Punkavenger Posted June 12, 2008 Posted June 12, 2008 When I was doing a little research ... deciding whether or not to buy a Special FM, I ran across several comments along the lines of "one of my less expensive guitars, a definite keeper" "favorite guitar" etc etcTHROW DOWN your love for the FM ... pics please!
Steve Haynie Posted June 12, 2008 Posted June 12, 2008 I still want a Special FM. They have a little extra snap over the regular Special. If I had one I would keep it, too.
DaveL Posted June 12, 2008 Posted June 12, 2008 My three favorite axes are the special P-90, the FM special and the artistmahogany... The Fm special is probably the trickiest to collect, some haveamazing flame, some have very little, the necks can also vary... when youfind one with killer flame that plays/sounds great wth a nice neck, hangonto it...
Mr Fuzzy Posted June 12, 2008 Posted June 12, 2008 I have some love for my FM. Nice full size neck too. I'd like to get another in Aztek Gold. FM chillin with some family members
Zoner Posted June 12, 2008 Posted June 12, 2008 I kick myself on a regular basis for trading mine away to that devil Brooks . I violated my #1 rule about trading gear - never swap a guitar for anything other than another guitar; NEVER an amp or something similar and lacking a soul like a guitar has. I got it from fellow HFC'er Doody who drove up from Iowa to swap for a Mesa. My FM Special had a great neck, played great, looked killer, and sounded full and rich unlike almost any other guitar I have owned. I don't know why I got rid of it, especially since the piece of gear I swapped it for is also down the road ( but hey, I traded it for a Strat!). I would love to own another as they are really good guitars that are still relatively affordable considering what you get for your $$$. Here's mine (Brooks') with a couple buddies that have new homes now as well. Z
Punkavenger Posted June 12, 2008 Author Posted June 12, 2008 I'm not sure why I posted this in the wrong column but ... I'm sure it will be moved eventuallyKeep em coming!
tomteriffic Posted June 12, 2008 Posted June 12, 2008 My FM was my first Hamer (after 20 years of drooling) and spent a number of years following me around to gigs as my primary "something with humbuckers" guitar. It still is very close to the top of the list. It's still in great shape and enjoys a bit more sedate lifestyle nowadays, hanging with his buds. Oh, somebody around here has one in amber/Aztec that has a part straight/part chevron top that is just stupid.
Brooks Posted June 12, 2008 Posted June 12, 2008 zoner, *if* i ever sell your old FM (like if poe finally sells me his P90 3 holer), i *promise* that you will have 1st dibs. Z's FM is my #2. my #1 is my phatcat 3 holer, which usually has acoustic strings on it, so the FM gets used w/ my band generic hustle. i upgraded it w/ new pups and some chrome, it rawks!!
Jorge Posted June 12, 2008 Posted June 12, 2008 As a "concept", the Special FM is my favorite guitar, from any brand, ever. I have had four of those, all of them great. Since I do not like its shape cosmetically, the next-best-thing is the T.L.E., which I absolutely love.
bubs_42 Posted June 13, 2008 Posted June 13, 2008 Had a 96 in Aztec Gold, I bought it without running it buy the Queen and had to hide it for 4 months. Finally gave in and sold it. Sad day, I want one in Natural....
BlueRedWhite Posted June 15, 2008 Posted June 15, 2008 I didn't decide quickly for a Hamer Special with P90s back on ebay -the linki doesn't work-..i regret it now...I'll be looking forward for another one like that one
DaveL Posted June 15, 2008 Posted June 15, 2008 this one is long gone, but thought I'd share a shot of it... A 94 Koa FM special

Travis Posted June 16, 2008 Posted June 16, 2008 Here's a pic of my old Special FM. It's a 95 with a medium neck. It was an absolutely killer guitar and played/sounded like a beast. It was sacrificed to fund my Talladega.

Sentinel Posted June 18, 2008 Posted June 18, 2008 Had one. Liked it, but didn't agree with the heavy weight or the flat top. Sold it to fund my much sweeter Special Custom (see my avatar).

Sold it to fund my much sweeter Special Custom (see my avatar).thats a good point ... the more guitars I buy and sell the more I tend to gravitate to the lighter ones... just under 8lbs seems to be perfect. Fortunately the weight on my FM is perfect ... I should weight it just out of curiosityI like the flat top better than the archtop for some reason... just seems more rock and roll
madhatter Posted June 19, 2008 Posted June 19, 2008 Here's my two relaxing on the couch. The natural is a '96 and the burst is a '00.
