Number One, now. This Templar Scythe is my first one, got it in January. Working on getting 2 more!
unobuc Posted August 22, 2006 Posted August 22, 2006 Dean Guitars* - I have owned many and all were/are consistently quality construction fine playing gutars.Includes 2 USA's, 4 Czech made, and 1 Korean. *I have not owned any lower end or Chinese imports.
edgar_allan_poe Posted August 22, 2006 Posted August 22, 2006 Huber with Baker a close second. I have never played a guitar with the versatility of my Hubers, but nothing rocks like my Baker B1...nothing.
BLuesBuster Posted August 22, 2006 Posted August 22, 2006 Tom Anderson, no doubt. Fantastic guitars and amazing quality consistency. There's nothing that can really surpass a Tom Anderson for bolt-on guitars.
jisham Posted August 22, 2006 Posted August 22, 2006 Another vote for Tom Anderson and I'll add current Washburn USA Custom Shop Idols...love 'em. My yin/yang Washburn Rebel twins: In action this past weekend:
BCR Greg Posted August 22, 2006 Posted August 22, 2006 Jaye, you'll LOVE the Washburn USA that I am designing...
MCChris Posted August 22, 2006 Posted August 22, 2006 Fender. Always gotta have a Strat around. Orange one's a keeper; just sold the brown one.
