tombo Posted March 7, 2005 Posted March 7, 2005 I was talking with Ted the other day about the HFC board. I've always felt that what the board needed was a separate category for "For Sale/For Trade" etc. (Pay It Forward, Dealer posts with new inventory pics, etc. would be welcome in this category). I just think it would be easier for players looking to buy things to be able to look on one separate board rather than wading through all the posts on the HFC.Now, I'm not advocating numerous boards for every possible subject concerning playing guitar ala The Gear Page. What works for them wouldn't necessarily work here. What I am advocating is this:The Hamer Fan Club Message BoardFor Sale/For Trade "Music Emporium" BoardThe Outer CircleAgain, I just think it would make this place a little easier to navigate and also help people looking for new/used gear or for people selling gear. Also, if any of you know of some good "disclaimers" on other boards in regards to "this board is not responsible for deals made on the board" - mail them to Ted (no need to waste space in this thread). Ted's for the extra category, but we'd like to hear your voice and opinions. Thanks.
black magic Posted March 7, 2005 Posted March 7, 2005 great idea!! Also maybe an Other Than Hamer Gear section. Jack.
Guitarseh Posted March 7, 2005 Posted March 7, 2005 Looks like I'm alone on this, but I like having those posts in the main stream. The board isn't so active that I miss them if I wait a day or so, plus I like just having to go to one place to see everything guitar related. I understand the benefits of doing it the way you are proposing, and why it would appeal to lots of folks. I'll probably survive if it's changed It's cool of you guys to take a poll. Thanks, Mark
kizanski Posted March 7, 2005 Posted March 7, 2005 I think the Gear Page took this idea way too far, but I think three or four categories would not be a bad thing.
Guest teefus2 Posted March 7, 2005 Posted March 7, 2005 I think the Gear Page took this idea way too far, but I think three or four categories would not be a bad thing. i agree with kizanski 100%.........
atquinn Posted March 7, 2005 Posted March 7, 2005 I'm for the idea, but I think it would be best to just have one category for everything; it would be better for buyers and sellers IMNSHO,-Austin
MoJohn Posted March 7, 2005 Posted March 7, 2005 I don't see where there is so much traffic that new categories need to be added. A lot of times the WTB and FS/FT posts morph into something else anyway. There's only a finite number of directly Hamer related posts that can be made, so at some point there could just be an FAQ section and everyone could just stay home.OTOH, it's not my board, so carry on.Peace,MoJohn
custom53 Posted March 7, 2005 Posted March 7, 2005 A for sale / for trade board would be very sweet...
HamerHokie Posted March 7, 2005 Posted March 7, 2005 I don't see where there is so much traffic that new categories need to be added. If I'm looking to see what gear is for sale, I don't want to have to wade through a whole board's worth of non-FS posts. I'd rather be able to see everything everyone has for sale in it's own location.Everyone else does this, we should too. I have no idea why Ted has resisted this in the past.
Buzzy Fretts Posted March 7, 2005 Posted March 7, 2005 I think it's a good idea. I also don't see a problem with folks posting a little FYI in the main section when they post something of interest in the for-sale bin. my $00.02
m chops Posted March 7, 2005 Posted March 7, 2005 Is it me, or in the poll is the "yes" in bold while "no" is not?
tafkathundernotes Posted March 7, 2005 Posted March 7, 2005 One alternative would be a little flag (post icon) for the second column on the list of postings. Similar to how a poll has a question mark there - just have a little mini "For Sale" sign.Personally, I sort of like the idea of a separate area. When you've got something to sell, it often disappears onto a second or third page of posts within hours of your listing it. Then you've got to do that annoying "bump" business just to keep it fresh.
Rockola Posted March 7, 2005 Posted March 7, 2005 I'm for it but would prefer it be a 'supporter' feature.
kurtsstuff Posted March 7, 2005 Posted March 7, 2005 Yes,Yes,Yes!! Gear whore that I am...I'm always steali....umm...buying and selling stuff!!
Michael_ Posted March 7, 2005 Posted March 7, 2005 I'm for it but would prefer it be a 'supporter' feature. As in only supporters can view, or only supporters can post? I agree with only supporters being able to post, that will keep out people who are trying to rip us off. I also agree with the new Forum idea 100%, it's just a part of the HFC growing IMO.
Mike_C Posted March 7, 2005 Posted March 7, 2005 I think it's a great idea. But like the others have said keep the number of boards down to 3 to 5. Actually just adding a F/S board and a non-hamer discussion page would be great improvements.
jerseydrew Posted March 7, 2005 Posted March 7, 2005 I agree, I think there should be a buy/sell board. I also think that you should have at least 50 posts before you could list. This way it would keep the scams to a minimum.
bbobb24 Posted March 7, 2005 Posted March 7, 2005 I agree that only supporters should be able to post, and that non-supporters can read the posts but not post themselves. I think 1 board would be enough, there's no real need to break it up the way other boards do, that's annoying to me
sw686blue Posted March 7, 2005 Posted March 7, 2005 I agree as well. Why not add a FS/FT section? I would keep it simple, unlike the Gear Page and others. Add a section for sales and another for non-Hamer stuff.Nick
Jack C Posted March 7, 2005 Posted March 7, 2005 I don't like then idea. But then again, I fear change...
Brewmaster Posted March 7, 2005 Posted March 7, 2005 All of the other boards ( LP Forum, Dean Board, Gear Page, Hamer Museum) I belong to have a For Sale/Trade area and I like it. Regardless of board traffic it is convenience issue. Mobbie runs the Hamer Museum and has multiple topic areas including a For Sale area and he doesn't have traffic issue at all.
Craig Posted March 7, 2005 Posted March 7, 2005 The only catch should be in order to post on the for sale part of the board, you should have to make a donation to the HFC. More work for Ted means become a supporter or don't use the board for your profit. My $0.02.
