Who actually owns a full stack?

I currently own 3 4x12's and I'm not gigging with any of them. My PV5150s were just too good to pass up. They really sound good and are pretty light to move around. I was hoping we'd pick up an outdoor summer gig where I could take them just for the look......

I also have a Mesa Recto traditional 4x12 that I did gig with for a while until I got tired of lugging it. Well built. Taken some hits. Sounds big.

I've got a 4x10 and a 1x15 cab for my Trace (Bass) rig. I NEVER use both, although they stay in the stack formation when the head and cab aren't at a gig.

The 1x15 pretty much does the trick these days.

In my younger days I had 2 marshall 4x10 cabs that I used. Lighter and easier to move than 4x12s. IMO, 99% of gigs are mic'd up with one mic on one speaker, you don't need the overhead.

I own two Fender Tonemaster 4x12s. I'll bring one if we ever play outdoors.

I played a bass gig with a 2x10 and a 1x15 with a 450 watt amp. They took me out of the mains altogether....and we were outdoors. The big amps have gone the way of big stages in clubs - rare to see them. What good is it if you have to power soak the damned thing to get your tone and not kill people on the dance floor? Times have changed and I can't really see a use for one, even though they do sound good.

When I was gigging I aways used my Mesa Bass 400+ with Ampeg 4x10 and 1x18. It was brutal.

In smaller clubs, the sound guys would sometimes ask me to turn down because they "couldn't get me in the mix". Craig always said "F*** 'em - CRANK IT UP!" The again, he generally brought 4 Marshall cabs, even if he wasn't running them all...

I've got three 4x12 cabs, but never use more than one at a gig. Sometimes at practice I'll run two cabs for shitz n gigglez. The third 4x12 is on perma-loan to our other guitar player. Nicer places get the 1960TV cab treatment, gun 'n knife klubs get the old beat to hell, 'Peavey VTM Cab Dressed Up Like A Marshall' B cab treatment.

My Rivera Quiana sounds like GAWD thru two 4x12s, but pretty anemic when ran as a normal open back combo.

I've got a Marshall 8200 head with a 4x12 cab. Amazing sound. Very controllable. I use it all the time. That's why I own a Nissan Titan truck! We mic the cab, and I usually turn the cab toward the back wall. Helps with sound control and I still get the tone I like.

I never considered my rig as minimalist, but you can see how it "stacks" up to the rig of one band we've opened for a few times. My little Line6 Duoverb head and cab are in front of the lead player's Marshall and Peavey rig (yes, that's ONE guitar player's rig-the other guy plays the Hughes and Kettner stack on the other side of the stage). Funny thing is, this guy's a great player, but I think he sounds like $hit tonewise-really thin and for some reason, doesn't cut through worth a piss on solos. Recordings of dates we've done together make my Duoverb sound like I'm playing PAFs through a Dumble compared to his.

Did you use Luther and Jeff from Metro? We're using them a lot. My drummer's snare is SO loud that it's often not in the p.a.

Yep. Luther I remember at least; I'd probably remember Jeff if I saw him. They were using someone else when I joined but switched to Metro shortly thereafter. I'll never forget them bringing 22,000 watts to the first gig they did for us. It was an outdoor gig, and Dan's drum sound check was setting off car alarms - LOL.

I have two mismatched 4 X 12's, so they have never been stacked.

I want a full stack just to prove I can have one. It is sort of like buying a Harley-Davidson, putting 800 miles on it, and leaving it in a garage for eight years. The ultimate guy thing!

during my short guitarist history I have been through combo time (worked great), but first half stack I've got was marshall JCM600 + JCM600 4x10 cab (for gigs outside the town I've used 2x10 loaded with some vitage sounding Jensens) and there I've became sound guy's pain in the neck - used to crank the volume so loud, that he told he don't need miking  I still regret I've sold JCM600, but then I've used money raised for gettin JCM800 with 2x12 w/V30s and the story continues - if my balls ain't shaking from my amp, I don't like my sound, and sound guys in the clubs get bananas over this... I wonder what they would tell me if I had full stack of 4x12s?

On behalf of singers everywhere, I would like to offer a hearty thank you!

That's why I have two 5150 cabs. The first one was $200 and nicely beat up. When the matching one in good shape came along for about that or maybe another $50, I grabbed it just so I could have one. :-)

You're welcome. I used to be a lead singer... so I actually "get it."

Well......... back in the day I use to play two full stacks, stereo setup  in my three piece band in the 90's in the Seattle area. I have one of the four now and added another, I could stack them.... naaaaa

I used to have a pair of those '80s Peavey slant 4-12 cabs that were built like vintage Marshall cabs. When I was playing originals, I stacked the cabs, and put two 50 watt Jubilee heads on top. Later, I used them side by side, with a head on each cab for large stage outdoor gigs.

Last year, I ran across a slant Jubilee cabinet for .......$400  So, the Peaveys are gone, and I have a silver half stack for when I'm in the mood. But, that would require taking the mini van.

I'd rather drive the Mustang (My Switchblade or a Marshall head and a 2-12 fit in it) , and enjoy the ride AND the gig!

It may count as a "1 1/2 stack" to some bassists, but I use a Hartke 4 X 10 and a Hartke 2 X 10-----either or both, depending on the venue. Peavey TransTube 100-watt (guitar) head, which handles any spkr. configuration just fine.

My current bass rig is either a pair of home made 115 cabs plus a separate cab housing a horn loaded piezo mid-tweeter, or a pair of EV 115 Force i 2-way PA cabinets. Stacked, of course. I go back and forth over which cab arrangement I like better. Driving them is a Thunderfunk TFB-420.
