specialk Posted April 6, 2009 Posted April 6, 2009 91 Sunburst. I wanted a Les Paul but couldn't afford one with the top I wanted. Found this one and it was twice what I wanted. At the time I was into the 60's thin necks and it was awsome. Sometimes I think I'm chasing the tone that that one had. I was very close to making a bid for that one when it came up for sale. It just oozes vintage vibe. Neck too skinny to get along with? Edit: Just noticed that you have it now Scuba. Congrats! Tone report? All the tone in the world! Neck pup is perfect alone, almost jazzy but with a growl. The bridge pup screams and snarls! Really awesome with them both on. As Bubs said, That Hamer has IT.
intelligentpony Posted April 6, 2009 Posted April 6, 2009 12 string Chappie I bought in 1986...still have it: Cool guitar. First owned was a '93 Cherry Sunburst Studio. First played was my 0114 Standard the day the original owner received it back in '78.
veatch Posted April 6, 2009 Posted April 6, 2009 Then my wife got me my Artist Custom! Does your wife have a sister? Not for me, mind you - but i'm sure there are some single folks here that might be interested...
Nuclear Wessel Posted April 6, 2009 Posted April 6, 2009 It's pearl pink, not Pepto. It was one of the remaining Hamers that a local dealer had. They stopped carrying Hamer sometime in the early 90's. I got this one in '94. It wasn't my first color choice, but all they had left was this, a blue Chapp that didn't sound as good, a Blitz that did sound really good but I wasn't after an Explorer, a Sustainiac Chapp that they wanted more money for and I wasn't interested in a sustainer equipped guitar, and another Chapp with a tune o matic bridge/tailpiece, which I probably should have also picked up because I've never seen another one like it and it woulda been a blast to play, in this kinda ugly metallic lime green.
Hackubus Posted April 6, 2009 Posted April 6, 2009 Got this one from our very own HFC Bro, Bruce919. Great guitar, had to let her go this summer. I kinda miss her at times.
bubs_42 Posted April 6, 2009 Posted April 6, 2009 77 Sunburst, bought in '86 for AUD$995. The shopfront had a window on the right of the doorway with about 5 guitars on display. On the left of the doorway was a smaller display window with one guitar. I also coulda chosen from a bunch of Phantoms with sustain block trems and locking tuners. I'd still like one of those. You didn't tell me you had anything for trade!
Armitage Posted April 6, 2009 Posted April 6, 2009 I custom ordered a Standard Custom and a Archtop Custom in '95 or '96 both in '59 burst... It was a lot of money. The Standard Custom came with a yellow top... no burst... nothing... just yellow. I was heart broken and demanded it be replaced. The Archtop Custom was the opposite, it's bright orange with very little yellow in the center.
velorush Posted April 6, 2009 Posted April 6, 2009 1983 Phantom A5 1. Bought it last year because I'd always wanted (but hadn't played) one 2. Didn't like the neck very much, so 3. Tried to sell it to buy another Hamer but couldn't get a deal worked out 4. Actually started playing it now and then 5. Really like it now and play it quite often - glad it didn't sell!
Celtic_Bill Posted April 6, 2009 Posted April 6, 2009 1987 Chapparal, Pearl Blue (still have that one as well). Haven't even tried to fix the buckle rash in the back, broken in just perfect!
Special J Posted April 7, 2009 Posted April 7, 2009 '93 Special bought from Matt's Music in Middletown, CT.Center one in my avatar.
doody Posted April 7, 2009 Posted April 7, 2009 93 T-62. Sold it to E-Ilse. Also had a 93 FM and a 93 p-90 special. Don't have any of them anymore, though. My only remaining Hamer is my 3 hole Duotone and that one will never leave.
Reverend Jim Posted April 7, 2009 Posted April 7, 2009 1994 Chaparral Slammer Series 4 string Bass P/J pick-ups, tobacco sunburst. And I love it!<img src="http://www.nethideaway.com/members/Reverend_Downdraft/myslammerfull.jpg">

DEMENTED Posted April 7, 2009 Posted April 7, 2009 My first Hamer, 1996 Special FM in Aztec Gold w/ gold hardware upgrade. That was '98 or '99. No Hamers left now....oh wait, there is some ole' Triple Threat some dood let me have to noodle on...who lent me that? On another note, here is the last one I bought, second or third chambered Standard Custom made, I went to the factory (chaufered by ceeb) to pick out all the woods. A custom order that alas wasn't for me once I got it. Arm couldn't get around the upper wing comfortably. Yup, here it is....Hamer Triple Threat!
custom53 Posted April 7, 2009 Posted April 7, 2009 1981 Hamer Special. Still have it. Bought it new (or traded a Les Paul Custom for it) right after I saw Jethro Tull and Martin Barre playing a Hamer...

Celtic_Bill Posted April 8, 2009 Posted April 8, 2009 Hey Bill W,Yes! It was purchased brand-spankin' new from Mr. C's in Marlboro, yup, when Jimmy had the store downtown Main Street. I think I paid around $800.00 for it in late '87 or early '88. I remember he had a white Gibson doubleneck that I was jonesing for, and was in the market for a spare Strat-style guitar. I picked up the Chappy, plugged in to one of the Laney half-stacks Jimmy had, and that was all she wrote! He actually threw in one of those multi-colored "Hamer Rocks Hard" t-shirts, I don't think that t-shirt would fit me now.........I still visit Mr. C's when I get a free minute, but I liked his previous downtown location much better. Jeez, my Chappy is older than my daughter, who'll be starting college in the fall! Ah, memories!

Jeez, my Chappy is older than my daughter, who'll be starting college in the fall! Ah, memories!Yeah I custom ordered mine that summer ('87) I think all told it was like $900 - 950. I don't recall the Gibson...but I tried a Black SS he had there and a Red TLE. I almost went with the SS ...but I ended up ordering the Chap from Hamer, so I could get the color and the OBL. Is Jim still around? I heard he'd had some heart issues. (I actually went to school with Jim Jr...He & Nuno Bettencourt used to hang out there and teach each other VH tunes, ....ahhh the old days)
Celtic_Bill Posted April 9, 2009 Posted April 9, 2009 Bill W, Jim did have some health issues a while back, he's still alive and kicking, always shootin' the breeze with somebody in the store, his wife unfortunately, passed away in a car accident last fall. His youngest son Mike, works at the store, and I know Shaun is a session guitarist in LA. I can remember Nuno hanging out at the store, as well as everyone who was in a local band at the time.....Good to hear from someone who used to be in the "old neighborhood".
