zorrow Posted April 27, 2010 Posted April 27, 2010 Well guys, I think I've concluded I don't like to play this guitar that much: It does sound amazing, looks even better... but I got two big issues with it: 1- The neck is definitively too skinny for my tastes --not chunky enough, not wide enough, not freakin' big enough for me! 2- The strap button at the top of the wing shouldn't be there... This thing tends to dive forward when I strap it and I just hate it! Now, I do know I'll regret it if I ever sell it because: 1- It looks waaaay cool --doesn't it? 2- Nowadays you no longer find Hamers with boomers, a gold sustainblock and a stadium logo --well, at least not easily. 3- One of my preferred guitar heroes (Jeff Waters) used to play one very similar to this one --as superfluous as this can be, it does still matter to me. 4- The OBL pups are unique and give an amazing distorted tone. You bet this machine RAWKS like no other. 5- It gives me "snob points" here at the HFC. --but seriously, this is a white, custom 80's Vector with a pointy headstock, man! 6- I'm not in need of money as of right now. In any case, I believe 100% in the validity of the "guitars are meant to be played" motto, so I have three choices: 1- I sell it to someone here and assume the seller's regrets. 2- I move the strap button to the right place and get also used to the skinny neck. 3- I just keep it the way it is, and just use it to record some stuff from time to time. Well, that's all what I wanted to say for now. I do know some of you guys are drooling about this one and frankly, you do deserve to own it. However, I'm not convinced at all that I want to sell it. Anyway, be ensured that if I ever sell it, it will stay in the family.
paulcozby Posted April 27, 2010 Posted April 27, 2010 If you do not need the money, I say keep it, unless you never use it... I regret just about every guitar I have ever sold... And if you are still thinking about selling it, I am sure you will have ZERO problems getting rid of it here Well guys, I think I've concluded I don't like to play this guitar that much: It does sound amazing, looks even better... but I got two big issues with it: 1- The neck is definitively too skinny for my tastes --not chunky enough, not wide enough, not freakin' big enough for me! 2- The strap button at the top of the wing shouldn't be there... gtone Posted April 27, 2010 Posted April 27, 2010 It is a pretty unique and interesting ax, Ionel. I think you should keep it to maintain a healthy Hamer to Dean ratio. That, or sell it to me for the HFC standard tree-fiddy (somebody had to say it first!). After all, I have smaller hands than you and don't mind skinny necks too much...
BlueRedWhite Posted April 27, 2010 Posted April 27, 2010 I like the idea no. 2, Ionel Since your philosophy is to play all your guitars, i'm pretty sure that if this one wouldda be exactly what you wanted you wouldn't even think of selling it So change the things that prevent you from enjoying it and adapt yourself to those you can't change I can also give you option no. 4: bring it to quebec city, i'll keep it for you, i'm a chick, and my hands are even smaller than gtone's
bubs_42 Posted April 27, 2010 Posted April 27, 2010 I can't help you because I wanted that Vector before you got it and was broke when you bought it. Damn nice guitar.
cynic Posted April 27, 2010 Posted April 27, 2010 Maybe it would be happier if it were to be reunited with a certain goldtop Dean V?
serial Posted April 27, 2010 Posted April 27, 2010 If you're not playing it and there's something out there you'll play more, sell it. That's been my philosophy for the past few years. I've sold some awesome guitars that I thought I would be buried with. After my father died, I became less into accumulating and more into keeping stuff only if I was using it or unless it had great sentimental value. It's a lot more fun for me to horse-trade and to keep trying out new stuff and I'd never be able to do that if I kept them all. I've cut my stable down by half since 2003 and the only guitar I truly regret letting go was my '75 Destroyer, but the pickups squealed like a pig, so maybe I forget the stuff that I wasn't nuts about with that guitar too.
murkat Posted April 27, 2010 Posted April 27, 2010 if you like, keep it, live with it. nun more like it. if you dislike, off it, move on, get something else. if you keep, deal with the neck, place a button in the guijiana... it will balance out ..... I would
Craig S Posted April 27, 2010 Posted April 27, 2010 I just sold my 92' LP Special which I had exactly same issue. Love the sound and look...the thin taper neck wore out it's welcome...I'm with Serial... I've reduced mine down to 3... I got tired of accumulating stuff... I havn't regretted any of them yet... I play more when I'm not collect which is a big plus..
mfreyer Posted April 28, 2010 Posted April 28, 2010 Count me with Serial also. I have momentarily regretted selling guitars, but I have also regretted hanging on to some and letting other good stuff pass me by. By the time I seriously consider selling something, it has already been solidified as 'not a keeper.' If the guitar is in that position, unload it! Catharsis!
eightyfour Posted April 28, 2010 Posted April 28, 2010 It's unique at best, and if you're not even using it has the same worth as a Hoover full of dust bunnies. Dump it for something you'll paw on, life's too short to covet baggage.
Jorge Posted April 28, 2010 Posted April 28, 2010 Think about the minimun price you would be willing to let it go, offer it at that price, and no matter what happens with the sale, you'll be happy.
velorush Posted April 28, 2010 Posted April 28, 2010 Cool way of looking at things given to me by a stock broker many years ago (he was an idiot, so obviously someone else gave it to him, but I digress):Consider the [realistic] selling price. If the guitar was out there on the market at that price, would you really buy it or just think about it? If yes, then keep it! If no, what are you waiting for? Sell it!
Carl.B Posted April 28, 2010 Posted April 28, 2010 Since we are all one big Hamer family you could do what my parents use to do with me. Every summer I would get to go stay with my cousins on there dairy or hog farm for a week or two. So what I suggest you let your guitar come visit some of his cousins. My 80 special is an only child and he has no other relatives to bond with. He would love to have someone to play with. Just a thought!
gorch Posted April 28, 2010 Posted April 28, 2010 Correct me if I'm wrong. I have seen this one with the Double Ds. That were gone, so let the guitar go as well. On the other hand, I find the "guitar visits a cousin" idea quite interesting. Cousin pays for shipping and needs to make photos of himself with the guitar and frequently post in a nicely growing thread here at the HFC. Visits are time limited so the guitar keeps traveling. Play that game for a year and we all have fun.
