Gibson V90: 24 frets, 25.5 scale, mahogany/maple/ebony, Steinberger leg rest, tummy cut, factory Floyd, H/S config, vol/tone/3way w/ bridge coil splitter. All that's stock. Now it's lost the tone control and had a P90 in the neck, as well as probably the ugliest HS repair known to man. 4k? 5k? No. $200 before I destroyed the hs joint and had this repair done. At least it was a cheap repair.

I've got another that's much cleaner that's only had 1 hs repair and the neck stripped. IMHO, these are probably some of the coolest guitars they ever made, yet totally overlooked.

I remember playing a RFYellow one of those back in the early '90s at a shop in PA - the flip out leg rest was a cool innovation on that guitar!

Here is my SX SJM62 from Rondo Music. I put on a custom pickguard along with some Tiesco pickups. Once you put a lot of setup work into these cheapies, they become pretty good guitars.

Recent Yamaha Ice-o-caster. This is a re-take on an early (1960's ?) Yamaha foray into the US market. The originals are highly prized these days. This one is just effin' weird. $119 including gigbag, teensy amp, and a bunch of the usual cheapo accessories from Computer Geeks.

Leopard Skin strap for added groove-a-liciousness.

Bottom of the line Washburn Idol that I used to try out pickups. A set of Duncan Designs landed in there and the thing just kills for slide. Ballsy as hell. $109 brand new, stickers extra.

1983 Yamaha BB400S that I bought for about 70 bucks. Best bass I've ever had. Even beats that Rickenbacker I regretfully sold for 200 bucks back in the 80's.

Mahogany body, sweeeet maple neck, original pickups and hardware.

I've got something interesting to add to this thread:

Defil KOSMOS: Polish guitar based on the Gibson Moderne. Manufactured at The Lower Silesian Factory of Luthiery in Lubin (a city in western part of Poland), the brand DEFIL exists since 1896 (started as a piano production factory). Kosmos guitars were manufactured during the 80-s. It was the favourite guitar of Eastern Europe heavy metal bands during the era of Communism, often "hot-rodded" with better pickups and jumbo frets.

I've played one and it is the most impossible guitar ever. The neck is thick as a baseball bat. The frets are tiny, with sharp edges. The factory humbuckings are not wax-potted, so they feedback as hell and the sound is noisy and dirty, and at the same time they are not loud at all. This should be the crappiest guitar I've ever tried, really. However, it still looks cool to me for some reason.

Fretboard: rosewood, 21 frets (vintage small);

Here is cheap. A 70's Cort V. I worked it over with new pickups, electronics, nut, pickguard, tuners, and a strat jack mod. I gave this one to my wife's cousin when he truned 13 last year.

Those old Yamaha's are cool axes! They actually sound great and play well, too, but tend to have itty-bitty necks - often made of flame maple.

I have had a long attraction to obscure (Hagstroms and Starfield, to Czech LP copies), cheap (my first was an old Encore SG copy and dozens of cheapos have darkened my door over the years - 95% Japanese made and mostly "Lawsuit" era mid 70's stuff - those Matsu and Fuji guitars brought back fond memories) and wierd guitars ( a Roland 707 and O'Hagen Shark spring to mind here).

I like to think of myself as an equal opportunity collector/player, and see that no matter where a guitar is from, or how ugly or poorly built it may be, they all have something unique to bring to the table. Current oddballs here:

HYUNDAI big 'ol acoustical w/Ovation headstock??? All solid, sounds huge. Pawnshop rescue. It's a freakin HYUNDAI!

Ferrington (non-Kramer) Acoustic/electric w/built-in Boss harmonizer! Guitar pick shaped soundhole and inlay, polished Turquoise nut, and Ibanez Compact Effects Pedal bumper sticker - inside(why not Boss??)! Plays like a fine electric and the harmonizer is silly fun.

Some guitars have Mojo. This guitar IS Mojo. Mojo JoJo character from the "Powerpuff Girls" Cartoon Network Program done up by the Daisy Rock folks (Schecter). The dust is actual Mojo dust, or in this case Primate dander.

Future wierdness afoot. Mahogany with ebony 'boards, these were $5 each at Salvation Army. I may have to PIF these if I don't get them rolling this summer.

And of course, there's this - now housing my Roland GR pickup for added wierndness potential.

Somehow I forgot this thing. I don't even really know what model it is, but it's pretty cool. The stocker pickups sucked and I grabbed a BUNCH of these things from EZ at NAMM 3 years ago-hence the twin L500XL/R setup. Brass EVERYTHING. Just got it back from a fresh refret of the 6er with 6100s but the 12s got a few frets popping high. It actually plays and sounds great, but it's a monster, for sure. Is this Matsumoku-made?
